DO NOT open a Wells Fargo account if you're not from the US
I watched my balance slowly drain month after month from fees. Now I have $11 left.
To close my account from abroad, Wells Fargo requires me to fill out a physical form, get it notarized for ~$50, and mail it internationally. In 2026. To close a bank account.
There is no secure email. No digital process. The international phone line never connects you to a real person. The in-app chat just loops you back to the same dead-end phone number. I have an open case number, #8401-469FB, that has gone nowhere for months.
They make it effortless to open an account. They make it nearly impossible to leave one.
If you are an immigrant, an expat, or anyone who does not live permanently in the US: Wells Fargo is not built for you. The moment you leave the country, you become invisible to them. Except for that monthly fee. That one keeps working just fine.
Simply denied 6k in fradulent charges…
Simply denied 6k in fradulent charges to my lost card on top paid 1500 in overdraft to some fraudsters mind you i had no overdraft
Avoid Wells Fargo Bank
I was a customer for many years, but after the Horrible incompetence service ,I closed my accounts. I had fraudulent activity affecting multiple accounts. I reported it promptly to my branch bank and their fraud department. Every time one calls their customer service department you have to repeat your story and then they pass you around and nothing gets resolved. Multiple branch visits later resolved nothing, all the bank manager said was “ I’m sorry”, but never resolution and no restitution for my time and moneys lost.
My advice- Stay Away from Wells Fargo Bank!
simple business checking acct
simple business checking acct. putting money in their bank to beneit from a small bonus. AWFUL. I have put so much time into this situation. one hour interview like I was trying to BUY a bank. Then their site does not save your username so if you try to use the app you have to know it if your password saver doesn't cross devices to fil it in. then security code for every long in and they send two different ones in the text message just to confuse you. now I can't put money in the acocunt...error message. no chat support no email support. the first phone person just said "well I guess you have to go into a branch" OMG. now I've been on hold for 20 min with someone who thought they figured it out telling me the maximum deposit I could do is XXXXXX 2 grand more than what I'm trying to deposit.
Bait and Switch Scam with Convenience Checks
I have been a Wells Fargo customer - via bank mergers - since 1981. I currently have a significant auto loan through them as well as a checking account and credit card.
A few months ago I availed myself of a convenience check offer they made through the mail. It was for 12 months interest free with a 5% fee. I had to make two major purchases which I couldn’t pay off right away so after comparing this offer against my other options, it was the best for me. Both checks totaled $6500. I was charged the 5% fee which to my surprise was added to my 12 month interest free balance.
Here comes the catch. I always pay my credit card bill in full each month - on average about $2000 monthly because I charge almost everything on the WF card to get the 2% cash back. Well, when the first statement arrived which posted the convenience checks I looked to see the amount of my purchases subject to interest and paid that amount in full. The rest of the balance was the convenience checks and 5% fee with no interest accruing.
To my shock, the next month my statement showed I was charged interest. I couldn’t understand why so I contacted Wells Fargo and was told that a portion of my payment went to pay the convenience check balance and the rest was applied to my purchases. Because the entire amount was not applied to my purchase balance, it resulted in a carryover, which caused the interest charges to kick in. I couldn’t understand why they were applying any part of my payment to the interest free balance. I would think that the bank would first apply my payment to the balance amount subject to interest first and then anything beyond that would be applied towards the interest free balance. Of course, that would be the logical thing, but not in this case.
I asked the agent how much I would have to pay to avoid being charged any interest on my purchase balance, and I was told to make two payments - one for the minimum amount due and the other for the entire purchase balance showing on my statement. It made no sense for me to make two separate payments at the same time to the same company on the same account, but I did as requested. It didn’t work. The next statement still showed interest charges again.
I called again to ask what I needed to do to avoid being charged interest since the instructions I was given by them did not work. Incredibly, I was told the only way to avoid paying interest is to pay off the entire account including the two convenience checks which were interest free for 12 months. I found that to be ridiculous because the only reason I availed myself of the convenience checks was to not have to worry about paying them off for 12 months understanding I would be charged a 5% fee for that benefit. I told them that if they could not give me an amount for me to pay short of the entire balance to avoid interest payments then to give me the formula that they use to separate my payment between the interest accruing balance and the interest free balance. They could not do that either.
The only thing I can do at this point is to not use the Wells Fargo credit card for any additional purchases so I can reduce my interest payments until the entire balance is paid off. I have done that and reduced my interest payments to about a third of what they had been.
