Poor

Poor. I made the first draft & as it is free I deliberately included a mistake which was that whilst I named a charity as the main beneficiary I didn't provide the address.

The Will was sent to me 24 hrs later having presumably been checked and passed by a solicitor as they say in their promotional blurb and nothing was mentioned about the omission. Further, there was no automatic provision stating what would happen to the money going to to charity in the event it didn't exist anymore i.e. I wasn't given the chance to state the amount intended for my chosen charity should be redirected to a similar charity in event of the original charity no longer existing. As the Will stood, it was written that the amounts to charity would revert back into the Will if the Charity no longer existed but then was silent on what should happen next!! This was a standard automatic wording which was unacceptable and due to the template nature of the Will I could find no area where I could rewrite this part of the Will. Moreover, I wanted to include a Letter of Wishes with the Will but there was no provision for that either. As it's free I shouldn't really complain but I should say if you have anything more than a few thousand to leave/have slightly unusual bequests to make you should go to a paid service.

Edit: 05/05/25. To any reader, following the very rude and aggressive comments from Freewills made on 01/05/25 - almost 2 months after I gave this review please note the following:

Freewills state their Wills do not include addresses of charities as charities change address. Well, that may be but, following a thorough exploration of FreeWills template on the back of their comments to me, I would ask that if Freewills believe Charities change their addresses, why do they request the address of the charity in the questionnaire template only to ignore the provided address when the Will is produced? Remember, the Freewills comment states "donations in our wills do not include the addresses of charities,".

Regards the comment on me going to them for a bespoke Will they have clearly missed the point that I was commenting on the effectiveness of completing a Will for free using their online template. I assume that the bespoke service would of course attract a fee but I was commenting on the Free service. They don't seem capable of understanding that.

On the "Expression of Wishes" letter I mention, this is only dealt with in their template if you select an option to exclude a close family member, as I wasn't trying to exclude anyone the letter of wishes was not mentioned. Further, although the letter of wishes is mentioned if you are trying to exclude close family members, it does not provide any box into which you insert your letter of wishes, nor is any mention made of of it being added "as an appendix" to the Will. Indeed, it is difficult to see how it could be added (outside of the person writing the Will manually completing a separate hard copy of a letter of wishes which they would then add to the Will when they print it out, which is not made clear on the website) as there is no provision in the template for a letter of wishes to be completed - they simply state you should complete a letter of wishes but do not say where it should be placed.

Therefore, had Freewills read and understood my final line of my comment dated 07/03/25, they would not have made these comments which demonstrate a lack of knowledge of their own template. As I said in my original comment, it's free, so you get what you pay for, but if you have anything more than a few thousand or have slightly unusual bequests to make you should go to a paid service which would seem to agree with the first line of the final paragraph of their comment, but they can't see that.

Previously, I advised any reader that unless they had a set of simple wishes or a small estate to leave they should not use this free service. I still stand by that comment but in light of the late, rude, insulting and unprofessional comment from Freewills where they demonstrate a lack of knowledge of their own template/questionnaire I would add that you should consider whether you really want to engage with people like this.

Neil, donations in our wills do not include the addresses of charities, just their name and charity numbers and this is because charities, as well as you and I move address and therefore, you would need to update your will time after time. Charity numbers stay with the charity and do not change.

Had you wished to have a more bespoke will, all you had to do was contact us and we would have assisted you, but you did not, you came straight to a negative review on Trustpilot.

Furthermore, your expression of wishes is added into the appendix of the will, had you bothered to explore further, you'd have found that was the case.

Our wills are free, yet we are still here to help you, but, again, you never even bothered to ask for it, but still complained on here.

Moreover, we have clients with very large estates who come to us for a more bespoke will, therefore, please do not advise people that they should not bother to use our services as you clearly have no concept of what we do.

