Not helpful despite my circumstances
I booked a car rental from Schipol due to a family emergency. Just as I was about to travel I realised my driving licence expired that week (driving licences last for 10 years so not something you check regularly...especially not when you have an awful family emergency). Auto Europe did nothing to help me. I was charged in full and not even an option to defer the car rental (I will now need to travel to the Netherlands regularly). I dont see why I could not have atleast been offered a voucher to return for another date.

They don't answer their phone and just keep you hanging. Not even provide info about the queue.

What a scam
What a scam, took an insurance with Auto Europe only to be told by Goldcar Bordeaux this insurance is only between myself and Auto Europe, Goldcar then pressure you to take another insurance with them or take 1100eu out of your bank account, would be nice and courtesy if this was CLEARLY indicated in terms and conditions and not in tiny writing on the bottom of the email... great scam 2 insurances paid for a total of 325eu.

Rented a car in Dubai via Auto Europe from AVIS. Dubai has three terminals (km's apart from eachother). Auto Europe misinformed me about possiblility to pick car up at other terminal. Avis still blocks the retainer on creditcard after 20 days. Everything else was fine.
No help outside office hours
Missed a condition hidden in the contract. Tried contacting them, but were not available outside office hours

Super Cover. Why a Police report for a small damage?
I am a long time customer with autoeurope and until now all rentals (at least once a year) have been positive.
Sadly the experiences can vary depending on the rental company etc. but like I said until now all has been well (rented at Alamo, Guerin, Centauro Herz etc.).
Portal and booking works fine, so no issue there, but now the less positive part and the reason why I do not rate it 5 stars. The customer support is non existent. I have been trying to contact them to get an important question answered but I do not receive any reply to my emails and on the phone I get almost no usable information at all.
So I will be posting my questions here hoping to get a good clear response from Autoeurope.
Here uit goes.
The Super Cover package (which I often take) has some demands for which the following are crucial:
Police report.
This is clear in case of an accident etc. But if my Car is dented due to my own clumsiness etc. how am I going to get a police report? The police wont write a report when I scratch my car in the parking garage or when I damage my rims/wheels parking.
When the glass is broken due to a stone from the road or a damaged tyre etc.
How will it be handled if you are not able to acquire a police report because the police refuses one for such futile stuff?
The other demand is that a damage report from the rental company is required, which is more than fair. But some rental companies just don't provide that, they just state that there is damage and the value of the damage in the invoice. How will such a situation be resolved? I know that the rental company is legally obligated to provide this report, but what if they do not and yo need to catch your flight? And what are the requirements for this report?
Hopefully I get these questions answered so I can change my rating to 5 stars.
Update,
So after hoping I would get some response here since the other means of getting in touch with customer support have been useless, I decided to change my rating to 2 stars. Until now I have had good experience with Auto Europe but so it seems that has been kind of a lucky break as no issues occurred, but I believe the true value of an organisation lies in how they solve problems, since I havent been successful to get some simple questions answered I must conclude that the customer support is terrible lacking, I will be looking to alternatives for my future rentals as I do not want to risk having no support when in conflict with shady rental company's.
Sad because all the rest is kind of OK and the portal even very good.
Update 2:
I finally got an answer which answers almost all my questions.
The only question that is not answered in my opinion is the situation where you damage the car yourself, let's say you backup into a wall in the parking garage and bump it by accident, the wall is not damaged but the car is (scratches etc.) no third party is involved so from the answer provided here I understand no police report is needed, is this correct?
And if the rental company refuses to provide a detailed damage report and just mentions damage on the receipt it will not be an issue? Auto Europe (or the insurance) will request the info at the rental company? The only downside will be the delay in the refund?
Did I understand this correctly?
I am trying to get this clear on trust-advisor so other customers will be informed also, allot of people read these reviews and some surely will have the same questions.
Regarding the review and rating.
The fact that I got a clear answer with a good explanation for the delay and taking into account all my previous experiences with Auto Europe, for me that is enough for a 4 star rating, not 5 because of the poor response to emails and phone.
Please improve on that area and I will have no issue in giving a 5 star rating.

Bad customer service
Recent we had bad experience with InterRent/GoldCar. Contacted custom service to talk about it, The customer service personal was really very hard to speak to. She sat simply in the shoes of InterRent said only small amount people had bad experiences despite that there are tons of people had the same bad experiences (being cheated by GoldCar) reported. At InterRent desk they simply told too many lies. Firstly, we ere told the extra insurance cost 125 Euro, eventually it was more than 170 Euros. Also for a tank petrol deposit, we were told 130 Euros and got only 89 Euros back. Don't understand why AutoEurope doesn't want even to listen to the complaints and do something.

This company is a scam
This company is a scam. They cost me 340 euro. No car. 70 euro taxi from Bangkok to Koh Chang. Reservation number is: EU5740676. I did pay everything in advance. When I came at the desk at de car rental they told me I had to pay more but my credit card was at the max so I told if I could pay cash. They gave no car, I waited there for more than an hour and had to order an Taxi. This was an expensive lesson. Auto Europe Nederland? If it is based in Nederland I would have put legal action against it but its based in Germany. The number is Ok I have I long mail trail of you. Its only some years ago. As long as I live I will warn against your company. Never got my money back. So look in your old system, its there. Just checked, Auto Europe is still German. I checked my email trail they send an answer that within 48 hours cancellation there will be no refund? Cancellation? I was not waiting for the Bus at the car rental, wanted my reservated car and if not get it a cancellation. Seems logical that if they dont give a car the reservation is cancelled you get your money back.
After all this time still no refund. Don't listen to the reaction of them. It's all blah blah. I could enclose all Information because I still have it but they won't do anything about it. Keep away from them. Use a National rental car Firm, no crap from a another country without business in your country.
Hey they found my reservation in the system :-) . Yes there was another blocking on my card from another car company. I had to pay a small amount. By no way, I had other cards too, cash etc. I could pay that. No service, paid extra 70 euro for taxi. Service could be provided. I could have called my card company to raise the credit card amount.
I Give up :-(
Please people go to a trusted rental company....
Skip companies like this. They are cheap but there is a big reason for this.

Worst experience with a car hire ever!
Unfortunately my experience with Auto Europe has been very negative.
I had to cancel a couple of car reservations due to covid restrictions. I have been communicated contrasting refund timelines from the customer service. Initially they stated 5-10 working days, then 20 working days and finally 30-45 working days!
Also, they stated that for consistent refunds like mines (they owe me a total of more than EUR 1900,00!!) I have to wait longer than usual. Honestly in this hard corona times I would have done the opposite in case a prioritization was needed: higher refunds should be given higher prio!
Another version of the story was that due to the huge amount of cancellations they are receiving due to covid my refunds would have been delayed!
Last update on one of my two cancelled vouchers is that the amount has not been charged to me. That is completely wrong, I showed them evidence that the payment went through - I sent them on the credit card statement - but still, after almost a week, no feedback from the accounting department yet.
I am really concerned. My experience with another booking website is 1 working day to have the amount refunded on the credit card...I can prove it!!
It's unbelievable how such a big company is leaving customers with no money for such a long time when actually money are needed to pay bills and food more than any other time!