I can’t believe that a bank of this stature could not give me an answer as to the amount to pay to avoid interest charges, and that they have a policy regarding the application of my monthly payments such that a significant portion of them are going to pay off a balance which does not accrue interest before applying it to the balance that accrues interest. It seems a backhanded approach to charge their customers interest who normally pay their balances in full each month.
Despite the fact that I’m still paying about $10 in interest each month, the bank is on the losing end of this since I no longer charge over $2000 a month in purchases. I estimate the bank probably would have received over $60 in monthly revenue from the businesses through which I would have made those charges. So their loss of revenue far exceeds what pittance they are charging me in interest at this point.
I no longer trust Wells Fargo and will probably not use their credit card again even after this ordeal is over. I feel they did a bait and switch on me. Won’t give them the benefit of profiting from me again.
I wish I could give 0 stars
I wish I could give 0 stars, how are they still on business they have the worst costumer service no matter what location you go they are all the same, with the dumbest solutions and policies I have ever seen, in my case they increased my minimum on my account without letting me know and ended up paying 15 dlls monthly service fee, as soon as I noticed I called the bank and they told me “oh yeah your minimum increased from 500 to 1,500!! So I went ahead the next day and deposited the extra money I needed in there to not be charged, well a month later I get charged again and I called asking why now? , it was because OF THAT day when I noticed I was charged I should of have 1,500 in my account and not deposit the money on the next day so basically I didn’t meet the requirements ONE day out of the 30 days! I went ahead and canceled my account the next day which I had to wait 2 hours!! For a banker since the only one available took her sweet time to help a costumer to set up an online bank account and then decided to go to lunch AND THEN see me and I was the only costumer waiting for a banker.
First they send the ordered checks to…
First they send the ordered checks to the wrong address in spite of specifying the right one on the order as well as having the default set correctly. Then they try to charge you extra for sending them to the correct address. And when you question that, someone named Garry would block your account without your permission. Absolutely horrible customer service with super unprofessional agents.
Lost All My Money to a Scam—Wells Fargo Denied My Claim
I was targeted by scammers who convincingly posed as agents from Wells Fargo’s fraud department. Acting in good faith to protect my account from being compromised, I followed their instructions to transfer my money—only to later discover that they were the scammers who compromised my account. I lost all the money I had across three accounts.
What was most upsetting was the bank’s response. Despite the clear context of fraud and my immediate reporting, my claim was denied.
I understand that scams can be complex. However, customers should not be left completely unprotected when they are manipulated under false pretenses by individuals claiming to represent the bank itself.
Because of this experience, I no longer feel that storing any money with Wells Fargo is safe. The approximately $3,000 I lost may be insignificant to a large institution, but for me, it was what I needed to live on for a month. Losing everything and receiving no reimbursement has made it clear that I cannot rely on this bank to protect its customers.
wells fargo have stolen my money!!!!
I wanted to maintain and reconcile my balance at Wells Fargo Bank by checking it daily, so I requested to close the account. The bank informed me that they could change my account type—thereby waiving future monthly service fees—so that I would not need to close the account after all. Of course, since the bank is a fraudulent, dishonest, and despicable institution, they had lied to me. In reality, they had switched me to a student account; however, that account has a maximum age limit of 21, whereas I am 46 years old and therefore ineligible for it. In other words, they sold me a product using false and misleading representations—or perhaps they simply did not want me to close my account. Yet, a few months later, the bank continued to charge me their monthly service fees. I called the bank and told them that what they were doing was wrong; I stated that the fees they had deducted were incorrect and demanded that they refund the fees and close the account. However, they neither refunded the fees nor closed the account! It is absolutely appalling that the United States continues to allow this financial institution—run by such dishonest, despicable, and vile individuals—to remain operational!
I wish I could put below 5 stars Wells…
I wish I could put below 5 stars Wells Fargo is a horrible bank. Unfortunately, I use them. Add a convenience, then do nothing.
When all of my money was taken out by someone saying they were a fraud agent of Wells Fargo they do not care if they're customers become homeless. It's all about their money.
