Descript is an AI-powered video and audio editing platform that combines transcription, screen recording, and publishing into a single tool. Instead of using multiple apps for editing, captioning, and sharing, users can manage the entire workflow in one place. At its foundation, Descript allows text-based editing. Media files are automatically transcribed, and changes to the text directly edit the video or audio timeline. This makes editing more accessible for beginners while still providing advanced capabilities for professionals. Core Features Text-based editing: Edit media by editing words on a transcript instead of navigating timelines. Screen and webcam recording: Capture product demos, tutorials, and presentations in one place. AI enhancements: Tools like Eye Contact, Studio Sound, filler word removal, and automatic captions. Avatars & voice tools: Create lifelike avatars, translate content, or generate synthetic voices. Collaboration tools: Multi-track editing and real-time team collaboration for distributed teams.

Horrible Service Live Chat to the wall is better
They say they will refund you if you cancel within 48 hours. I couldn't even speak to anyone in 56 hours. They claim to have a live chat service but it's NEVER available!
I never even got an email from them when I joined , NOTHING!! I cancelled within 6 hours. Still nothing.
Wonderful tool…but Ai is practically robbery
Descript is a wonderful tool…but the Ai features are disproportionately expensive.
There’s no justification for how much the are charging - I’m familiar with LLMs and API costs but there’s zero realistic link. It’s simply a money grab.
I am hoping sincerely that the market reacts and produces something of similar quality but with realistic pricing.
I was trying to video record the screen…
I was trying to video record the screen with other people, and your program wasn't working, both versions, the web browser and the desktop app. You humiliate me. I was trying for 1 hour to connect to your software until the attendee canceled the meeting.
I was almost ready to pay and buy 1…
I was almost ready to pay and buy 1 year. That is after trying some videos on free plan. But gave up after reading reviews here. Thanks, Trust pilot.
It is complex and unreliable
It is complex and unreliable. I cancelled my paid subscription after no videos were saved or processed. Don't waste your time or money on Descript.
Not recommended - Fake 5 star reviews
For shorter videos it's okay, but if you want to edit a podcast or youtube video this takes more time then a normal editing software. The AI is completely insane, and every change you asks it for messes up your edit, and it can't redo it or fix it. It's so frustrating, because the idea is great - but it is not worth 40 euros a month, it's just a complete shit show especially now - before it could edit some of the easier edits, but now it suddenly translated your english audio into german copy, it can't figure out how to remove filler words without removing entire sentences that makes the entire script make sense etc.
Now after checking how many 1 star they have and 5 star *(Very few in the middle) I see that they hired a company to post 5 star reviews. That's just zero integrity right there.
I checked many of the 5 star reviews and they are all from Ghana and other places with 1 or 2 reviews to larger companies that would easily buy reviews - so that's so sketchy. Not spending 1 USD more on this company.

Poor execution and customer service
update 11/11/25.
We had to chase further, finally getting through to a human who understood and issued a refund.
Still bear in mind that this isn't a miracle software and it's hard to get a refund.
Original review:
Whilst the Idea is great, the execution is trash. Full of bugs, and you end up having arguments until red in the face with an AI 'Underlord' repeating yourself again and again, waiting a few minutes between useless answers. It took ages to upload the videos as it's all in the cloud, which is frustrating. Waited overnight for it to upload, and then it told us there was an error. Tried again from a different location on a different day with much faster wifi and it finally uploaded. After messing about with it for a few hours. It got all the speakers wrong, created an echo on the audio towards the end and made a 50min pod into a 2hr 17min pod. We gave up and tried requesting a refund. Only to now be speaking with another AI chatbot saying we had to request a refund within 48hrs. What a load of crafty pre-meditated bullshit. Paid for a year upfront, product doesn't work, and then they throw that at you. Their customers are podcasters with large audiences who will swiftly do in-depth reviews to shut them down. Crazy way to run a company
5 Star reviews ARE FAKE
In August 2025 Descript's rating was 1 star.
A post on Facebook mentioned this and within 2 months there's a load of 5 star reviews. ..Not one of them is from before August 2025, the time when the real rating of 1 star was displayed!
It's easy to see how suddenly Descript is getting 10's of 5 star reviews on dates like the 30th of September and other dates after the 12 of August 2025 ...
The REAL 1 star reviews before that are keeping it at 4-star at the moment!
A simple data analysis reveals the BIG CHEAT.
Way to go, Descript, now we know that you are aware of how dissatisfied your customer base is and that you'd rather cheat on Trustpilot than fix any of Descript's countless issues and try to achieve real 5-star reviews!
Poor customer service
Poor customer service. i have a yearly membership. I could not figure out how to cancel the account easily, I forgot about it. Then I was charged with no email conformation. i found the charge on my credit card and reached out to support. They declined to refund because I was past the 48 hr refund period. This is ridiculous as credit card statements come well after 48 hrs. Poor customer service

