Fabulous
Fabulous ! Can’t fault my experience, it was clean, efficient and the staff went over and above to make my stay better.
Useless
Useless! Tried joining NHS Wales App but couldn't enter my NHS number as it's an old 6 digit one! Guess what- to find your new 10 number they tell you to go to the NHS Wales App! Argh! Means having to phone a GP to get my repeat prescription or visit a surgery and, like so many people in Mid Wales, that means a car journey. Most irritatingly of all, there was an option to tick to say I didn't know my number, but as I didn't tick it I had to start the application all over again, only to be told I needed a film of my face and legal photographic evidence of same, or a GP letter. Crazy!
The NHS wales app is absolutely useless…
The NHS wales app is absolutely useless and ineffective, there are never any appointments showing as available despite my surgery' releasing them. I have checked daily since this new app was launched. The previous MyHealth online worked perfectly.. I have to goback to dropping off paper copy of my repeat at surgery as not ally meds are listed as available and have to phone for appointments, this is a massive step backwards. why does the Welsh Assembly mess up a perfectly good system by replacing myhealthonline app with this useless one that does not work.
It doesn’t have my repeat prescriptions…
It doesn’t have my repeat prescriptions - not updated since 2024. It’s absolutely useless and ineffective. The previous MyHealth online worked very well. But this nhs wales is a joke. I’m going back to using my GP scripts, dropping off at surgery etc. why does the Welsh Assembly have to be so stupid??
NHS Wales App is not fit for purpose.
I haven't required a GP appt for 7 years. This January I developed chronic joint pain but, having no faith in the NHS, I self diagnosed my problem and decided to self medicate with painkillers in the (forlorn) hope the condition would go away of its own accord.
5 months on, with my life effectively on hold owing to the debilitating condition, I reluctantly decided a face to face GP appt was required but not as an emergency. The practice website advises patients to phone the surgery for an appt. Great, or so I thought. Got through after 20 mins to be told by the receptionist that I could only book appts through the NHS Wales app and I could only find available appts if I checked it 8 - 8.30 a.m. Also "it might be necessary to persevere" every day. Well, as I had no 'smart' devices I had to buy a Smartphone just for this purpose. Registering on the app was ok but only after a lot of palaver.
That was 6 weeks ago and I check the app every a.m 7.55-8.30. It purportedly gives a choice of: 1. three different practices 2. different doctors (only one name has ever appeared for the 3 practices) 3. choice of appts for injections, telephone or general. 4. choice of appt period eg. one day, tomorrow, this week, this month...up to 16 wks away. Great. Sounds good. Would be if there were ever any entries in any of the categories. Apparently, there are never any available appts even within the next 16 wks (?).
There would appear to be a black hole of GPs but plenty of receptionists to send patients round in circles. The system doesn't work and patients are suffering needlessly. Of course it works 100% if the intention is to prevent patients from seeing doctors altogether.
Used and abused
My Health Online Worked, Why Change It?
In Wales we have been using My Health Online, which worked well (for me) for repeat prescriptions. Now we have to register with the NHS and provide identity checks.
It would help if the NHS system worked and you are able to send a video recording. All that is displayed is a blank black/grey image that, quite clearly, will not pass any security check. (Mind you this is the NHS!).
I have spoken to the surgery who confirmed that other patients have had the same problem. As a result the repeat prescription was done through the surgery.
NHS login is a separate service you need to use to log into the NHS Wales App. So you have to log in on one system to log in onto another system.
And the NHS wonders why it is seen as a complete shambles and the cost of incompetence has to be eye-watering.
Useless
Useless
Over the last 12 months it's worked once. Every time there are vital repeat prescriptions missing from the app so end up having to phone them into the chemist or taking an hour's round trip to put them in as they often don't answer the phone.... The app is a joke.
App is an absolute sham
Ordering my repeat prescription online was so convenient, the NHS Wales app is a joke, keeps logging me out, my prescription repeat order has not worked, this after it took me almost 2 hours, for it to recognise who I was. Will have to ring my surgery in morning.
Criminally appalling!
Criminally appalling!. Devoid of ability, knowledge, ethics, compassion, and morality. Completely inefficiencient and totally, totally ineffective.
NHS app not fit for purpose
The NHS app is not fit for purpose and it is very worrying that the My Health Online app (which does work) is being taken down at the end of March 2025. I have just looked at MHOL and there are 5 appointments available to book next month. Yet the NHS app says no appointments are available at all. The NHS app also states I have no repeat prescriptions...yet I do.
I fail to understand why the Welsh government have wasted so much money developing such a useless application when they could have piggybacked on the English app. Why reinvent the wheel ...when you end up with a square wheel?
