Air Serbia delights with a 4 hour trip taking three times as long, for no reason
Waiting on the runway is no big deal. However it becomes a problem when the airline just decides to wait there for 3 hours. Why? No idea, no one told us anything. It becomes a very big problem because I have a connecting flight to catch - one would think a 4 hour layover is fine, but not with Air Serbia!
Were approaching the Belgrade airport when I get a text message my connecting flight has been "changed". Just changed. Is it cancelled, missed? Who knows, even the airport help doesnt. "Its okay though!" they say, "You have another flight in 6 hours." Wow, very good. Didnt realise I get to be blessed on this fine day for a 12 hour trip from Berlin to Ljubljana.
Wish I could give 0 stars
I don’t know what was worse: the soul-crushing disorganization, the apathetic staff who looked like they’d rather be anywhere else, or the seats that felt like medieval torture devices. I’ve had smoother experiences at the DMV.
Checking in felt like a hostage negotiation. Customer service? Nonexistent. Their idea of help is shrugging at you like it’s your fault you trusted them with your time, money, and sanity.
If you like delays, rude staff, mystery fees, and the creeping feeling that you’re never getting where you’re supposed to go — fly Air Serbia. Otherwise, run.
I wouldn’t wish this airline on my worst enemy.
Avoid
Cheap ticket only to somehow sell out by the time I finish ordering! Each time! Stay well away from them, they are almost as bad as Wizzair.
Misadventure
On July 14, 2025, I went to Milan Malpensa Airport at 7:30 a.m. to catch the AirSERBIA flight at 9:25 a.m. to Sarajevo, with a layover in Belgrade,
As soon as I arrived at the airport, I saw on the screen that the flight was already delayed by several minutes. Within an hour, the delay increased: the original departure time of 9:25 was postponed to 10:35.
I had already checked in online and did not need to check any luggage, as I was only carrying a small cabin bag.
When the gate number was finally displayed on the screen – gate B28 – I immediately went there.
As soon as we were told to proceed with boarding, we started queuing.
It was almost my turn when a staff member signaled that only passengers with airport-issued boarding passes could proceed (presumably those who had checked luggage). Shortly afterward, just before our group was supposed to board, we were informed – to our surprise – that the flight was full:
*AirSERBIA had sent a smaller aircraft with insufficient capacity* for all passengers.
As a result, I and about 30 other passengers were left behind.
The staff promptly sent the list of stranded passengers to the airline, and before leaving, they told us that we would be contacted by AirSERBIA.
Meanwhile, a passenger near me was already trying to contact the call center at *+39 06 85874034*, a number listed under the “Contact Us” section of the airline’s official website.
After a long wait, he was told that we would receive an email.
While waiting – in vain – for this email or any form of contact, I wrote to AirSERBIA’s Customer Services, briefly explaining the incident and attaching a copy of my boarding pass.
By then it was around 1:00 p.m., and the three fellow stranded passengers I had met decided to go get something to eat.
In the afternoon, since I still hadn't received any communication, I tried calling the call center again from the airport. After a long wait, a representative answered. I explained the situation and provided my details.
I was offered a seat on a flight to Belgrade departing that evening at 9:00 p.m., arriving at 10:45 p.m., and then taking a connecting flight to Sarajevo the following day at 1:45 p.m.
At that point, I asked if it would instead be possible to leave the next day on the same schedule as the original flights – 9:25 a.m. Milan to Belgrade and 1:45 p.m. Belgrade to Sarajevo – on the condition that the airline cover the cost of overnight accommodation in Milan.
The representative said she would need to check and would call me back within half an hour.
More than an hour passed with no update, so I called the call center again. I explained the situation once more, including my request to rebook the trip for the following day with the hotel paid for by AirSERBIA.
This time, another representative took the call. She also said she needed to verify the situation.
When she returned to the line, she told me that *my name was not on the list of passengers left behind, and therefore I should have been able to board the flight without issue – which meant the airline would **not* cover the hotel expenses.
I then asked for information on how to request a refund for the ticket. I was told I would need to send an email to the call centre I was speaking with, explicitly stating that *the gate agents had denied me boarding*.
Only upon receiving this written declaration would the call centre contact the Malpensa airport staff to verify the truth of my statement.
If confirmed, only then would the airline proceed with the refund.
So I sent a brief message explaining that I was not allowed to board the plane.
Around 5:00 p.m., I took the shuttle back to Milan and arrived home at 9:00 p.m.
I lost the chance to enjoy a vacation that had taken time and energy to plan.
