I strongly advise anyone considering Jimdo (jimdosite) to look elsewhere. I used them to host my site for years, and missed a subscription payment deadline due to not having access to my accounts whilst moving to a different country. When I finally got back in to check my email, my website had been taken down and my "invoice" had already been sent off to a shady third-party collection agency whose job is to pressure and intimidate customers over minor subscription disputes.
No decency. Just threats and legalese from a company you've never heard of.
Worse, their customer support is completely unresponsive and utterly useless. It took more than two weeks to get any response back and they have no flexibility for customers who are willing to give them money.
I offer to pay back the period of time that they actually ran the service for + a penalty, and the immediate reaction is that they want me to pay basically 150% of the full 2 year subscription fee to the debt collection agency in order to "reactivate my contract." The site was only operational for 1.5 months past the payment due date before they took it down.

I have had nothing but a nightmare with Jimdo since I decided to move from Squarespace to Jimdo - serious regret!
The products and customer service have been nothing but disappointing, service is rude, tricked me into purchasing another SHIT product of theirs on a 'good will' provisor that they would refund the AI version - the creator version is even worse.
It is plastered all over the internet about a 14 day refund period which is why I chose to try them out and then they blatantly refused a refund. Benjamin is rude and unhelpful and now holding my domain ransom. He actually said that he couldn't refund because my website was for business use - why the hell do people have a website if not for business??? This is the stupidist thing I have ever heard.
I wanted to refresh my website and their marketing for their AI site seemed like a great quick idea but I have spent more time trying to fix my issue with these muppets than it would have taken to build my own site on Squarespace.
It doesn't even offer enough features to hold a fully functioning website to run your business.
Now no one will return my emails, my emails are getting stuck in my clients quarantine spam, I have an effing business to run!!!
I want the 2 websites refunded and my domain unlocked which I have been told by the registra this can be done but they are obviously blocking it.
You should be ashamed of yourself Jimdo - disgraceful given that your CEO supports entrepreneurship
How about you help me get my business back on track!
And as for your customer responses on all of your reviews here it is a joke - people are here because they have already reach out - you don't respond and you certainly don't look into things and take action or we wouldn't be here right now. How about you pick up the damn phone and actually provide some really customer support if you really actually want to rectify the issues!

We've been getting threatening letters from a German collection agency after using the free version of the website builder....and we aren't the only ones!
My husband built me a cutesy little website a few years ago. It was just his thoughtful way to show off my crochet art. He used the free version of the website builder and never agreed to any sort of renewal terms.
Fast forward a couple years and we've started getting threatening letters from some German debt collection agency. The letters always come several weeks after the date they are demanding payment for and it's always a different dollar amount (somewhere in the range of $300-$350). I'm assuming they are racking up the interest which is crazy since we never get these letters until well after the date they put on them has passed. For example, one letter came on July 17th and the date they DEMANDED payment was June 26th. This last letter we received says that they've been instructed to take further legal action against us. With research, I've determined that the agency is legitimate. I was unsure because these do not look legitimate at all. The last letter contained a bank account and instructions to deposit money into it. That's definitely not going to happen!
My husband scoured his email and found one singular email in his junk folder requesting payment. That was it—no further communication or warnings. If this is a legitimate charge, there should be more than one communication at least.
Here's the biggest red flag of all. There is an entire Reddit forum discussion of previous Jimdo users who have been receiving the SAME letters after either canceling their services or being enrolled in an auto-renew program without consent. Reading through the negative reviews on this site is just reading the same experience over and over again. At the very best, the terms of service are NOT clear, and at the worst, this is a shady business practice that targets clients looking for free or inexpensive website-building tools.
Buyer beware for sure!
UPDATE: In response to the response,
We have tried to log in to the Jimdo account to verify all information before reaching out to your support team, and it's saying it's "blocked". I'm not even confident that support would be helpful based on other reviews I've read here.
When we received the first letter a little over a month ago, we logged in to verify what sort of account we had. Under Profile Subscription Plan, it said "Free". Since this was supposed to be an inexpensive gift for me at a time when we were really struggling financially, I don't really have any other information to give. I do know, however, that there was no upgrade done on our part. Ever. Period.
The only communication we ever received was a single email that went straight to my husband's junk folder. This is not an adequate notification of a payment request. Sending one notification and never following up in any other way, and then sending it to a collection agency, is just poor customer relations.
The only "fair solution" here would be to reverse any charges and drop it. We did not agree to any "upgrades" or charges, and do not feel obligated to pay for something that we didn't want or take actionable steps to purchase.

Criminal.
2-4 week waits with customer services. Only to tell you they are “busy”. I had to threaten them with police and bank reports till they finally answered.
I was trying to transfer my domain and needed an auth ID which only they can provide. They finally did after months of repeated demands. However, they gave the auth ID, but kept my domain locked in their hosting!
They also ignored my refund request that was filed well within the timeframe of their “100% risk-free period”.
This is a criminal operation.

