I'm a carer and my client expressed a desire to have a meal in esquire coffee sunderland, o on the 29th of January 13.30 we arrived its a lovely place and looked very inviting and clean, I ordered eggs benedict my client ordered the baked potato + tuna, my sister ordered poached eggs on toast. When the meals arrived the eggs on both meals were solid I was so disappointed as I was looking forward to the meal, I pointed it out to the young lady who brought us the meals and a although she offered her apologies she didn't ask if we wanted a replacement meal, and the meal was not cheap, can you please make sure this doesn't happen again as we really would like to return,thanking you in anticipation,

The place looks and smells lovely inside and I looked forward today to eating and having a cuppa with my husband. The young staff are very nice and polite, I only wish I could say the same for the owner/manager. You help yourself to a table & order at the counter. Drink orders are shouted out once they are ready for you to collect. A shame as it’s a busy place so hard to relax or have a conversation when this is going on. Food is brought to your table. My husband ordered a sausage bap which took about 15/20 minutes. I ordered 2 poached eggs on sourdough toast. This took considerably longer by then my husband had finished eating and we’d had our drinks. The toast had no butter at all & with 2 of the smallest poached eggs I’ve ever seen. One was not much bigger than a quails egg & this was overcooked & hard, the other was undercooked & snotty. I took it back & politely explained why I was returning it. The manager looked annoyed & said ‘you won’t find anywhere that butters your toast or provides butter for it’ I disagreed but he carried on saying the same thing. A young staff member said they would make it again for me. 20 mins later my food arrived & again one egg was completely hard & absolutely tiny. Although this time they had placed loads of butter pats on my plate. I returned it again but said ‘I will eat it but I just wanted to show you there is still a problem’ I didn’t want anything for me, I just wanted them to be aware. The manager then picked up the hard egg in his bare hand & looked at it before plopping it back onto my plate, saying ‘they are eggs. Eggs come in different sizes so some will be overcooked and some won’t ’ shrugging his shoulders. I replied that I wouldn’t be able to eat it now he’d handled it & he rolled his eyes & said he’d refund me in full. I was then stood at the till with him & he went on to serve 2 more customers & just ignored me.I was then handed the money for my food albeit £1 short. I asked for his name & he said ‘I’m the owner so if you are thinking of complaining then email and it’ll be me that picks it up so….’ & smirked at me. I said it’s reviews that can make or break a place and he shrugged & said ‘I don’t care, I already have 4.8 score on google.

Went into St Nicholas Centre esquires in Sutton, Surrey on Sunday 5th January at 11.13am. I ordered my americano and a croissant, paid and sat down. I sat there waiting for my drink and food for ten minutes listening to the four staff having a good chat. The café was empty apart from two customers. The a female server came over eventually with a tray of four drinks and promptly started to give me a cappuccino, she had no idea. Then after a bit my croissant turned up. I took a bite had a sip of coffee. Took another bite of the croissant and it was soggy, plate was soaking wet. Took it back and was offered another one so I refused and wanted a refund. Then I walked out of the coffee shop never to return as the staff have their own agenda and the customers come way down the list. If they don't want to work there why don't they leave. On reflection I should have got my coffee refunded as well.

I was in the new Esquires Weldon Park Corby and I believe I saw the chap making some chicken salads drop some chicken on the floor, pick it up and put it on the work surface and a little later put it with the rest on a customer's plate. I was, quite frankly shocked by what I saw him do. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty confident in this.

Had a lovely - well made coffee and really nice Danish pastries at Ruidlip on the 2nd January However, there was no clearing of tables. It was very busy in the shop so the girl who made the coffee was dealing with serving and the food served did look great. She was excellent. However, the coffee shop should not be in a mess with dirty cups/ plates left on tables. The loos were also not in a great condition it is a loo for both sexes do it’s important to really keep them clean. Not nice or pleasant to use. I would love another coffee in the Ruislip shop but would not like to have it in a coffee shop that was a mess. The girl making coffee did a brilliant job but where were the staff to clear? I can only hope it was because of Christmas this happened.

Subject: Complaint Regarding an Incident at Esquires Coffee

Dear Esquires Coffee Management,

I am writing to express my disappointment and concern regarding an incident that occurred on January 2nd while I was at your establishment.

As I was sitting at a table with my 4-year-old son, I was struck by a massive falling advertising sign. The impact was extremely strong, and I am grateful beyond words that the sign did not hit my child. Unfortunately, the force of the hit left me with a severe headache, and I will now have to visit the hospital to ensure there are no serious injuries.

