Battery Failed after 40 hours of use.... Customer Support offered $599 Battery Replacement

I purchased a ZUGO e-bike for around $1,200 and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. After fewer than 40 hours of riding, the battery became defective. For a bike at this price point, I expected much better durability, especially for such a critical component.

Customer service told me I would need to pay $599 for a replacement battery. Being asked to spend nearly half the original purchase price to fix a battery that failed so quickly feels unreasonable and raises concerns about long-term ownership costs.

Assembly was also more challenging than expected, with unclear instructions and more effort required than what I would consider standard for a direct-to-consumer product.

Overall, I expected better quality control and stronger support for a product in this price range.

Only one day of use

On only the 2nd day of attempting to use my new bike, both the pedal-assist and throttle did not work and the display showed error code "08". Zugo's response was just to have me unplug and replug wires, take a bunch of pictures of the wires and parts, and then send new wires when the trouble-shooting didn't work. I replaced the old wires with new and the bike still doesn't work. I am not a bicycle technician and I shouldn't be expected to suddenly become one.
I paid out-of-pocket for a third-party bicycle technician look at it and provide real answers and was told the issue was with the motor. I reported this to Zugo and their response was to be dismissive of the technician's findings and state that they do not have any spare motors to send and don't know when they will get new ones in stock. So are they just not going to make more bikes for the time being? My trying to get Zugo to abide by their product and warranty, as well as interacting with them is like someone going to seek medical attention for a deep gash, and just being given a needle, some thread and a printout of sewing instructions, then being sent home to do my own stiches.
Please don't make the same expensive mistake I did. Stay clear of Zugo and go with a company that has the proffesionalism and resources to provide real support.