I was charged for a full year’s subscription by Jimdo for a website I wasn’t using and had no idea was still active. The only renewal notice they sent went to an email address that had been deactivated — and despite that, they made no effort to contact me through any other means, even though they had my payment details and name.
When I raised the issue, their support team took an inflexible, robotic stance. They admitted they would only consider a refund in cases of personal bankruptcy, which contradicts their earlier claim that no exceptions could be made. Their tone was dismissive throughout, with no attempt to engage reasonably or fairly.
Disappointing customer service and a poor experience overall. I would not recommend Jimdo to anyone looking for a transparent or customer-focused platform.

Not paying my renewal invoice should trigger cancellation of account, not a mandatory payment and then collections. Be careful with this one.

Terrible experience. My son 10 year old son signed up for a one month subscription and did not renew. Jimdo automatically renewed him for a year and cancelled the subscription due to non payment. Despite cancelling the subscription, Jimdo pursued us for payment and went so far as to send their debt collectors after us, threatening to serve us with a subpoena in Germany.
It's hard to imagine a more unfriendly and unethical outfit. Do yourself a favor and use Shopify.

I had elected not to auto-renew my business website that was hosted by Jimdo GmbH, in October 2024. I was surprised then to get a letter from a collection agency called Debtist, stating that they are collecting on an unpaid invoice from Jimdo. At first, I thought it was a scam email. I contacted Jimdo Support and they said that they turned it over to collections. I am now attempting to appeal this invoice, because I had specifically not wanted to renew my subscription and turned off auto-renew. I will update my review as things develop, but just a heads up for those who may be in a similar situation as I was, to be very careful.

UPDATED REVIEW: PREDATORY AND UNETHICAL! STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISGUSTING COMPANY! THEY WILL SEND YOU TO COLLECTIONS.
I’m reporting this company to FTC for deceptive practices. Stop trying to tell me there is no deceit or else others wouldn’t be saying the same thing! You guys know exactly what you’re doing. It clearly says if you cancel within 14 days you are entitled to a refund. I never once used this service “ for business use”. And I should be able to cancel a service I never used, especially if & when it clearly states “ refund applicable within 14 days” why blatantly lie if that’s the case?I just wanted to make a website for fun & see how it would look. Turns out the whole setup is not for me and I did not even use the service at all. Not even for one minute. I chose to cancel, and even though it clearly says I’m applicable for refund within 14 days, you guys are finding any reason to not refund me, and send me to collections.
You’re a shady company and I hope you guys get what’s coming to you because you deserve it for trying to harm people’s credit score over the way YOUR SITE was built and worded. You guys set this up in this way to TRAP people. I hope people read my review and understand to never do business with a company like yours.
Cancelled this subscription on the day of purchasing after realizing this platform was not for me. They refused to refund me and their excuse was this:
“ Hello Shenisha, Thank you for your message! I'm happy to assist you. We're sorry to hear that you’d like to revoke the contract for your Jimdo website **.com.
We’ve reviewed your request. Since your contract is for business use, a revocation is unfortunately not possible. “
They refused to refund me, they terminated my contract, but keep sending me invoices saying I owe them money. My contract was terminated! Why am I being harassed with emails saying that this will be forwarded to a debt collection partner? I don’t owe this company $1. My contract was terminated yet they are saying I owe money on an invoice. This company is wrong for what they are doing to consumers. They deserve less than 0 stars. As of September 9, 2025 the invoice is at $167. I OWE NOTHING.
As you all can see from their replies, read properly before signing a contract with this company, they definitely are deceitful and there are hidden terms that aren’t advertised when purchasing a subscription. Again, they are going to say it’s stated in the terms but it’s not clear enough for users and they did this blatantly.
Their customer service is atrocious as well, and you won’t get a response for an entire week. Stick to BlueHost or GoDaddy, if you run into a problem, at least you will recieve support within a reasonable timeframe. MISLEADING is the word to use to describe this company.

I made a website back in 2021. I remember clear as day that I cancelled the auto-renewal of that website because I wasn't even sure I was going to use it. And I did not use it. I moved and started using another email. I'm lucky the new person at my old place told me I received a letter otherwise I wouldn't have known there was a debt collection after me for something I know I didn't buy. They are scammers and you can't even speak to anyone from customer service. I received 1 email in 2023 saying I had an unpaid bill and it was their 2nd time contacting, which wasn't.
--Edit after their response. You never sent any bill. No email of confirmation of subscription, no anything. You can't decide to change your policy years after someone stopped using your services and decide that you are going to charge them on your new policy. You only sent a second reminder YEARS after I stopped using your services. I'm not going to update my email and home address just in case you want to sue me more than 2 years after.

After a comment this is the outrageous answer I get (see my new comment after): "We’re sorry to hear about your experience. When an outstanding invoice is not settled despite multiple reminders over an extended period, the case is handed over to a collection agency. At this point, we are no longer able to intervene directly."
They were no outstanding invoice cause, first of all, I received anything and the automatic renewall, despite what you pretend, is not legit. You can threaten people all you want but, and ask any lawyer, if the renewall is not paid, there is no renewall
Continue to tell what you want, but, in two days you have already lost 2 very old subscriptions (so far much more) and it will continue on an on with our clients if we continue to receive harrassing reminders from your so called collecting agency.