What I found most distressing was the lack of response from your staff. Not a single person approached me to check if I was okay or to offer assistance. The only help I received was from a kind girl sitting at the neighboring table.

This level of negligence and lack of care from your team is unacceptable. I trust that Esquires Coffee values the safety and well-being of its customers, and I hope that immediate steps will be taken to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.

I would appreciate a prompt response addressing this matter, along with any actions you plan to take.

Went into their coffee shop in Sudbury Suffolk. It was lovely and clean, staff very helpful and friendly. The coffee was delicious.

The staff here are amazing ! Will always go above and beyond to help and make the experience more than 5 stars ! And the poached eggs are always 10/10

Lunch at Newbury branch on 25 August with my wife. We sat where I had full view of food prep behind downstairs counter. Food was handled multiple times by different members of staff. The people running the cafe seemed to have no clue, it was absolute chaos. Long wait for two sandwiches. My wife’s cheese and mushroom toastie had bits of ham stuck to the bottom of it, presumably from an unclean grill. My pulled pork sandwich was barely warm and I have had a very bad upset stomach and diarrhoea since Sunday afternoon. Avoid at all costs.

I cannot comment on the staff as they are overall great but we had a spoilt cheese & tomato toastie given to us :(
To the staff, check the food you give out beforehand please

We visited Esquires in Hoddesdon... quite a new coffee shop with a good look about it.
However, we queued for ages! Far to long for coffee and it is very overpriced.
On top of this, they allow DOGS! Inside. This I will never understand, especially when there is an outside eating space. Having dogs around food, drink and lots of children does not make any sense . I love dogs but do not wish to share them while I'm eating or drinking.
Very friendly staff and it was clean.

Horsham branch, West Sussex: Unsmiling, unwelcoming monosyllabic counter staff took ages to appear from backroom despite repeated calls. Tables covered in filth, falling apart and slopping drinks everywhere. Overpriced for both standard of service and drinks. Won't be back. Use the local independent instead, at least they value your business.

Ruislip- open about 2 months- 2nd trip-1st not good , 2nd worse. Cold food had to go back, poor quality, cold drinks !!! Not giving a 3rd go

Garbage….cold hard poached eggs on toast, eggs already on the toast and 2 butters on the side. Salmon bagel with one tiny thin strip of salmon, crisps and a salad, at 930am…..food turned up before drinks, all for £28 …. Never again

Newbury - No GF option for bread but staff had to be chased twice to get this information. Bacon roll was cold inside. Other breakfast took ages to come and was lukewarm.

We recently visited this restaurant in Windsor and had an unfortunate dining experience. We ordered a soup and a bacon bap, and while the soup was Ok, the bacon bap was appalling. As you can see in the image, the bacon was essentially just uncooked fat, making it inedible. We couldn't finish it due to how disgusting it was. This was quite disappointing, and we hope the restaurant addresses this issue to improve their food quality.

I’m visiting friends in London and they live in Ruislip, I was strolling the high street and ended up at Esquires Coffee Shop in the afternoon on Tuesday this week as it looked like an amazing spot to have a late coffee and a snack. Beautiful establishment, friendly staff, my cappuccino was beautiful and I wanted to spend a bit of time speaking to my family back in the States updating them on my travels. It was late afternoon but unfortunately my conversation was interrupted by a manager of the coffee place ordering the staff to start cleaning the place whilst me and other customers were still enjoying our orders at about 17:15hrs or so and the coffee place is supposedly closing at 18:30hrs. Now , while the service from the staff was amazing, their manager asked the staff to start hoovering and moping the place, which was not the staffs fault, and to be honest I felt like I’m in a fast food establishment! The staff as I said was apologetic but I’ve noticed that they had no clout on it as to be honest I have noticed the manager on the day was kind of not understanding the staff as it was not her first language! I’m thankful for the beautiful coffee, but I would not be happy if I had to go somewhere for a cup of coffee and feel like being hushed out of my comfort zone! Thank you 🙏

The staff were friendly, however seemed rushed. It took a while to get our drinks, which all came at different times. We ordered separately as we were in a group and paid separately and we're later informed multiple items were out of stock of some elements which meant some orders had to be changed, but we were not offered refunds for the difference, which was £4+ in some cases. The food was basic, but still not great (served end pieces of bread, over grilled toasties, which should be easy to get right), drinks were okay. Based on this experience, and it's proximity to another popular cafe, I would not recommend it and would be unlikely to return.
