Just a heads up to those thinking of…
Just a heads up to those thinking of insuring with Collingwood in their own car. Collingwood will not insure you once you pass your test, they only insure long term drivers. So whilst the costs seem reasonable in the first instance you will be hit with a £40 cancellation fee and a £48 business fee. You will need to factor this in when buying insurance with them. Likely a better option going with a company who is prepared to insure you once you pass your test.....

Collingwood provides insurance for learner drivers on both an annual and short term basis, depending on the customer's needs at the time of taking out the policy. Once a learner driver has passed their driving test, they are no longer classed as a learner driver, which means the policy is no longer suitable and will need to be cancelled. A £40 cancellation fee applies in line with terms and conditions that the policyholder has signed up to at the time of taking the policy out.
We aim to make this information as clear and transparent as possible during the purchase journey so customers can make an informed decision about the cover that best suits their needs.
We are sorry that you were unhappy in your experience with Collingwood, but want to wish you (or your learner driver), much success as a full licence holder and wish them many safe and happy driving adventures in the future.

Great staff, good product, system is a minor irritant
I wanted to update my address details, as we've moved house. Then I wanted to buy a new learner policy for my daughter as the other ran out a couple of days ago (timed to perfection!). Apparently it's not possible to just change your address, you have to start from scratch and make a new account, answering every single question again - ridiculous! However, the lady on the phone was extremely helpful, she took me through the whole process there & then. She was professional, but also friendly, very understanding of my exhausted brain, and kind. In summary: fantastic staff, a good product at a reasonable price, but please sort your systems out.

Feel like we have been punished!
We purchased insurance with these guys 11 months ago for £280 which has been fully payed, my son passed his test and because he passed before the policy came to the end, we have had to pay £40 cancellation fee!!
So if you are about to get your insurance make sure you book your test for the day this policy ends or you too will get charged, even if you have fully payed for the whole 12 months….
They are quick enough to take your money and are very misleading.
I definitely would not recommend this company

Having read lots of the Trust Pilot…
Having read lots of the Trust Pilot Reviews.I must say that I was worried about charges after my Daughter passes her test,as her 1st test is in 5 weeks time etc.So I asked what charges were likely to be.There is a £40.00 Cancel charge & then another £50 ish final insurance cost.But that was because I took out a 12 months Policy.If I had taken out a smaller time the actual Premium would have been more expensive (Pro Rata).The Excess wasn't horrific & the no milage restrictions were not an issue.So if She passes in 5 weeks,if it costs less than £100 to cancel,I'll be totally Happy 100%.
The other major plus,was that they actually have a Real phone number to contact,with a Human at the end.Which to me was the best bit.I spoke to a really amazing young man called Rhys & I must have asked him 50+ questions & it was like being back in the good old days.No Bots or AI,He was just so very Patient & Helpful,nothing was to much trouble.Once we got part my 30 minute Interrogation over.We were up & running.All Documents were sent & 20 minutes later we had taxed her Car & she was out with my wife driving her own car (She's one Happy Bunny).
I cannot recommend "Collingwood" high enough & Rhys was probably one of the Best Customer Services persons that I have ever spoken to.Every Doc & Detail was sent out straight away & a job that I was Dreading was done as a Pleasure.5 Stars all the way.Thanks Rhys.
