Our 50th Anniversary Southern Africa adventure was truly the trip of a lifetime. Although we are experienced international travelers—and I had visited many parts of Africa numerous times before retiring, I had never been on safari. Returning to the Cape Town area and experiencing safaris in the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Delta had long been on my/our bucket list. Yellow Zebra (YZ) made our three-week journey exceptional, exceeding even our highest expectations. Because I was familiar with Africa and had a sense of what we wanted to see and do, I researched several travel organizations/agencies that could help make the trip memorable. We selected YZ, and they came through with flying colors, combining our goals with their expertise to create a tailor-made itinerary that surpassed our expectations. We are especially grateful to Sebastian for planning a trip that began with several days in the Cape Town area, continued with three extraordinary safari camps in Botswana, and concluded with three days near Victoria Falls. The safaris were the highlight of our journey. We wanted a comfortable experience that still felt authentic, which is what YZ delivered at the first two camps. For our third safari camp, we asked for a more “traditional” safari experience with fewer “bells and whistles.” Sebastian recommended a mobile camp that provided all the basic comforts while giving us the feeling of being truly immersed in the “bush.” Our lodge in near Livingstone, Zambia, on the banks of the Zambezi River next to Victoria Falls, was extraordinary … talk about bells and whistles!! Our remarkable experience was due not only to the excellent venues YZ recommended, but also to the detailed planning and flawless execution by YZ representatives on the ground. Every transfer—including two commercial flights, three single-prop plane rides, and two helicopters—was planned and carried out to perfection. Someone was there to meet us at every step. In addition to Sebastian, we want to thank Hayley from the Operations Team for her excellent pre and post-trip support, as well as Tee and her on-the-ground team in South Africa. Their support gave us confidence that, had any issue arisen, it would have been handled promptly. Bottom line: Yellow Zebra delivered flawlessly on its promise/commitment and provided us the experience of a lifetime. If we return to Africa, Yellow Zebra will be our first call.

Even though I am an experienced traveler, Africa completely baffled me. I spent months doing my own research and was so frustrated trying to craft the perfect experience that on a whim I contacted Yellow Zebra. I am not the type that does the tour operator thing so this was really going out on a limb. Georgia jumped on a video chat with me and took the time to understand everything I was looking for. We talked at length about everything I wanted with this trip including time of year, camp experience, game drives and everything else under the sun.

Georgia's camp recommendations, the locations for big cat sitings, the weather and everything in between were all on point. I said I wanted to see big cats and we saw so many lions (and leopards and cheetahs)!! One of the things that I would like to compliment YZ on is the seamless organization that takes place when they book for their customers. Every detail was handled. Yes, this included the airport transfers, small plane jaunts, the little lunch boxes when you were on the road... and every small touch possible. We were reluctant to buy souvenirs in Nairobi due to weight restrictions going out to the Kicheche Laikipia and Mara North Camps. Our driver arranged for his company to hold our souvenirs while we were gone and pick them up on our way out of the country. Who does that? On this trip we stayed at the Kicheche Camps in Kenya and both driver/guides were incredible. The entire Kicheche staff in both camps were personable and attentive. The game drives, food, tents, and service were top notch!

We will be calling YZ again to return to Africa!

Yellow Zebra went out of their way to accommodate all of things my friend and I wanted to do. We stayed at the nicest places, met the kindest and most competent people and our private safari was incredible! We had a guide with 20 years experience and he insured we got the best views of animals and birds and patiently let us linger as long as we wanted. We had one delayed flight and the staff meeting us at the airport waited 6 hours for us to arrive. They still received us with enthusiasm. Yellow Zebra checked on us frequently throughout the trip, ensuring all our needs and expectations were met. I have never had this kind of service before and strongly recommend this entire team. If I'm fortunate to take another such trip, it will only be with Yellow Zebra!

It offers everything you could hope for from an African safari, with lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hippos and so much more, but with the incredible added bonus of chimpanzee trekking and the unforgettable experience of seeing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

We returned home with memories that will last a lifetime and are so grateful to the team at Yellow Zebra for making it happen. Their expertise, attention to detail and genuine passion for creating exceptional travel experiences shone through from start to finish.

