Appalling Customer Service

I have held a Britline account for 17 months and find the customer service to be amongst the worst I have known for a bank. It is frequently impossible to speak to anyone on the English speaking service and the response to online messages can take 3 days

Couldn't be more helpful

We had some queries, mainly over the choice of accounts which we needed and Sophie was very patient, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The phone was answered promptly which is also a definite plus compared to UK banks.

Excellent customer service ⭐️

Just spent 30 minutes with a delightful and knowledgeable chap by the name of Clym who guided me through sorting access to my online account. He also gave me valuable advice on managing my account so all in all, I am very happy with the service I have received and a big thumbs up to Clym ☺️

Very Satisfied

I had Britline Accounts for 18 years for my Maison Secondaire. During this period all of their agents proved so co-operative and helpful. I cannot single one one out as all were very professional and all spoke fluent English.
Having sold the house, I have now closed my account and my only criticism would be the time it took to complete the closure. All of my accounts were 'immediate access' and yet it took over 30 days to finalise matters.
That said, I would recommend Britline.

Text book customer service.

I had been hacked! I called Britline, after 2 rings the phone was answered, by a human being! Alexander was very professional, immediately cancelled my card, ordered a new one and explained the other things I should do to protect myself. He was polite, professional and knowledgeable, it was a text book example of what great customer service should be. Thank you.

I have had continued difficulty using…

I have had continued difficulty using my debit card for online transactions. I have ample funds in place to pay for these purchases. i can withdraw cash and use my card when i am present. But I have had a litany of problems for 3 months when trying to order anything online. I am reduced to getting my husband to pay and then give him cash. It is ridiculous. Every time we contact Britline we are told it is fixed, and every time we find it isn't. It shouldn't be this difficult. These are straight forward transactions. Today i tried to use Paypal but once again the payment via my bank funds was blocked. I have now decided to withdraw the bulk of my funds, and open an account elsewhere for the majority of my transactions in the future. Been with then 20 years and frankly it has never improved from the basic.

We are sorry to hear that you are have been experiencing difficulties making payments online using your debit card.

All debit cards have personalised limits for your security - these limits were agreed with you when your card contract was put into place, but can be modified to suit your requirements at any time.

Most online payments are subject to double factor authentification ... we always recommend using SécuriPass via the Ma Banque app as the best way to validate your online payments. SécuriCode is the second option offered.

Our system can also identify certain transactions as potentially fraudulent - in these instances, you will receive an SMS to which you should respond to confirm whether you are at the origin of the payment or not.

These measures are all designed to protect you and your money.

We are of course sorry to hear that you are looking at alternative banking arrangements after 20 years of working together, but wish you the very best moving forwards.

Closure of account after 20+ years

Purchased our house in Normandy over 20 years ago and have always used CA and Britline. Always an excellent service and the closure of the account, due to selling the house, was simple and stress free.

A great seamless service in setting up French banking

My hubby and I moved to France in November 2024 year but decided to sort out our French banking arrangements before travel, to make the transition as seamless as possible. Our account manager, David Metcalfe was super from our first phone consultation, well before moving. Along with assisting in the set up of our current account, he helped with our car insurance, savings accounts and ensuring the process was simple. If we have any issues now, he is always prompt in his response, either by phone or email.
We would not hesitate to recommend CA Britline to anyone looking to move to France, as arranging French banking in advance, before arrival, makes life that much more straightforward. Having English speakers to navigate you is also great, for those who don't have sufficient French language skills to work through the system.

Sophie has been supporting us through…

Sophie has been supporting us through our investments and has helped us with the process of converting our euros to sterling and bringing back to England. She explained the process in detail and was very reassuring. We followed the steps Sophie had outlined and our funds arrived without any delay. We were very nervous about the transfer but were reassured by Sophie.

Highly recommended

We have just closed our Britline current account, which we've had since 2006, because, following Brexit, it was no longer sustainable to maintain our holiday home in France.

Throughout the eighteen years we've had the Britline account we've always found the team to be so friendly, courteous and helpful.

Excellent service

Mr. Cunnington was so helpful and patient. He called me at the exact time planned and patiently talked me through the whole process of transferring Eur back to sterling. Furthermore, he then offered to handle the closure of my French account as he had all my details and could ensure the documentation was passed to the correct person. Excellent service

As a non-resident with a holiday home in France, I was looking for an alternative to my Societe Generale account because of the high annual non-resident charges now being applied. Britline offered what I was looking for and the service I have receieved for the transfer of account has been excellent. Although the account is online, I have had personal contact by telephone to set up the account and have named contacts for any follow up - something which disappeared from British banking years ago. Excellent service.

Fantastic Bank & Easy process

I am writing to express my sincere satisfaction with the exceptional service I received while opening a bank account at your institution recently. I have been hearing that it can be a difficult process for UK citizens to open a French bank account, but my experience was anything but. In fact, it was remarkably simple and seamless.

After submitting the necessary documentation, I was interviewed by Michelle Turner, who was incredibly kind, professional, and helpful throughout the entire process. She took the time to thoroughly explain the nuances of French banking, which was invaluable as it does differ from the UK system. Her patience and clarity made the whole experience stress-free.

I honestly cannot recommend this bank enough. It was a no-hassle, straightforward process from start to finish, and far exceeded my expectations.
I would especially like to extend a massive thank you to Michelle for her excellent guidance and assistance. Her professionalism and welcoming demeanor made the whole experience a pleasure.
