Excellent trading platform for this…
Excellent trading platform for this alternative investment class. I’ve been an investor since January 2016 and have been impressed with the returns. Obviously, like all investing your money it is at risk - the price of whisky could go down. And as an asset class it’s very small niche. You would want a very diversified portfolio before adding whisky. Some might question the ethics of investing in alcohol. However, having once lived in the highlands of Scotland I know the jobs and income and tourism this industry provides for the local area and I’m happy to support.

I echo many recent posts - five star service but no whisky. To add injury to insult, when accepting a BTB we are give a month to re-purchase at reduced commission - but there is never enough whisky to buy.
This offer is therefore meaningless as nobody can take advantage of it.

We share and feel your frustration. We are well aware that we could sell 10x the quantity of new make spirit via our pre-orders than we are currently able to offer. We also understand that because of the returns seen by our users that it is disappointing when they cannot purchase all that they would like to, particularly to replenish their spirit sold back to the industry via bulk trade bids.
This two-way trading proves the value of our platform by enabling users to sell and profit from their maturing whisky and demonstrates to the Scotch industry that we are an excellent and reliable source of wholesale priced maturing spirit.
The truth of the matter as we have covered in recent whisky news articles https://www.whiskyinvestdirect.com/whisky-news/latest-whisky-news is that the wholesale Scotch whisky market has tightened, and distillers are unable to quickly increase their production to meet potential future demand. This means that although we will purchase over 1.5m LPA this year we are unlikely to be able to source additional new fillings before the end of the year and the number of bulk trade bids from the industry are unlikely to slow in the short term.
As you would expect, we are doing all that we can to secure additional maturing whisky for this year whilst working with distillers to increase our supply for subsequent years.
We would advise all users update their communication preferences and opt-in to receive notification of new stock lines, offers & news via email as this is the best way to receive updates on new stock.

Very positive experience
Started investing about a year ago, which was a good time as there were various packages available then, and have made a really good return, over 20%, I think. Having just sat on my investments at first I gradually got into the trading platform, which has been kind of fun, and I've developed various strategies, which I shall keep under my hat! As someone says below, with limited stock currently available, and also with the prices on the platform having risen rather astronomically in some cases, it requires patience and dedication to make the site work for you. But I still enjoy it and have done well out of it.

You guys need to offer more whisky
This was once a very interesting investment idea, but too many people have come aboard. My pre-orders are now filled to less than 10% and I pay more money in custody charges than I can possibly win by keeping the whisky. In the past, my minimum amount of whisky to buy was set at 1 LPA. In the current circumstances, I will have to put this to 200 LPA or so which means that, in fact, there will be no way to get any new whisky anymore. The live order board is wiped out of sensible offers for the last year or so. Maybe the organisers can try and get more whisky from other places (Ireland, Japan, US) to make the process efficient again.

Over subscribed
I am begging to doubt this venture anymore. it is getting near on impossible to secure a worthy amount on the Pre Order board. I requested over £4k investment and was allocated £150.00 worth.
I cannot help feeling the platform is too over subscribed and does not look as interesting as it once did
Having seen the reply I have actually been with you folk for the best part of those 7 years and as for the pre order notice and making sure I'm linked into receiving early notifications is exactly how I chose 4K and got £150. Pretty empty reply to be fair.

Whilst the live order board enables users to sell their maturing whisky in an instant, the flip side is that there are significantly more buyers than sellers and this has naturally pushed prices upwards, benefitting current stockholders, but frustrating new investors and those wishing to add to their holdings.
However, WhiskyInvestDirect adds hundreds of thousands of litres of maturing Scotch to the platform each quarter (on average every 2 months) via pre-orders. This remains the best way to purchase young spirit even if users are currently unlikely to receive all the whisky that they would like to buy.
Going forward, we will continue to source high-quality, well-priced maturing Scotch whisky from existing and new suppliers but despite having placed orders for many millions of litres over the coming 12 months we realistically expect user demand to outstrip supply over the medium term.

WhiskyInvestDirect is the best investment I've got at the moment. The demand for whisky must be high as some have gone up 50% in three years. There are costs for storage but you get it back in spades because the whisky has appreciated. The website lays it all before you and you can see how much your profit is and your costs. Glad I joined.

Sadly, the company policy continues accepting new investors even when it is almost impossible to invest for the existing ones, due to the lack of stock available or new one not able to cover the huge demand. A great platform, a very secure one but I feel very frustrated.

I was a member for the past 3 years and…
I was a member for the past 3 years and am delighted with the return and would have given 5 stars.However, during the past 6 month it has been increasingly difficult to preorder due to the high demand and I only got 9% of my last order so i have now sold all stock and left the platform. It seems to be a victim of it's own success as there is insufficient whisky to meet demand.

Good solid company, difficult to get invested.
Good company and positive solid investment. It is a long term investment though so don't expect to make huge return overnight. Getting money invested in new stock is becoming a problem because so many investors have come to the platform now. I guess it's a good sign that so many people want to put their money with WhiskyInvestDirect but unfortunately it makes it really difficult for larger investors.

Good platform but you need a long term outlook…
The platform itself is good, simple to use and works well from a usability perspective.
I know very little regarding Whisky investment but that isn’t necessarily required, a basic understanding is sufficient.
However, given the current popularity of the platform there is significant cash drag based on a reasonably sized investment. The live marketplace isn’t particularly active, despite accessing a few times a day in the first instance and there is significant demand in the ‘buy’ part of the website and very few lenders/investors selling their holdings. The pre order board was useful, however the requested investment is likely to be partially fulfilled given so much demand.
In conclusion, if you have plenty time and want an hands on active investment and are prepared to have patience, then this is a good option. Let’s see how it goes, I’ll update my review if liquidity improves.
