Terrible

Writing another review as I’m unable to respond to Genki’s comments.

So Genki, I will write directly to you in the public eye…

You and I both know this is not a chronic condition, as you say. As stated by the doctor, this is an acute situation from a sports injury in December.

You are clearly looking for any loophole in your underwriting to get out of covering your client. This is the shame of the insurance companies in this world.

An elective surgery, by definition, is something that is not necessary or cosmetic. As I am unable to move, can’t get out of the bed in the morning and in constant pain, this is far from elective. It is medically necessary, as the doctor said.

I understand you are well trained in communication and have Compassionate sounding language in your responses. But we both know that underneath your outward facing projection is anything but compassion. It is lust for money and to make as much as you can while denying your clients the care you so well promised in your ads and on your website.

Your company is shameful and I couldn’t give you a worse review.

Hi Jory,

Thank you for your continued feedback.

The point is not whether a doctor has recommended treatment, but how that treatment is classified under the insurance conditions.

In insurance terms, an elective procedure is one that is planned in advance and not performed as an emergency or life-saving intervention.

Under Genki Traveler, coverage depends on this classification. The assessment is made by Squarelife based on the insurance conditions and applied consistently rather than case by case.

This reflects how coverage is defined for this product and is not a judgment about intent or individual circumstances.

We wish you a speedy recovery.

What an absolute nightmare

What an absolute nightmare. I have Genki and had a major accident playing sports. I have terrible nerve pain down my leg, numbness and serious difficulty walking.

I got an MRI which Genki reimbursed me for and it showed I severely herniated a disc in my lower back. The doctor is recommending surgery.

Genki just denied the claim. (Well, it’s not Genki, it’s their insurer called Square Life but as they are linked, they really are one and the same).

Square life is saying this is an elective surgery. This is absolutely insane. I can barely move, am taking pain meds to get through the day and get to sleep, can’t bend forward and the physical therapy I got it made it worse.

Just a terrible and incredibly painful experience.

UPDATE: In response to Genki’s response.

*You and I both know this is not a preexisting condition.*

This is an acute sports injury from December 19th that resulted in multiple herniated discs, numbness and pain down my leg. I saw the doctor on December 25th. Merry Christmas to me 🎄.

I understand that you are well trained in your communication style. You do it well. But again, you and I both know that you will find any loophole to not provide the coverage that your client thought he had. You’ve found a way to do that. It is immoral and cruel.

An elective surgery is something that doesn’t need medical intervention to heal. Based on my inability to walk for 3+ weeks now and the Doctor’s recommendation, that is clearly not the situation here. Here, you have a patient in serious need, who’s lost weeks of work and thousands of dollars, and who you refuse to cover.

I honestly couldn’t give you a worse review. You are the shame of the medial system, unkind and harmful. I felt so grateful to have insurance when I went to the doctor and he ordered an MRI. I felt so grateful to have coverage. And then so Incredibly demoralized by your viscously cruel actions. If I had the money to sue you, I would. But instead I have to spend that on a surgery for something that is so far from “elective”.

Stay healthy? Get well soon? 🌱

Don’t be so patronizing. You are really terrible people.

Hi Jory,

We’re very sorry to hear about the pain and limitations you’re experiencing.

Genki Traveler has clearly defined coverage limitations set out in the insurance conditions. In particular, pre-existing conditions are not covered, regardless of when a formal diagnosis is made.

In addition, the surgical procedure in discussion is considered elective by its nature, regardless of symptom severity. Elective surgeries are excluded from coverage. There are always alternative treatment approaches that would be classified as medically necessary.

If you still have any questions, our support team is available to help.

We wish you all the best for your recovery.

Alanna’s Courses Changed My Life

Alanna’s online courses have been pivotal in my career. They are clear, instructive and high quality. She and her teaching team provide flawless continued support throughout the duration of whatever program you join. After I completed the 500 hr teacher training I also did the Upward Facing Business Academy where I was taken step by step through the process of putting together my own online course. I am glad to say I succeeded in doing that and now have over 10 courses of my own. So grateful to you, Alanna, for helping me reshape my career!
