Unfair and unadvised contract conditions

We signed up with this company for a two year period. Now that we are finishing the contract they are claiming that we have to pay for a further three months as a completion exercise.
We were never made aware of this when we signed up - there was no mention of it until we came to finish.
They rely on some obfusactory wording in the contract that we signed to try and enforce this.
This has come as a great shock and disappointment from what I thought were an upright and genuine company
