Altra 7 Lone Peaks very poor design
Currently have tried 2 pairs of the Men’s Altra 7 Lone peaks with their new design and both have had busted seams at the sole around the big toes on both sides. I have used their previous versions with no problem so it appears to be a design flaw. The new design no longer has stronger fabric/leather where the shoe meets the sole, rendering it more vulnerable. Altra refuses to stand by the integrity of their shoes. I have dropped $600 on shoes the last 2 months. Each pair only lasting ~ 250km. The first pair that busted, I figured it was my fault. But when the second pair ripped, I had had enough. They say that they aren’t meant for hiking…. Strange considering they are trail runners….. I will no longer advocate for this brand in the hiking community. I am very disappointed since they were very good quality in the past. I have 411km left in my 3000km thru hike and now have to switch to a different brand of shoe. Most likely the brand Topos since they also have a wide toe box and have more grip to the soles.
scammers
Tried to cancel my order but was told I couldn’t and should refuse delivery. I called the delivery company and they said that I couldn’t do so and that refusing when delivery is attempted would incur fees. They are basically scammers. Ship the wrong size and then don’t allow you to cancel it.
I ordered the wrong size by mistake…
I ordered the wrong size by mistake (didn't realise they were in US, not UK). Contacted the customer service team on the same day, they replied back saying that my order cannot be cancelled or amended because it is already being shipped!! They advised me to "refuse delivery" which is impossible because I don't know what delivery partner is being used and parcels are usually dropped off at my door anyway, so I'll have no chance to refuse delivery. I'm never buying anything from that website ever again. Now I'm gonna have to pay for my own returns, while it could have been easily fixed by CANCELLING the order.
Two sizes too small 😡
I purchased a pair of Altra running shoes from Runningshoes.co.uk and they are far too small. I normally take a size 5, but always order 5.5 in my running shoes. These shoes aren’t even a size 5. I had to pay delivery for them and runningshoes.co.uk now want me to pay a further £4.99 to return them. They claim that all shoes are sized differently, but I’ve never come across any shoe that is so far away from the true size. As an online retailer, runningshoes.co.uk should be advising customers of this significant size difference and advise of the size to purchase to match the size you need. I won’t be buying anymore Altra shoes and won’t be using runningshoes.co.uk again.
Impossible to return, wrong size, unresponsive
The size is too small and it is impossible for months now to get a reply from Altra about how to return the shoes. On the website it is not possible to generate a return form. Altra does not pick up the phone and does not reply to emails. The sizing of Altra shoes is smaller than with other brands, my usual US size 10 does not fit me with Altra shoes. On their website their is no metion about that so I assumed size US10 would fit me. Overall a very bad experience, never again I will order here.
Comfortable but poor quality. Will last 6 months max
These are Some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. Great for wide feet/toe bed. However shockingly poor durability and customer service by Australian standards. I have a pair of $280 lone peak hiking trail runners and these lasted 6 months before coming apart at the sides on both feet . Customer service was responsive but as most of these reviews note , refused to replace the shoes under warranty . Called it ‘wear and tear’. The waterproofing also lasted one month. Expect them to last 3 months with heavy use or 6 months with moderate use.
Delaminating Soles …
I bought two pairs of Altra Riviera shoes, I use them solely indoors at an office. After only seven months of less than 100 miles walking, the soles started to delaminate. The retailer suggested super glue. Altra
declared this to be normal wear and tear. I will not spend any money at the retailer or buy any Altra products again.
Purchased Altra ALOA7R78305 on 6 Aug
Purchased Altra ALOA7R78305 on 6 Aug, light use elliptical, light running, weightlifting. By early December forefoot fabric is pulled apart on both shoes. Company offers no refund or discount on future shoes. Would not buy or recommend
Design Defect. Poor Quality. Terrible customer service. Avoid Bran
Bought Altra Escalante 3 shoe. After 3 months of light use (less than 10 miles) toe box collapsed, making shoe unusable. I have found other reviewers/ users who have had the same issue. Obvious design defect. Brand denies defect and claims wear and tear. They will not exchange, refund, or credit. Buy Altra shoes if you want to throw away your money.
horrible quality shoes but their phony…
horrible quality shoes but their phony warranty is worse. I have shoes less than 80 walking miles and the inside of the shoe ripped and has holes. They say it is not a warranty issue and I'm out of luck......
