Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 84 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Shoppers frequently complain about exceptionally high prices that do not match the poor product quality, frequently reporting spoiled food, moldy produce, and stale items. Many buyers also experienced unhelpful, rude staff members and frustrating customer service interactions, alongside completely unfulfilled delivery orders. Conversely, a small portion of people felt quite satisfied with certain positive aspects of the store experience. Some reviewers warmly praised exceptional individual employees who consistently provide dedicated and helpful service. Others noted that specific grocery items and trusted brand products remain fresh and enjoyable to purchase.

Sandy Springs Whole Foods

I usually go to a Whole Foods in Sandy springs of Roswell rd. Atlanta, GA.
I ve seen Whole Foods groceries quality dropped from 100% awesome to somewhat 30% below subpar. I have been visiting this location for years as I live not too far. The managers are doing a horrible job leading the store associates. Associates look scared and always miserable. No-one greets you or simply smiling at least sometimes in there. Everyone looks angry and deals with customers in a crude way. I ve been observing this reality for some time now. Dismissive, bitchy, deflective attitude is how associates handle questions, concerns, requests of the customers. If this is the store culture, that's a sad, a very sad way to be. Everyone looks uncomfortable, and everything is through passive aggressive subtle projections.Customer service representative hasn't used a device to look up what I asked to look up. Said these devices don't do that. Whole Foods since purchased by amazon became of the same culture as the amazon itself, extension of the plantation. Clearly workers are underpaid and managers don't regulate the culture of a good experience, possible cause there is nothing good to experience at all. Disgusting. Pathetic, Gratuitous in its fullest pretense. I had way too many bad experiences in Whole Foods. What am I paying for? to go talk to an angry old woman, who feel bothered by my question about the supplement? Paradox.

Not bad but could be much better and driven too much by greed lets it down

Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market in 2017 cost $13.7 billion.

####### Pros
1. Some genuinely high‑quality grocery items.

2. Good variety across fresh produce, prepared foods, and specialty items.

3. Smoothies, hot drinks, cold drinks, and a loyalty card — but only for the café, not for grocery shopping.

4. Rice dish with Beef, pork and chicken. They now offer guacamole for free. Previously you paid extra. They do have a odd system though because they allow 4 items included in the price, choices are Choose, 1)cheese, 2)lettuce, 4)sour cream, and/or 4) chopped tomato + herbs + light dressing but this is all they have on offer so odd they ask you can have 4 if this is all they have anyway. You can add guacamole now as well with things like onions etc.
####### Cons

1. 20& off ice drinks at the time of writing.

2. Prices can be significantly higher than other retailers.
For example, I pay around £25/kg for wild sea bass at my local fishmonger — already on the expensive side, but trusted. Whole Foods charges roughly double when you work it out. Selfridges is similar, but at least their pricing is expected due to their high lease costs.
Check online with other retailers first. Buy when discounted but check

3. Discounted items are not discounted at the till.
I’ve been charged full price multiple times for items clearly marked as 50% off but I now this trick so not caught out. Staff confirmed that many customers complain about this. Unless you check your receipt, you will almost certainly pay full price.
I bought five kefir yoghurts at 50% off — the till charged full price.

Every supermarket updates the barcode so the discount is applied automatically. Whole Foods does not, and this feels intentional. It places the burden entirely on the customer, a classic profit‑maximising tactic.

4. No loyalty card or points system for grocery shopping — only for the café. Amazon do not reward loyal customers like other stores. You need to factor this in when purchasing items long term. This is greed. I keep asking. They keep responding and not interested.

5. Pizza slices have minimal toppings despite being priced as if they’re fully loaded. I’ve raised this with staff and management several times. The toppings are sold just a few feet away, yet the slices use the bare minimum. You are paying for dough and tomato paste. Vegan similar to much yet so much cheaper

6. Packaged food is not the best as they make it there. The chicken, for example, is stiff and not ideal for me as likely sits in the shelf for too long.

7. The rice bowl section used to be inflexible — you couldn’t mix white/brown rice or black/brown beans. This has recently improved, which suggests the previous manager may have been enforcing the strict policy.