Jason first worked with us for many weeks crafting a custom trip. He was very helpful and knowledgeable and suggested areas and camps suited to us. After finalizing the trip a team of operations and logistics experts take over to make sure everything is pulled together. This involved working with lots of moving parts and pieces, and everything went off without a hitch!

Let me start with what worked well: The companies and camps chosen by Yellow Zebra executed the safari flawlessly. This part of the trip exceeded our expectations.

What worked poorly: We travelled with another couple and the sales and invoicing process and resulting reservations, we made in the name of the other couple for the invoices and some of the reservations. I understand this may be more convenient for YZ....BUT NOT for the client. I guess what was more important was the convenience to Yellow Zebra....MOST unfortunate!!!

We are typically DIY travelers. Africa was a bit much to tackle as a DIY. We are glad we booked with Yellow Zebra. Highly recommend!

They worked with us to create a unique experience which included a gorilla trek and a gorilla habituation; Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater safaris; and time to relax in Zanzibar.

They sent us trip planning information well in advance of our vacation (itinerary, info on tipping protocols, vaccines, clothing, etc) and were always available to answer any questions we had. We felt truly set up for success.

Along with this superb trip planning and support (in-country flights, lodging, gorilla trek permits, 24/7 trip support, Visas….) they work with African-owned companies for the treks, safaris, etc. They also had medical doctors on call if/as needed.

We had one canceled flight. We learned about it when YZ contacted us to tell us about the re-booked flight and lodging they had *already arranged* for us.

They also arranged to have people take us to or meet us in each airport (at ALL times of day and night) and walk us through customs, transfers, etc.

The lodges they arranged for us were excellent. All had clean, comfortable, quiet, beautifully decorated rooms; lush, well maintained grounds; and excellent food. The staffs were knowledgeable, professional, hard working, and friendly.

The drivers were skilled and safe and extremely knowledgeable about the areas we visited.

We were able to fully relax and enjoy this bucket list trip. Thank you to the Yellow Zebra team and their partners.

Unreal experience. We can see how people get hooked on safaris! YZ was easy to work with and pretty organized (though getting visas was a struggle, and that's the fault of the government agencies, but we could've used a little more help there.) They booked us with all Kwando Safari camps, which were lovely.

This was an amazing trip! All aspects carried out as planned.
Communication with YZ excellent before we left. Communication with the GEL team on the ground in Africa also excellent. Not only did we see an amazing number of beautiful animals up close but also saw many birds. Our guides at all 4 camps in Botswana were outstanding and incredibly knowledgeable. Staff at all camps outstanding. Accommodations at all camps clean, comfortable and unique. The people of Botswana were exceptional. I loved being greeted with singing at several of the camps. We also spent a few days in the Victoria Falls area including a white rhino walking tour and continued as a jeep safari when that portion was done. Somewhat less organized here in Zimbabwe and Zambia but nevertheless, still amazing. We had a terrific driver in Victoria Falls.
We experienced no issues except for minor disappointment with handing off the bag of donations we brought with us. (Pack for a Purpose) (Dental care and school supplies comprised our donated items). We were told we could handoff to Wilderness at Kinsane airport. The folks there were not expecting and didn’t seem to know what to do. I asked that they please see they are donated to a children’s cause. I hope that was done.

Matt Gammon and the team delivered exactly what they promised and the safari went very smoothly. Transferred through 4 different camps in Zimbabwe and all arrangements were exactly as scheduled.

Our Yellow Zebra consultant Tagatha was responsive and knowledgeable every step of the way from initial contact and planning to post-trip followup . She took our wants and needs and tailored an extraordinary safari experience for us that exceeded our expectations. Our trip was wonderful from start to finish. The hotels and resorts were excellent. We especially appreciated our personal guide and driver in Cape Town. Having someone who grew up in South Africa who is so charming to take us around was such a special relationship to build. The safari at Dulini was remarkable. Our only regret is we didn't stay longer! Azura Benguerra was a wonderful way to end our adventure, and we are so glad that we got to experience the serene beauty of that island, and the warmth of its people!