In response to your update. You have made a lot of assumptions 1. No, there is no extra charge there so you are incorrect. 2. We are not aggressive, we just do not appreciate you assuming things when all you have done is come straight to give a negative review. 3. Again, you assumed and stated that if it is a small estate of a couple of thousand, not to bother. Now you have changed that to a 'small estate'. Please stop assuming. 4. You agree that charities change address but then still try to find a way round that not being the issue. 5. Not sure how many times we have to state this, but the expression of wishes is in the appendix of the will and you can detail your wishes there. Had you worked your way to the end of the will, you would have clearly found that. But you're still stating it is not there. it is, it really is.

You have absolutely no idea what we do and how we help people. You have just assumed instead of obtaining the facts and when those facts have been given to you, you do not like it as it does not suit your narrative.

It is very clear that this was your sole intention, to leave a negative review. You had no intention in coming to us to ask for help. The effort you have put in is palpable.

As for all the 141,000 clients we have, and have helped free of charge, I am sure people reading these reviews can make their own mind up as to whether we provide a fantastic service, and the thousands of 5* reviews. What you did, Neil, was deliberately draft a will with an intention to make a negative review, and you clearly have stated that. Therefore, you had no intention to draft a will but your sole intention was to smear us on here.

That just leads us to believe you're not organic but likely competition in the same field. And from checking your 'other reviews' we are not the only will company you have given one star reviews to.

You have a good day now, Neil.

I paid money for a service I did not receive

I paid extra for a bound copy which I never received. I emailed in and let them know, and they said they sent another copy out. I still have not received a copy and my further email has not been answered. Do not recommend.

Your will was posted to you twice, Carla, the second had tracking on it and was received at your address.

Job done

I found the whole process very straight forward and simple to use. There are explanatory links throughout the sections that guide you if required. I would highly recommend and will be telling my friends and family about the service. I like the fact that you have the option to tip rather than it being prerequisite which I’m sure and would hope is a winning formula. It’s also a relief to tick off one of those boxes you readily put off until another day and potentially save a lot of unnecessary stress and upset.

Great for simple wills.

A quick and easy form to fill and my will was completed. This was then checked and email to me. No charge for anything but the option to make a contribution and/or have a printed copy mailed for £30. Superb service!

***AVOID THIS COMPANY****

Dreadful, rude, patronising and disrespectful communication from one of the non Solicitors Amanda George. Other poor reviews mention the same individual ! Beware you may be automatically charged for a fireproof wallet that you did not order. Appalling attitude and customer service from this person as a representative of this company.
*** update*** on 19/01/25 I completed a will online with this company. This was required as I was being admitted to hospital for major surgery, the outcome of which was uncertain. At this point I was NOT ON ANY KIND OF OPIATE MEDICATION as assumed in the disgusting response from this person. This document was completed whilst fully competent and the process was witnessed by my Family who will attest to this.
On 23/01/25 I was admitted to hospital and my surgery took place some 4 days AFTER completing the document.
At no time did I order a fireproof wallet. As soon as I discovered the overcharge this was reported. The appalling accusatory response I received was nothing sort of shocking ! On attempting to log into my online account with this company, I discovered I had been locked out and was unable to check any transactions or obtain the invoice. ** WHY WOULD THEY LOCK ME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT (Having invited me to log in and check what I had ordered) unless they were trying to hide the irregularity? This series of events caused extreme distress and was totally unprofessional and unnecessary.
The entire package was returned immediately and I have not received a refund ******Avoid *******

, Alison. You went through the payment process and you selected a bound will and fireproof wallet and then you email stating we are at fault. How about you take responsibility for your attention to detail when purchasing items. You were also emailed the same day to show what you had purchased, but again, you and not taking responsibility for your actions, not ours. Just because you did something wrong, then send rude emails to us blaming us for your lack of attention, you are the issue, not Amanda.

Further to this, you have just emailed stating you are in hospital and completed your will, in your words [when I was in no fit state due to having spinal surgery], therefore, you also gave incorrect information when you were asked if you were well enough to complete a will. Being medicated with opiates affects your mental capacity and you clearly should not have been drafting a will. Again, this issue lies on your shoulders, Alison, certainly not ours and most certainly not Amanda's.

Simple and quick

The whole process was simple and speedy. I am not sure it is suitable for my circumstances which includes a difficult marital position, but I am sure for simple wills it would be fine
