This company is a joke

This company is a joke. I reserved an apartment I could not view until I paid agency fees and deposit. When I viewed the apartment it was a lot different than I had anticipated the bathroom kitchen and spare room were really small. I made Alba aware that the apartment would not be suitable for a year's contract and that I would only need a few months while I looked for a more suitable apartment. She said that was fine and I could move out any time as long as gave 1 month's notice. Then she asked for her fees and she charged me 6 months agency fee which meant I had paid fees to Spot A Home and this fraudulent company Barcelona-Home. In total, I paid a 1700 deposit 1350 fee to Barcelona-Home. Spot A Home is as bad I booked through them and paid them 2136 euro and they are not returning my calls either. To make things worse the bed in the main room stank of urine and I had to sleep on the sofa bed in the lounge which was really uncomfortable . On the corner an old petrol station was also full of immigrants staying in tents. I saw people getting robbed on a few occasions and I also was approached by 2 men while walking home one night. I would like anyone who has been mistreated or defrauded by this company to come over as a witness as I will not be letting this go I have lived in Barcelona for 15 years and it's these types of companies which is pushing all the rental prizes up like Airbnb and they have to be taught a lesson . Be aware of Alba she looks like a nice little lady but she is far from it. She told me I would get my excess fee paid back plus my deposit. She has not answered her phone to me or my legal team. But she will have to now the law is involved. So stay well clear folks these guys are gangsters . Also in Spain it is illegal to charge the tenant fees for the stay this is the responsibility of the landlord.

Landlords avoid Barcelona Home / Propietarios eviten Barcelona Home

Barcelona Home oversaw the management of my flat for a duration of three years. Initially, operations ran smoothly. However, over time, they began leasing the flat to platforms such as Airbnb for brief intervals, all without informing me in advance.

It happens that specific Airbnb customers complained about inadequate air conditioning in the apartment. For this reason, Airbnb refunded them €400, a sum deducted from my income. Barcelona Home did not assume any of it. This incident serves as just one illustration of their negligent behaviour. From this incident, confidence gots worse, and, at the end, they did not even reply my messages.

Furthermore, they neglect the maintenance and upkeep of the apartment's contents. I found significant issues such as a swollen door (which I had to replace), missing linens and glassware, as well as unexpectedly high electricity bills. These costs were not passed on to the tenants (or assumed by Barcelona Home), but paid by myself. I guess this is for fear of the possible negative reviews from tenants.

In short, if you are a landlord, I would advise against engaging with Barcelona Home. They exhibit a lack of accountability and responsibility.I strongly recommend opting for more reputable and professional property management companies to avoid similar inconveniences and financial burdens.

Barcelona Home gestionó mi piso durante tres años. Inicialmente, todo fue bien, sin problemas. Sin embargo, con el tiempo, comenzaron a usar plataformas como Airbnb por tiempos muy breves, todo ello sin avisarme previamente.

Unos clientes de Airbnb se quejaron del mal funcionamiento del aire acondicionado. Por este motivo, Airbnb les devolvió 400 euros, una suma que Barcelona Home descontó de mis ingresos, sin asumir ninguna responsabilidad. Este incidente es solo una ilustración de su comportamiento negligente. A partir de este incidente, la confianza empeoró y, al final, ni siquiera respondían a mis mensajes.

Además, han descuiado, de forma notable, el mantenimiento y la conservación del contenido del apartamento. Me he encontrado problemas importantes, como una puerta hinchada por una inundación (que he tenido que reemplazar), ropa de cama, cubertería y cristalería faltante, así como facturas de electricidad inesperadamente altas. Ni que decir tiene que estos costes no han sido asumidos ni por los los inquilinos (ni por Barcelona Home), sino que los he pagado yo mismo. Supongo que tenían miedo de las posibles críticas negativas de los inquilinos.

En resumen, si eres propietario, te aconsejo que no alquiles con Barcelona Home. Desde mi punto de vista, no son una empresa responsable y no asumen ningún costo que, al final, es asumido por el propietario. Recomiendo encarecidamente optar por empresas de alojamiento temporal más profesionales para evitar inconvenientes y cargas financieras sustanciales.

Don't recommend, bad business practices

A lot of sketchy business practices to charge the tenants extra.

For example backdating the start date to charge for various days before the keys are handed over, adding a cleaning fee even though this was never done, charging extra cost for more utilities used but not paying back the difference when the bill is lower, and making up damages to avoid paying back the deposit.

The worst part is that they ignore you as soon as there are problems. In my case it will soon be 3 months since I moved out, still haven't gotten the deposit back or seen any proof of a damage that could justify it. Impossible to get answers because they ignore all attempts to contact them and settle the issues

Very unprofessional and unserious business.

Canceled my booking for no reason

It was the worst experience I ever had when booking an apartment. I booked an apartment and paid the deposit by paypal. After one week I got a refund without any explanation.
When I emailed them this was their answer

''We are very sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but the landlord of the property you booked in Carrer de les Carolines, 6, Barcelona has informed us that the last tenants have been massively horrendous. He has had to repair the windows, buy a new boiler, paint the house again, buy new bedsheets and mattresses, everything was too bad.