I lost the opportunity to rest, spending the day instead writing emails and making phone calls to AirSERBIA’s call centre.
I lost the money I had spent for the return flight.
*To this day, I have not been contacted by the airline.*
Never again with this company.
On the first of January this year, they canceled the flight, they did not compensate us, this happened in Slovenia.
Avoid for any cost
most awful experience I ever have. First airways which won't print you at once all your boarding pass for all connected flights. Our flight from Moscow to Belgrade was delayed. Dosens of people after landing ran to get boarding passes make madness because nothing work properly. because of that many people miss their flights. My baggage was also lost. No one in airport don't know anything, lots of people rude and just simply lazy. Their app simply useless. Third world airways with premium prices. While some airplanes new, they completely empty (no multimedia at all, no WiFi, didn't even find usb ports. Seats also hard).

Could be much better
Flights were delayed and the communication was poor. The staff seemed rushed and not very helpful. Would think twice before booking again.
Poor ground and in flight customer service
Poor ground customer service. 1h 15min delay, no apology whatsoever, no acknowledgement. Poor flight attendant customer service, e.g. skipping rows at service, failing to acknowledge customers, etc.
The worst flight ever
The worst flight ever , please don’t book your flight in this company
Delays made us miss connecting trips and loose the money we'd spent on those tickets.
We took Air Serbia from New York to Belgrade on June 12, 2025. The plane was filled with loud, small boisterous children who completely disrupted all around with their noise. The food was awful and cold. The breakfast was a hard- boiled egg and a piece of dry toast. The bathrooms were swimming in urine and filth by the end of the trip.
The return trip home was worse. This time in addition to many loud children, we had three criers constantly screaming- two of these in seats directly in front of us. In the nine-hour trip they were only quiet when they slept for stints of fifteen minutes. The food was still poor quality and cold. The bathrooms once again turned into a hit and miss option for the boys and men and the floors were slippery with urine. Add to that, this June 24th flight was supposed to leave to go back to New York to leave at 7:45am Belgrade time and get to JFK by 11:50 the next day. We had delay after delay with no reason given. The plane didn't leave until after 12:00pm- we got to New York at 3:30 the next day and had to wait on the tarmac itself for an hour for an empty parking gate from which to unload. We left the train close to 5:00 leaving us (Leslie, Bruce, and Eli) no time to go through passport checks, grab our bags, go through customs, and catch a taxi over to connect with our plane that was flying from Laguardia at 4:49, check in to get bags checked and go through security to make our flights. Thus, we had to pay for a hotel room and food in New York and leave the next morning. Luke, although staying at JFK, was no better off. He still was not able to passport check, get bags and boarding passes, and then go through security to catch his flights at 3:55.
Neither of the flights offered us a pay back or credit, and we had to swallow the costs of those fights in addition to getting a flight for Luke at 9:00 that night to get him home and the other three of us could not find a flight that would get us home until the next day- ag.ain not refunds or credits. So we had to pay addition costs to fly ourselves back home. We will never fly Air Serbia again, nor recommend the airline to any of our friends or family
Had 4 flights with this company
Had 4 flights with this company. Free checked in baggage and free food on the flight. The value for money is insanely good. The planes are abit dated and worn but for the price and what you get. It's a great deal compared to other awful airlines like spirit.
They lost my 2 bags and refuse to do anything, im reporting the authorities.
I had a terrible experience flying with Air Serbia. My baggage was lost, and since then, the level of customer service has been nonexistent. I've tried multiple times to get an update through phone calls, emails, and even reaching out via social media but have received no helpful response or resolution.
What made the situation worse was the complete lack of accountability. Air Serbia's ground handling partner (Groundforce) was just as unhelpful. When I called to follow up, the operator refused to give me her name or any reference for the call. That’s unacceptable when dealing with a lost baggage case involving personal belongings and time-sensitive travel.
It’s been 15 days, and I still have no idea where my luggage is. No updates. No follow-up. No basic courtesy from the airline or their partners.
This experience has been incredibly frustrating, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before flying with Air Serbia; especially if you value your belongings and expect even minimal customer service.