Llandudno Hospital Minor Injuries Reception
Llandudno Hospital - Reception desk for Minor Injuries Unit Weds 26 Feb 4-5pm. Unpleasant experience in customer/patient service. We called NHS111 & they advised us to go to Llandudno Hospital Minor Injuries unit. On arrival with our teenage daughter with suspected broken ankle or bad sprain and in pain - the senior lady on Reception did not give triage and then informed us there was 1 patient in with the 1 nurse on duty and that we couldn't in any way at all wait inside or near the reception area (actually, there was a chair there in reception area that our 15 yrs old daughter who couldn't stand up properly/ in real pain perhaps they could have empathetically let at least her sit on?) but that we must only wait outside the building (it was raining & cold) or in our car away in the car park. We accepted this and I said we would keep checking back if we saw anyone exiting the building, which we did on 3 occasions- this was the only way to see if the Minor injuries nurse was free/ finished with the 1 patient they had. On the 3rd time going in I saw an elderly patient with a family member exiting & with dressing on face, so when I went in I asked the lady if this was potentially someone she'd checked in earlier to Minor injuries & should I bring my daughter to her reception desk. The lady replied she didn't know who the person was & that her screen didn't say either. Obviously the Reception did know who it was as it was very quiet and only 1 person in minor injuries. I said I would come back in 2 minutes to check and the lady said we could wait at Glan Clwyd a&e, but I mentioned the queue there at that moment was 6.5hours, but she said that was OK for us! As I was walking back to the car 2 people walked into reception. So my wife went to check with Reception immediately, however the same older lady on reception was now doing triage conversation with the 2 people to be taken by minor injuries unit who just arrived at reception. They were also allowed by the lady to sit by reception. My wife was upset by this as we did have a daughter in pain & she would've benefited from sitting down by reception and would also have been able to know and get the next consultation. Surely, also it is protocol for reception staff to do triage with anyone who arrives at their desk? This was not offered to my daughter. My wife is Asian ethnicity and she's even worried if she had someone with some kind of racial prejudice dealing with us at reception especially now triage or seat to sit on for poorly daughter was offered? Hopefully not and probably not, but who knows given the derogatory way we were dealt with. Please can nhs managers first of all check on these things: 1. Staff customer service training (you are dealing with people who are not well so obviously empathy is preferable before qualifications); 2. Have we been stigmatised in some way?; 3. The system for people with Minor injuries needs immediate review - i.e. poorly people need to wait outside & left to chance if they can see whether they can ask reception if they can see a nurse & the need to ask reception staff who seem indifferent/ rude to people who are only there as they're genuinely ill and therefore at low ebb - nhs management please this 'queueing' is degrading for poorly people and no doubt difficult for your reception staff to know what to do too probably.
What's funny, is that afterwards we went to the pharmacy in Morrisons in Colwyn Bay where a first aid trained staff member checked my daughters foot and deduced it was a bad sprain and made recommendations on tube grip/bandages/pain killers..... so Morrisons is easier to get sorted with for Minor injuires/falls than the NHS?
But seriously, please review your staff and your procedures about the above. You're dealing with people in need / ill people. They deserve tons more respect. Diolch and in good faith.

Glangwili Hospital South Wales
The hospital’s care was exceptionally poor. During the bank holiday weekend, all doctors were off for the three-day weekend, leaving only one doctor on call. Consequently, if an individual becomes critically ill over a bank holiday weekend, there is a lack of medical professionals with extensive knowledge of the patient’s condition. The staff’s attitude was concerning, as they repeatedly informed my mother that her condition was terminal each day. It was as if they were attempting to hasten her demise. Recalling that experience at Glangwili Hospital evokes vivid nightmares.
Regrettably, my mother became a victim of a healthcare system that is unfit for purpose and must be abolished.
The care provided at Glangwili Hospital was utterly deplorable.
Top care and attention from staff at Glan Clwyd.
2 long days sat in the waiting room before being seen by a doctor and then back to the waiting room for another long wait to be allocated a bed. Once a bed was allocated I was classed as an in patient and the care I received at Glan Clwyd was excellent. Thank you to all the nursing staff and Doctors who looked after me.

Medical/clinical treatment is mostly fine but bureaucracy is terrible
Medical/clinical treatment is mostly fine, esp A&E and cardio surgery when you can access it, but the bureaucracy we face is worse than useless. On a couple of occasions lately I don't exist on their computer records until I do at some point later after many frustrating tel calls. This is my experience over the last few years and esp the last couple of months.
