No customer service
Thought I'd buy my second pair of Altra's direct as they had the size and colour I wanted, Escalate 3s. Had free delivery. Shoes came with a fault, pinch in the toe box. Contacted customer service but the replies were intermittent or took days. After 11 days of uncertainty they decided I could return the shoes (not sure why a delay for a faulty product). Kicker was I needed to pay for the return even if it's faulty, and it's in Italy!! Wont be buying Altra again.
Not the same feel as before
As I have very wide feet I thought I would give Altra shoes another try having used them several years ago. I read they had been taken over by another company and have to say my new shoes are a disappointment. The toe box is nowhere near as roomy as they used to be. Looks like they’ve lost their way a bit now sadly.

Bunch of scammers....avoid!!! Ordered a pair and were too small paid £25 to send them back and they turned back up at my address....meanwhile I had ordered a bigger pair .....UPS left them in a bin and they've been removed so I've no trainers and I'm owed £280 but they're ignoring me now. 2 months have passed and heard nothing regardless how many times I try contact.
No refund
Identical to most of the other 1 star reviews, I tried to cancel my order and altra advised me to just refuse delivery. One month down the line I have no refund and £150 out of pocket, buy from altra with caution if you need to return or refund you have no chance. Avoid like the plague
Return policy and customer care
Unable to return a pair of wrong size shoes without calling to a help desk in Italy. You have to ship the package back to them with your own money and you have to choose the company to use. Altra will put zero effort to returns and the customer care is absolutely s*it. How altrarunning.eu treats their loyal customers is a big joke and they are basically spitting in your face. Holes in both sides: shocking service and products
I ordered the Altra Rivera Running Shoes - AW21 and the Altra Lone Peak 4.5. Both pairs of shoes how holes in both sides of both pairs after using them less for 100 miles each. The trend is basically brand new on both pairs.

READ THE SMALL PRINT. It isn't immediately clear when buying from UK web site that returns are to Italy. At considerable cost. Also, the women's Torin shape has changed and now no longer fits my shape of foot. Disappointing. Avoid buying direct whatever the discount.

Terrible Build Quality - Developed Holes Within 3 Months Of Purchase
Comfortable shoes but the worst build quality - they didn't even last 3 months before developing holes in the toe box.
Really not what you expect for a supposedly "quality" item that costs £130 a pair. Sadly I can only recommend you avoid Altra as a brand I look for an alternative that had better quality control / build quality.
Comfy shoes lacking quality and customer service
Comfy shoes. Many quality faults. Customer service is appalling. Holes in material at bend point after only 100 miles. Customer service refuses to offer any condolences or anything to keep me as a customer because I bought them at a retail store instead of direct from them. Would not even offer a discount off a future pair. Such a shame.

nice shoe. dont get a problem with delivery or you get in limbo with not shoes. got previous pairs i liked. ordered a new pair that never arrived. spent a week w the transporter getting nowhere. went to altra after that and now 6 weeks on no shoes and no refund.
Altra does not back their products
Altra does not back their products. Period. I purchased a pair of Torin 6 from a local running store. (I have worn Torins before--in fact I PRd a half in the Torin 3s and was always happy with their performance.) I ran a 10k in the Torin 6, however, and it took me two days to recover. The shoes are only slightly more supportive than a pair of house slippers. I could not return them to the store since I had worn them. I contacted Altra's customer service and was informed that they only back the Altra shoes that are purchased from their site. Under no circumstances are they going to back their shoes that are purchased from a store. This is wrong in two ways: first, it encourages people NOT to buy local, and second if you do buy from a store you have sacrificed any chance of refund if the shoes suck the life out for your feet and legs as the Torin 6s do. The final statement from the customer service agent said, "Thank you for your loyal support to Altra." Unfortunately for Altra, they make that hard to do.
Don't buy from them if you aren't sure…
Don't buy from them if you aren't sure about you size!! You don't get your money back. You have to pay for shipping when returning shoes. But they will never pay you back. After a month of my return being delivered, they did not contact me. They can see from shippment tracking that it is delivered, but customer service still doesn't help. I lost money i used for shoes and money for return shipping.