Worst airline I ever used
Worst airline I ever used. I don’t fly with air Serbia often but every time I did the flight was late. London to Belgrade we left 25 minutes late and Belgrade to London we left hour and 20 minutes late. Why is it that Air Serbia flights can never leave on time??!! And this is not the worst thing. What is frustrating is the air Serbia staff at the airport. Very unprofessional, rude with no communication skills or compassion towards the passengers. During those extra hour and 20 minutes that we had to wait not once they made an announcement at the gate to at least apologise for the delay if they couldn’t say what’s going on and how long we have to wait. Instead just silence and no communication from them which is very unprofessional. Finally when we started boarding the woman at the gate that was checking the tickets was very rude, unpleasant with no customer service skills. She asked me for a visa, I showed her my e visa, I was very tired so no, I didn’t smile but I never said a bad word to her and she started telling me I have a bad attitude and how there’s no need for it!!! Excuse me!! After 3 hours of waiting at the gate and changing the gate, people are tired and nervous, the kids are screaming and shouting, she has the time to start the argument with me for no reason about my attitude( when actually she was the one with bad attitude) instead of doing her job professionally with a smile and maybe apologising for the long delay! We are the customers and paid the money to you, not the other way around! And you never know what the people are going through or what might happen to them, so shouldn’t make any comments like this and should just say have a nice flight! Honestly I was shocked and told her that she actually has an attitude to which she continued that she doesn’t that I do, I just proceeded to the plane in disbelief. Like she is working at the flea market and not for Airline company! I will never fly with Air Serbia again and several people sitting around me at the gate said the same thing. Air Serbia you need to get your self together and seriously consider who’s working for you at the airport and give these people a serious customer service training! Sort out all your technical issues and try to be on time!! On the other side the pilots and the staff in the plane were ok, but ground staff and organisation just shocking!!

AirSerbia
On May 20, 2025, despite holding valid tickets for flight JU537, I was left stranded at Athens Airport, along with a disabled companion, Mr. Miloš Rakas. There was no staff, no check-in, no assistance, and no contact whatsoever. I am a terminally ill patient, registered for an organ transplant, and a dual citizen of Switzerland and Serbia. What happened was not just neglect – it was a violation of multiple international laws: •Montreal Convention (Art. 19) • UN CRPD (Articles 9, 20, 21) • EU Regulations 261/2004 & 1107/2006 • Swiss FOCA/SECO regulations •Serbian consumer and aviation laws •Greek HCAA safety protocol •Etihad’s liability under UAE Civil Aviation Law I demand: • A formal written apology • A full refund and compensation • A new ticket with full medical accommodations If ignored, I will proceed with: • Legal action in Switzerland, Serbia, Greece, and the EU • Formal complaints to UN bodies, EU agencies, and national aviation authorities • A global media release to over 270,000 verified recipients This is not a complaint. This is a reckoning. Mr. Bojan Lazić
Shame and Slame
In December 2024, I purchased a round-trip ticket from Chicago (CHI), USA to Belgrade (BEG), Serbia for my wife as an anniversary gift. I paid extra to reserve seat 15A. However, during online check-in on Sunday night, my wife was informed that her seat had been changed to 24K, despite having a confirmation email showing 15A as the selected seat.
We immediately contacted AirSerbia and were told we had to file a claim for a refund. No explanation or concern was offered about why that particular seat had been selected, nor was any effort made to accommodate her needs. At the airport, the check-in agent dismissed the issue, stating, “It happens all the time due to aircraft configuration.” However, based on our research, AirSerbia operates only one aircraft model on the CHI–BEG route—the same aircraft that was recently promoted as their newest and most advanced. Furthermore, upon boarding, my wife saw that seat 15A was occupied by another passenger, suggesting that the aircraft configuration had not changed at all, and the explanation was merely an excuse.
Unfortunately, other passengers shared similar frustrations—many complained about poor aircraft condition and indifferent service. To make matters worse, the flight was delayed. Boarding, originally scheduled for 6:00 PM, began at 7:43 PM, with departure finally taking place at 9:05 PM—over two hours late. Instead of making up time during the flight, the plane arrived more than an hour later than the typical flight duration, totaling around 15 hours of travel time for a non-stop flight.
These issues—seat changes without notice or valid justification, delays, and dismissive service—are deeply concerning. One passenger, mother with two small children, even joked, bitterly, that their luggage was lost on a direct flight from CHI to BEG. A direct route should be a privilege, yet the level of professionalism and care provided by AirSerbia on this route is alarmingly low. If this continues, I worry that the CHI–BEG connection may be discontinued altogether.
I hope this feedback leads to serious consideration and meaningful improvements. At a minimum, AirSerbia should ensure flights depart on time, honor paid seat selections, and treat passengers with basic respect and empathy.
Different behavior towards passengers
Different behavior towards passengers. Some allowed a lot of luggage cabine, and I couldn't bring even small bag. They took it at check in.
Technical problems that czused us delay 2:50 h. With very little explanation.
