Car rental warning ⚠️
⚠ WARNING: Zest Car Rental failed to protect us as customers
We booked through Zest (Which? Recommended Provider) and were fraudulently charged CHF 2,632.97 by Green Motion Zürich Airport for alleged damages — using photos dated the DAY AFTER we had already left Switzerland.
Zest’s response:
❌ Accepted every Green Motion argument without independent verification
❌ Never checked whether the repair had actually been carried out (Green Motion confirmed in writing it hadn’t)
❌ Only produced a key document AFTER we challenged their position
❌ Directed us to use insurance instead of defending our rights
❌ Went silent for over a month after promising Senior Management review
The result?
✅ VISA refunded our money in full — without Zest’s help.
The international Visa payment system recognised what Zest refused to acknowledge.
If you rent through Zest and face a dispute — do not expect them to be on your side. They will relay the rental provider’s position uncritically and leave you to fight alone.
We have filed a formal criminal complaint (Strafanzeige) with Zürich Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office against Green Motion for suspected fraud (StGB Art. 146) and document forgery (StGB Art. 251).

We take allegations of this nature very seriously and reviewed this matter thoroughly with Green Motion. Photographs taken at the time of return, alongside post-cleaning images, showed new damage that was not present on the collection video or pre-rental inspection. The charges were calculated externally using a standard Swiss assessment system, and as such, the provider applied the charge in line with the rental terms.
To protect our customers from high repair costs, your booking included Excess Reimbursement, which is why we recommended submitting a claim to recover these funds.
Because you have chosen to pursue this matter through a formal credit card chargeback and legal proceedings, Zest is unable to take further action on your behalf while these external investigations remain active. Once these processes have been concluded, our team will be available should you require any further assistance from us.

I always book my hire cars with Zest Car Rental when travelling to Spain. I’ve never had any extra costs at the hire desk apart from fuel, which makes the whole experience so much easier and more transparent.
I’d definitely recommend taking out the full insurance with Zest when booking your hire car — it’s so much cheaper than paying for insurance when you arrive at your destination.

Easiest pick up and drop off ever. Right outside departures. Quick with paper work and straight on the road. No attempts to upsell insurance or scare you. Online booking was easy, phone numbers to contact them provided.

Took the stress out

Easy to collect the car
Easy to collect the car , had to make an adjustment to my booking dates which was not a problem . Price was great for the hight of summer season and my car was exactly as described had fab fun in Portugal in a little fiat 500 convertible for 6 days . Great

Zest customer service was second to none. Their call centre is in UK and they actually answer the phone promptly, so that you can immediately speak to a human!
We had to extend our rental and this was done quickly and efficiently. I can’t praise them enough. This is the sort of customer service that has all but disappeared in most businesses, but not with Zest! Excellent Customer Service. 😊

Great communication from zest prior to our rental starting and always very responsive to any questions. Good customer service which gives additional peace of mind when dealing with car rental agencies abroad. We have used them several times when renting in Europe and always a good experience.