This product is full of bugs and frustration
This product was recommended by a friend, but I've had nothing but problems with it from day one. It's full of bugs. It doesn't do what it's supposed to do or what support tells you it will do when you follow their instructions. I tried to apply Studio Sound and it literally deleted my entire video and audio. Thankfully, I could revert to older version, but not before it charged me AI credits. This product was nowhere near ready to launch. I'm frustrated by it daily.
They Played Stupid Games; Now They Get Stupid Prizes
I paid for Descript for a single month, and what I got was a catastrophic waste of my time, effort, and sanity. This company is not just incompetent; they are outright hostile to their paying customers.
I poured an entire week into meticulous video editing, only to have the entire project torpedoed as the publishing deadline loomed. For three agonizing days, the platform was entirelyu unusable—I was locked out of downloading a single edited video. The only escape from this digital prison was to scramble, sign up for a competitor, and then redo an entire week's worth of work from scratch.
The Policy Games of an Anti-Customer Cult
When I requested a refund for a service that was demonstrably and completely inoperable, their response was a masterclass in callous corporate indifference:
Descript's Canned Response: "Descript provides refunds for payments if requested within 48 hours of billing per our Refund Policy.”
My Reality: "Your product hasn't allowed me to download an edited video in 3 days. I had to sign up with a competitor to complete my work."
Their Final Insult: “While I can't make an exception to our refund policy in this case...”
Let this sink in: Descript's platform was broken, incapable of performing the one job I paid for, yet they never once admitted fault, offered a timeline for repair, or even considered a refund. Their policy is a shield for their failure, not a commitment to their customers.
Zero Accountability, Zero Respect
Their contempt extends beyond the customer support inbox. I reached out to senior leadership on LinkedIn—a desperate plea met with total, deafening silence.
This company has ZERO respect for its customers. If their platform collapses, do not expect support, assistance, or a refund. The best you'll get is a canned, automated email reinforcing their self-serving "policy." They are masters of policy games, and I am awarding them a fitting prize: a scorched-earth campaign.
They Played Stupid Games; Now They Get Stupid Prizes
I was forced to pay for a service that failed, and they flatly refused to return the money they effectively stole from me. I paid for a service, the service failed, and they kept the cash. That is theft.
I have now filed formal, aggressive complaints with my Credit Union, Visa, Stripe, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
I sincerely hope this review of their ignorant, anti-customer policy costs Descript 100 times over in lost revenue what they have taken from me. Do not make the mistake of trusting this abysmal company with your valuable time or money.
Very good editing program BUT...
Very good editing program/service, but completely rediculous that AI-features are based on credits. Credist are comsumed very fast and then you get either stuck or broke.... I would like to stay, but the way it is constructed forces me to find an alternative.
Charging more under new plans and WAY less access to the standard AI functions we had before.
Honestly, I loved Descript but with the changes to the plan, I can't recommend it anymore. They are charging more now under the new tiered plans but they removed uses. Underlord's functions were unlimited under the old plan but now you only get 800 total AI credits per month - for everything they offer. This means that I can only do a fraction of what I was able to do before for more money. If I need additional credits for say filler word removal, I have to pay even more. Way to crap on existing loyal customers.
Terrible experience with customer…
Terrible experience with customer service. I thought I had cancelled my account - they would not help me research it properly to see if i had two. They do not send billing reminders so you don't know if your card is charged. They use slimy sticky tactics. When I flagged i didn't know I had the account and hadn't used it since December 2024, they would not refund not even 1 month. They were charging a card that had been cancelled for many months. This is a real problem with integrity and I did not authorize those charges. I won't support businesses that use slimy subscription tactics in order to keep you. There needs to be accountability for the techniques these companies use. They know that most Descript users are prosumers and likely have small margins. They should take that into account and show that they actually care about the customer experience. There are too many competitive tools out there to use. I won't be back and I will no longer recommend them.
Bought the pro plan
Bought the pro plan. But i cancel allready after a day. Its quite a useless tool. Very impressive marketing, but disappointing product. Waste of time
A month's worth of credits lasts about…
A month's worth of credits lasts about a day. All these supposedly amazing AI features are there to look at and not use as the AI credits costs renders them unusable. Pricing is unrealistic. I bought 2 seats Creator plan, this lasts about about 2 days. Customer service accused me of using too much AI editing. Isn't that was they promote in marketing?