Because of that bad experience, he has informed us that he is not willing to accept any booking whose price is lower than 2300 € per month, and deposit 1700 €.

As we cannot ask for that amount of an already confirmed booking, we have decided to immediately refund you through Paypal''

What a joke!

Very shady company -- take your business elsewhere.

Very shady company. I would give them 0 stars if I could. After one initial reply to my email, they completely disappeared. A 100% deposit on a 1-month rent? Fine. But don't say something is available and then leave every email unanswered. If you call them, 100 out of 100 times it goes to voicemail asking you to email them. Whatsapp? Automated reply asking you to send them an email.
I even asked my wife and some friends to send inquiries. Nothing. Not one reply in 10 days.

Between now and August, I was looking for 8 different accommodations with various lengths of stays in the city. Their loss. I just feel sorry for the owners who work with them.

Terrible service

Attempted to book two different apartments. The first one I paid for and got no reply for multiple days. When I contacted them, they claimed it was double booked and said i could request a refund if I wanted to. I got my money back and booked a second apartment, within a day they told me they would confirm it. After not getting any response for multiple days I sent them an email and they claimed that the apartment was not available again.

Very sketchy company with terrible costumer service, I would advice people to book their apartments through different websites as Barcelona-home refused to go through with the booking.

Responsive until you have problems

Had a good experience with the company until the last few weeks of my long term stay. It took them around 3 weeks to organise bed bug fumigation as the communication was so bad (ignoring texts and calls). Due to this delay in treatment, the fumigation cost us 100 euros more. At the end of the tenancy, the costs deducted from our deposit had 21% tax applied to them (including the fumigation fee??) and so the refund we received was significantly less than expected. When we queried this, we were met with ignored texts, phone calls and emails.

Sketchy company

Unfortunately, I’d like to echo a lot of what I’ve read here. We had a 6 month stay with Barcelona Home and while some aspects of the stay were lovely, the company turned out to be very shady. They asked for a considerable deposit, and then were very deceitful about how much they were withholding. We got about €700 fewer than we were supposed to get due to a bunch of last minute, nonsensical charges. Our agent, Alba, also disappeared once we started inquiring about what happened to our money. Little we can do now except write a bad review and hope no one else falls into this trap. We’re exploring legal action, but we’re not sure how much we’ll be able to do as foreigners.

*I see Barcelona Home has responded. I’d just like to clarify that it is the account manager at Barcelona Home withholding our money, and the account manager at Barcelona Home ignoring us, not any landlord.

Do not use Barcelona-Home at all costs

*EDIT* I can see Barcelona-Home has replied to this review asking if they can help but yet they have been ignoring me and my housemates emails and messages for over a month!*
Do not use Barcelona-Home at all costs. Four of my classmates and I stayed in one of these accommodations during our six-month period studying in Barcelona and our dealings with Barcelona-Home has truly been a sour experience.
The company representative, Alba, who was responsible for our accommodation, would selectively ignore us if we had some issue or needed some help.
But the final straw for me writing this review is this company scamming us out of our deposit.
We had a pest control issue in the apartment, and sought help from Alba. However, Alba proceeded to ask us for a large amount of money in cash the following day, which we did not have. It is also the responsibility of the landlord to pay for pest control. We let Alba know that it was not possible to get this much money in 24 hours, and struck a deal that we would pay half-and-half for the pest control and Alba accepted.
For the next 3 weeks, Alba continually ignored our requests to carry out the pest control, nobody came.
Alba continually ignored us until it was time to take the majority of our deposit from us with no explanation. When we inquired, she said the price of the pest control had gone up because we had DELAYED it, even though we had been requesting it for weeks by now. She also charged us for unnecessary VAT and items in the house that did not need to be replaced. To this day we are still asking for more information from her and are being ignored.
DO NOT use this company unless you want to be SCAMMED. Ignore all these positive reviews, they are written by interns which is quite biased. If you would like proof of anything I've written here, you can get in contact and I will send the proof. I did not want to write such a review, but we have been given no other choice.

Terrible service

Terrible service. First, they boldly lied to my face about the property management. I explicitly asked them if the property manager returned the deposit promptly. They told me she was wonderful, they had been working with her for a long time, the deposit would be returned immediately. In reality, the manager was absolutely unresponsive and it took me 2 months to get my deposit back. I don't believe they did not know about it. Second, when I contacted them about these issues, they simply did not respond to any of my messages. As soon as they got my fee, they just vanished. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I have been using Barcelona-home for all my vacations and I am so glad to leave my review for Barcelona-home. It was a good time in Barcelona we spent around 20 days in an apartment near to the beach which was quite convenient for us. The apartment has all its amenities which is the best for our comfort and the host was so much polite and the agent who handled me throughout the booking was polite and friendly. I have rented an apartment with this company Barcelona-home and it was a quite good experience for me since I came for Erasmus studies for 6 months and the apartment was clean and good, the owner was polite and we got two keys set as we demanded. Good work by Barcelona-home team thanks to all.