8. No organic foods in fruit and veges section. . I might be wrong, but I didn’t see any certified organic logos on the products. I’ll update this if it turns out they apply the soil‑association code differently as some items have the certified ode so not as obvious but I'm 80% sure this does not apply here

Major Concern: Discount Pricing
This is the biggest issue.
Most retailers update barcodes so the till automatically applies the reduced price. Whole Foods does not.

Given that Amazon owns Whole Foods, it’s hard to believe they cannot update their systems overnight like other supermarkets do. The practice feels designed to maximise profit through customer oversight.

Overall
Whole Foods offers good products, but long‑term you can easily end up paying more than expected. There are no grocery rewards, and you must be vigilant at checkout — especially with discounted items — or you will be charged full price.

Always speak to staff to have the price corrected.
This pricing approach makes it difficult to fully trust the store.

Good hygiene standards as far as I can tell.

They have WIFI and seating upstairs and outside.

Similar to Planet Organic that I shop at but they offer rewards through an app.

I shop their regularly still as I feel they have some quality items. Surprisingly though they do not appear to be a big fan of organic. Fruit and veges section, for example has nothing.

BE AWARE — CHECK YOUR RECEIPT CAREFULLY AT WHOLE FOODS, 808 COLUMBUS AVE. NYC

spent $415 on groceries at this store. Because I was buying a large number of items, it was obviously impossible to stand at the register and verify every single item and quantity while everything was being scanned. I trusted that I was being charged correctly.

Big mistake.

I asked for the receipt to be sent electronically, and when I later reviewed it, I discovered that the quantities charged for certain items did not match what I actually purchased. I was charged for quantities I did not take home.

I contacted Amazon expecting a simple correction. Instead, I was told they would need to “start an investigation,” interview the cashier, and contact me during the investigation. Give me a break. I just spent $415 on groceries. I should not have to spend more of my time participating in an investigation because their checkout was inaccurate.

That is what makes this particularly unacceptable. With a $400+ grocery purchase, it is practically impossible to verify dozens of items and quantities while standing at a busy checkout. Customers naturally assume that if they buy one item, they will be charged for one—not two or three. You discover the discrepancy later, and suddenly correcting their mistake becomes your burden.

Be aware and check your receipt carefully. Do not be as naive as I was in simply trusting that the quantities were entered correctly.

And frankly, considering how busy I am, I will very likely not shop at this Whole Foods again. Grocery shopping is supposed to save me time, not create an investigation and another chore because I trusted the store to charge me accurately. There are plenty of places where I can spend $415 on groceries without having to audit my receipt afterward.

Avoid at all cost

Really poor website options for selecting items. Exceptionally high prices for mediocre products. So much available to the owner with limited input in the stores. Avoid at all cost! Like buying gas from BP. Both bastards are ruining the planet

I purchased an item online as a gift

I purchased an item online for an in-store pick up. I didn't look in the bag , assuming I was picking up what I ordered. It was the wrong item. When I went back to the store to exchange it, they said it was a 3rd party item and they couldn't honor an exchange, even though they had the coreect item in stock. I bought what I needed and still have the incorrect item. Whole Foods seriously doesn't have the capability to process an even exchange. I wanted the blue tongue scraper, not the pink and now I have two. Whole Foods is just like Amazon, a company that takes zero accountability.

Danbury Whole Foods organic produce from bad to worse..

For years I’ve been buying organic food in Whole Foods store Danbury , and I can clearly see the decline in quality. What I bought today made me furious! Cal-Organic Farms radishes grown with PRIDE and INTEGRITY was the claim on the pack. But inside I found nothing to be proud of.. all radishes were rotten or empty inside or just full of water after probably being frozen. The worst was the taste. Those were not bitter and crunchy for the salad that I planned to use them for.. those were wet tasteless fiber .. not even close to the radishes I used to buy.. And fresh organic cucumbers … another big disappointment! They lost their original taste too! Just the price and the crunchiness are left! What a misery for those who love green salads with fresh clean produce every day! Worst quality since my first negative review some years ago. Probably visiting local farmers will bring better result than organic non eatable produce from Danbury Whole Foods.. And I’m not even talking about their “fresh” fish.. it’s another big problem to be discussed.. Very frustrating experience.. Stay away from that type of produce !