There is room for improvement. I ordered the Superior 5 and the Lone Peak All Wtr 2 from altrarunning.eu.
1) Altra should state more clearly that their shoes run a size too small, and that you should order (at least) a EU size larger. I noticed my mistake early, but when requesting to update the order (days before it had shipped!) customer service said this was not possible (???) and that I should just refuse delivery. This is neither honest(imo) nor really possible. Altra should improve their logistics system.
2) Their site should state whether or not the prices do not include VAT. This is not easy to see, and I got the wrong impression when the prices where in my local currency. Needless to say, I got a bill from customs for ~90Euro, on a ~310Euro order.
3) The Lone Peak All WTR 2 seem to cause me to pronate more than usual, as if the soles are "higher" on the outside than the inside.
4) Altra's shoe-finder feature on altrarunning.eu doesn't work. I love the idea. It shows me no shoes when applying filters. (Tested on Chrome Android and desktop.)
The All Wtr 2 will loose their water-proofness after just a couple weeks use. Otherwise they seem fine. I would order something else.
The Superior 5 was returned for a size larger - have not been tested at all.
Update: One pair of shoes where returned. Altra did not send me a size larger per my request, instead refunding the money. Unfortunately if I reorder the same shoe I will have to pay customs again... Effectively I have now paid more than 300 Euro for one pair of sneakers. According to Altra customer service, their logistics system does not allow for size-changes.
Some positives:
1) Their support do reply in a timely manner. (I did not like the "solutions" however..)
2) I did receive my order in a timely manner.
3) The "Original fit" shoes are ok to use for someone who prefer barefoot shoes - my pinky-toes are not getting "squished". I bought Altra shoes to give my feet a break while transitioning to barefoot shoes.
Apalingly bad customer service
Apalingly bad customer service. Had a pair of Lone Peak high sided walking shoe disintegrate after 200 miles. Retailer no longer stocks this brand (I wonder why!), so approached the company via website three times. No response. They do not care about their customers. Agree with others - don't buy from this company.

Shoes are brilliant but do not order directly from them. It says uk size when you order but they then send you us size. Then you have to pay to send them back. Terrible customer service. Would never buy from them again directly from altraeu Italy.
Not intentional scam, and poor customer support.
I have received a promo email from Altra - "Spend a minimum of €150 to get a FREE tee, cap, or trail gaiter!". I go to their site and add in the cart pair of shoes for a €160, I have choose a cap as a gift and did not finish the order. After two days I received an email from Altra that give me a 15% discount on my order - "If you make purchase within 48 hours you can get a 15% discount by entering the following code at the checkout:"
After I entered the code on the checkout I lost the gift, and the free delivery option, but the order was already made. Immediately contact the support with a request to cancel the order, and get my money back. After waiting a couple of days they ship my shoes and write me an email, that they cannot do anything about, and the system is automatic and advised me next time when I want to use the discount code, first contact them - "For this reason, if it should happen again, we advise you not to proceed with the purchase but to contact us first so that we can help you otherwise."
Overall the price difference between before and after the promo code is minimal. I have just lost a free hat from my lovely brand - Altra, but the problem is that the customer support had a couple of days to review my issue and cancel the order before it was sent, so I can order my shoes without the "discount", and ending up without any effort from Altra side to resolve my issue is very disappointing.

I ordered shoes from them, ordered the incorrect size as they were US sizes, and immediately sent a request to customer services to cancel the order. They replied they couldn't cancel the order and I would have to just refuse the order when it arrived to avoid returns charges. The courier doesn't let you do that. So you have to pay returns charges and ship the item back to Italy (from the UK), which is very expensive. Don't order from them, they don't mention these hidden charges anywhere!

After one month of waiting for the pair of shoes, I emailed the support and was given a tracking number that showed " item is not found". Sent several more emails, and got generalized answers, very rude, and ignorant. After a few emails and me demanding a refund, I was told that the item was lost in transit and they are willing to refund only 40 % back.