Is a bank full of robbers
Not small business friendly
Wells Fargo does not treat all of its account holders fairly. I have been unfairly treated twice on two different loan applications. The first time was on my PPP loan. I applied on day one, but my application was one the vary last to be processed. Wells Fargo prioritized the larger loans, many of which we now know were fraudulent. There was a pretty big class action lawsuit over this. I had to badger Wells Fargo almost daily, for months, before they finally thew me a few a bone. A pittance. An outright insult. It wasn't even enough to cover a month of my company's payroll. Based on my business payroll, I should have received 3-4x more than what I ended up getting. The second time was more recently. Back in November 2025 I applied for a business line of credit because several of my clients had fallen way behind on paying my invoices and I needed liquidity to keep my doors open. My application sat for 4 months. I never received a call, a letter, or even an email. I attempted to contact them on several occasions before I was able to get someone on the phone. They closed my application and NEVER once bothered to call me or send a letter. Nothing. When I was finally able to get in touch with someone, they showed zero concern. I might as well had been gum on the bottom of their wing tipped shoes. Today, 4-1/2 months later, I get a call from them and a lady claims they called me 3 times and read the number off that they called. It wasn't my number. It wasn't even a number that I had in the past. Somehow, they called the correct number; to tell me they called me THREE TIMES on a number that never belonged to me. They claimed they approved the loan, but no one ever contacted me to finalize and fund it. They closed my application and told me I would have to apply again. Basically, they lied. If they were being truthful, they would have told me that my business is just too small for them to bother with. They also said I could go to a local branch and apply again, and have another hard check on my personal credit, which would be detrimental to my credit score. So, if you run a small business, and bank with Wells Fargo, don't expect to receive fair treatment. Expect to be ignored. Expect to have to call them multiple times. Expect to be mistreated and disappointed. If you run a small business and need a banking partner, go to your local credit union or a small independent bank. Wells Fargo is just too big and important to be bothered serving the needs of small businesses.
Wells Fargo turned a small balance into…
Wells Fargo turned a small balance into a $17,000 debt through endless fees and charges that I never agreed to. I closed my account because the charges kept increasing and no one could properly explain them.
Every time I looked at the account the balance was higher even though I wasn’t spending money. It feels like the bank just kept adding fee after fee without transparency.
A bank is supposed to protect your money, not trap customers in a cycle of charges. I would strongly advise anyone banking with Wells Fargo to monitor their account carefully and question every fee they charge.

I stopped banking with the for many reasons. Recently from closing out an auto loan I had many issues again. Just a reminder NEVER do business with Wells Fargo they arent good at the business they are in.
The Estate Department is the worse
The Estate Department is the worse! I fill out the forms with a Wells Fargo employee and then another employee tells me it's wrong and I have to fill it out again. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I started this process in early November and they STILL have not transferred funds. Hey Wells Fargo - it's not your money. It's my money. Wish I could give zero stars.
Wells Fargo - worst bank to do business
Recent response to WF Survey response
You are the worst company to do business with. In the process to open a business account and needed help I was transferred to existing accounts after a 40 minute I could not be helped cause I didn't had an account number. Due to the horrible service I called to cancel the account, I could not be helped because I didn't had my full account number, told them I could not authenticate online because I didn't had the account number and the atm was not received yet. In a smart tone I was asked if I did not received a confirmation email. I said yeas but there is no acct number only a reference number. She told me she could not look up my account with a reference number, nor my social security or other personal data included on the application. You suck as a business and lost a business customer forever. I handle accounting for many companies and will make sure I share my experience with them and tell them how horrible your service is.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would
They are absolutely liars. They will take your money and run you through every loophole not to give you your money back in a timely manner. I will never work with the again.
Telephone Claims customer service agent extremely rude
Wait times for customer service are too long. Please staff general customer service with more knowledgeable personnel. Replace rude dismissive agents that answer calls about status of open claims. Customers shouldn't be treated as if we are ignorant. I am a long time customer considering finding another financial institution because of my recent experience when calling for customer service.
After over 20 years with Wachovia/Wells…
After over 20 years with Wachovia/Wells Fargo, they finally gave me the motivation to leave. Upping the monthly fee, again, to $15. I was $60 short meeting the requirements one month due to health issues, so obviously I have an extra $15 to lose. I guess I am just not the type of customer they want anymore. I cannot wait to close my account.
Okay unless you need help with anything
Transferred 5 times to get general info for a new account I WAS considering. Each transfer was a long menu in both English & Spanish plus wait time. After 5th transfer, went to a dead line after the long menu spiel. A bunch of wasted time for nothing. Would give zero stars if I could & will certainly NOT be getting the account with them.

They sent my $4000 check to my old address. When I called them to get the address corrected and re-issue the check to the new address, they said it's already send not sure what we can do?