Very disappointing and mis-managed…

Very disappointing and mis-managed store (McKinney, TX)
During my most recent visit, which will probably be my last:
1. Almondmilk shelf filled with cartons set to expire the next day.
2. Meat & seafood counter clerk with little knowledge of what was there. Best he was qualified to do was cut a portion for sale.
3. Very poor selection and quantity of fish. Even the advertised sale items had one/two skimpy pieces available.
4.Wifi which barely worked preventing me from pulling up the 1-time QR Amazon code for discounts.
5. Health products with a price above list and higher than what Amazon website says Whole Foods lists it for sale.
6. Check-out clerk that acknowledged that they never get timely truck deliveries.
7. They are building a ton of apartments nearby. The place should be busy, but is not.
Not worth the trip, especially with better stores nearby.

Sage the AI bothead

Sage the AI bothead wouldn't let me through when it got to the diversity section. I put my true race on it, and it wouldn't move forward. Quite frankly, for a PT position I decided to call the store and talked to the Mgr. of that dept. She stated they had no positions opened.

I bought a prepared meal ½ price…

I bought a prepared meal ½ price because it was on the “sell by” date. After eating the meal that night I checked the receipt out of curiosity and found they charged me full price. At customer service the next day I was lectured that I should have informed the cashier, that I should have checked the receipt before leaving the store, and I was supposed to bring the meal back. Three lectures, no apology. (BTW the receipt is emailed.) When I asked nicely how I could return an eaten meal, she rudely walked away. While Foods used to be good. Now it sucks for many reasons but this was the last straw. I’ve told the story to everyone I know. It points to poor management. BTW, HEB is consistently great. (Date below approximate.)

I visited Whole Foods

I visited Whole Foods, and I was unpleasantly surprised by the cashier. When I mentioned my Amazon Prime membership to apply a discount I knew existed. he dismissed it insisting I had no discount. Even when 1 reiterated that my membership is linked ta my card, he repeated there was nothing. Meanwhile, the next customer was kindly asked about their membership. When I returned with a photo clearly showing the discount (which was about 8-10 dollars), he showed no reaction, as if it was routine. This gave me the impression that short-changing customers might be a norm there, and the lack of honesty is what frustrated me most

Dave in Whole Body Irvine Spectrum is the real deal!

I've been meaning to write this note for quite a while! I've visited the Irvine Spectrum Whole Foods store many times, and it's always a joy to see Dave in the Whole Body department. He is truly a gem, and I hope store leadership recognizes the tremendous value he brings to both customers and the whole store team!

As someone who's spent years leading teams and building customer experiences, I know how rare it is to encounter an individual with both exceptional product knowledge and genuine human interaction! I've come to trust Dave's recommendations wholeheartedly b/c his understanding of wellness, and nature's role in supporting overall well-being is remarkable. I trust him. He's always spot on.

What stands out most, though, is his calm, welcoming presence. Dave is patient, professional, and deeply committed to helping people. I've watched him go above and beyond for customers, often assisting with products far beyond his own department.

Dave is the kind of person who quietly builds trust, loyalty, and community. Whole Foods is incredibly fortunate to have a team member of his caliber- you simply don't meet people like Dave very often!

Dave--- thank you. We always appreciate you and hope you and your wonderful family are thriving and well!

Look closely.

Their meat counter features lots of signs boasting “organic” and “grass fed.” What it doesn’t say is “prime.” So you’re paying prime meat prices for USDA choice. GTFO.

Fruit Tart- Disappointed by Higher Price and Lower Quality

My husband and I have been buying the fruit tart from Whole Foods for many years. When we first started purchasing it, it was only $14.99 and was loaded with a variety of fresh fruit. Over time, the price has increased significantly to $26.99, but unfortunately the quality has not kept up. The amount and variety of fruit on the tart have noticeably decreased, making it feel like it is no longer worth the higher cost. We have always enjoyed this product, but we are disappointed by the reduced value compared to what it used to offer.
