Excellent service from Jay at Boon Brokers

Excellent service from Jay Blackaby, regular updates and found the best mortgage offer for us. There was no pressure to go for additional services with them unless it made sense price wise. Very happy with this fee free service and would highly recommend it to first time buyers as he went through the whole process with us clearly.

Very bad experience

Very bad experience. I initially used Boon Brokers for my mortgage. At first, everything went extremely well, Kathryn was nice and seemed to have my best interests at heart. We had done the whole search process, and Santander ended up being the most cost-effective mortgage for me. As legals were going on for the flat I was purchasing, I compared the rate I had to comparethemarket.com, which showed that Santander's mortgage rate had decreased, Kathryn was not keeping up to date with the rate changes, so I had to check regularly to let her know so she could get the rate on my mortgage adjusted. When looking at comparethemarket.com, there were a range of mortgage lenders offering a better rate than Santander. I spoke to Kathryn about it, and she said that the other lenders would not lend to me because of my credit score, which was only good at the time due to a lack of credit history. I then decided to reach out to the lenders that allowed me to speak to them without a broker and managed to secure a mortgage with Lloyds at a rate 0.4% cheaper than Santander at the time. Only then did Kathryn think about reaching out to other lenders. I definitely do not recommend using Boon Brokers. This experience happened in October 2024 not 2025.

It's important for all readers to know that borrowers should refrain from using comparison sites for the purpose of accessing mortgage products as they are unlikely to source the most suitable products based on the client's exact circumstances. This is why, at Boon Brokers, we use sophisticated whole-of-market software to compare thousands of products in real-time.

Furthermore, when our expert brokers search for suitable products, the headline 'interest rate' is not the only consideration. Our experts also review many other product features such as product/booking fees, early repayment charges, portability, etc. If Kathryn recommended a mortgage product, we are confident that it was the most suitable for you on the market at the time based on all product features.

Lastly, we regularly scan our active mortgage applications on a weekly basis to ensure that all clients proceed with the most suitable mortgage product upon completion.

Excellent guidance from start to finish!

We recently used Boon to find the best deal on our mortgage, home and life insurance for our first home purchase and the service we received was outstanding. Special thanks to Jay, Lee and Luke who did a great job guiding us through the entire process and explaining everything clearly and in a way that was easy to understand!

We initially chose Boon because they came highly recommended by my brother and a friend, both of whom had also used their services. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again for any future house move. Thanks so much guys — we’re happily settling into our new home and really appreciate all your help along the way!

Mortgage capacity review

I needed a mortgage capacity review in an hurry for a final settlement in court, so I decided to give Boon mortgage brokers a call, I was greeted by a very pleasant ,professional, jacob who guided me through the whole process. The whole thing I thought was going to be daunting was surprisingly very pleasant and jacob was there for me in every step, I can't thank them enough and would definitely recommend to anyone in the same situation THANK YOU to all at Boon especially jacob x

This is the 3rd time we have used Boon brokers for assistance with remortgaging our property. We had worked with Lucinda on the last 2 occasions and she has always being efficient and helpful during the process and answered any questions we had. Mortgage arrangement .

I am in the process of using Boon Brokers to find a mortgage and in particular dealing with Kathryn Hailes. She has been extremely efficient and helpful. Also knowledgeable about the type of mortgage required for the part ownership purchase I am pursuing (Home Ownership for Long Term Disabled). I believe she has secured a good deal for me....Good news when on a low income.

Exceptional service, completely free of charge!

This was the second time that Lucinda from Boon Brokers has helped us to Remortgage our property, and once again we couldn't be happier with the guidance we received.

Every question we had was answered both quickly and effectively, and the fact that her advice saved us a significant amount of money whilst being completely free of charge cannot be ignored!

Wrong product and unnecessary fees

This was my first experience of a remortgage and it wasn’t a great one. It took a very long time, almost 3 months. I incurred unnecessary solicitor fees as I was told to instruct a solicitor however, I wasn’t informed fees were included as part of the remortgage so I didn’t need to get my own. I have also ended up with the wrong product, so I’m now stuck with an interest only mortgage rather than a repayment as they clicked the wrong button. And the term is for 12 years rather than 10. After I pointed out the error in paperwork sent from the bank and found out it had completed I was told I had to phone up the bank to see if I could change it as they could no longer do anything their end. I couldn’t change it as it was now an active mortgage, so I have to wait a minimum of 6 months before I can change anything. I’m not happy and disappointed as it will affect other aspects of my finances in the future.

Firstly, we are obviously disappointed to receive your 1-star review, which conflicts with our other 1,000+ reviews that are rated as Excellent.

We have noted your feedback and our QA team have reviewed the case file in full.

After reviewing the case file, we believe the 1-star review is extremely harsh. As per Trust Pilot's guidelines, a 1-star review is the worst possible review rating available, meaning that you believe the experience could not have been worse.

After reviewing the internal files, we can see that the Advice has been marked as Excellent internally and the packaging is at a good standard too, which is why the case was Offered in a standard turnaround time by your chosen lender. You also opted for our Fee-Free service, meaning that you were not charged by your broker at any stage.

In your review, you mention unnecessary solicitor fees. We can see Free Legals was selected on your Illustration, Application and official Mortgage Offer, but you chose to instruct your own independent solicitor. This was not advised by your broker, as the lender's Free Legals solicitor processed the case free of charge. It is a shame that you incurred this unnecessary fee from your own solicitor. However, we obviously can't take responsibility for your actions with this instruction.

Regarding your product selection, it appears that Interest-Only was consistently showcased on the paperwork throughout your case. Your adviser sent you an illustration with the Interest-Only deal prior to the application, so we must dispute the claim that your adviser "clicked the wrong button". A Mortgage Offer was then issued on this basis. Interest-Only is by far the most commonly advised product for your chosen transaction, so I understand why it was advised by your broker.

After you expressed a preference for Repayment, we can see that your adviser urged you to contact the lender directly to have this amended. It's a shame that you need to wait 6 months to action this switch. However, in the mean-time, your product allows overpayments, which gives you the ability to reduce the capital balance by the same sum as a Repayment deal would. Just be sure that you read the paperwork with regards to your maximum overpayment facility.

Overall, just to re-iterate, we believe the 1-star review is harsh and not at all reflective of the experience that you received. Your mortgage product is very competitive in the market and was secured well by your broker.