Don't buy their shoes there are other options for zero drop and better quality. It took me 4 pairs of crappy shoes to finally say enough is enough.
Bought a pair from their online store…
Bought a pair from their online store in the UK. Return #8000002005 Ordered the wrong size. Turns out you have to send them back to Italy as per their return policy. They have refused to pay the import duty TWICE, so I cannot return the item. Their customer service is terrible. It has cost me more than half the cost of the order to ship twice. It is my belief they try their hardest not to let you return their products so they do not have to issue a replacement or refund. AVOID THIS BRAND.

I have converted…Ultra shoes are the best fit for my feet personally! I am only super disappointed in the colors. The vibrant colors also helped me get excited about putting them on and hitting the trail. We all have struggles and every lil bit helps. Plz bring us some inspiring color pallet! Other than that…AMAZING SHOES!!!!
Holey toe in shoes only a few months old
A pair of running shoes only 4 months old gets a hole in the fabric of the toe and they offer 50% off my next purchase because " this is the resolution we can offer for a minor issue like yours that may have been caused by wear." Poor quality, poor customer service. I won't be making use of the discount!
Do not buy Altra shoes
Although the concept of the shoes is good, the quality is very poor and the customer service is some of the worst I have ever encountered. I will never buy another pair of shoes from Altra.
Absolutely terrible customer service
Absolutely terrible customer service. FedEx delivered my package to the wrong address, this was confirmed with a photo. The company says they put in a request with Fed ex but Fed ex says they did not. I’m stuck in the middle, have spent over $300 on two pairs of shoes I don’t have. Both Altra and Fed Ex tell me there is nothing they can do. I have now taken the issue up with my bank. I have never had an issue like this not resolved by the company but they have been extremely unhelpful and not concerned about the consumer.
Shoes did not fit
Shoes did not fit, returned. Three weeks later I received no contact and no refund. Called and was told company has a separate branch which handles refunds, and it takes a minimum of 3 weeks, and I should call back if I don't receive a refund. I posted a review which was rejected because it mentioned Zappos, which refunds you instantly (they sell Altra shoes). I still do not have a refund.
Good shoes, pity about the company...
Had a problem with very thin soles that wore through to the underlying material after only 62 miles. Tried four times to get some sort of response from Altra - nothing. This was over four weeks (7 September-6 October), each of my messages was noted as being recieved. Like the shoes alot but not impressed with the parent company.
As others noted, all models' cushioning doesn't last and suffer the infamous sidewall/sole split occurs 2-250mi.
As others have noted, the sidewall and sole splits around 200mi of use, no matter the model. I sent images of four pairs, Torin 4.5, 5.0, Olympus 4, 4.5 for a possible warranty claim.
Despite Altra's laughable claims of getting 3-600mi out of any of their shoes, expect around 2-250 before they're pancake flat (your achilles and knees will tell you if you don't track mileage).
A love-hate shoe. Great design, stability, weight, performance but the least durable of anything else on the market. And pricey at that.
Nobody there...
I tried to contact them after a newly bought pair of Altra Torins started to fall apart prematurely. After four weeks, four different e-mails and trying to call them numerous times: no response. At. all.
Bottom line: they do exist, they do actually ship shoes (eventually), but don't expect any aftersales or other form of contact with a human being.
Return nightmare!
If you are buying Altra trainers from UK, be aware of delivery is from Italy.
And if you want to return, you need to pay the delivery fee to Italy.
I ordered 4 pairs but none of them were for me so I returned by Parcelforce and it costed me £56!!!
Then the nightmare started. The custom clearances took ages and when finally released it, the warehouse people refused the acceptance, which caused me huge anxieties. Luckily the email customer service was quite good to be fair, they got my goods back from the depot.
But it took another 2 weeks to get refund by chasing them consistently.
I would not recommend this service unless Altra changes free return in the UK. Good luck!
