We use Go cardless as part of our membership system. Finds were taking longer and longer to reach our account - beyond 14 days when it is meant to be 3 or 4. We found out our account was in review bit had not been notified. We also needed to change account details but needed to go through a lengthy process by showing several pieces of ID from the directors, seems that out account was not enough and the fact we already had the account was not enough. Even after all of this the account is still on verification, severely affecting our business which relies on creating subscriptions. Unfortunately our membership system doesn't give us a choice because it is attached to Go Cardless.
In light of these issues and slow responses to action, would not recommend.

It seems the only way to get reliable payments for any business these days is bank transfer.
Do not use GoCardless. After two very small payment requests to a client who insisted on Direct Debit payments the account was frozen.
I then had to go through a rigmarole of trying to confirm if the second request had been cancelled to ensure that GoCardless didn't scam my client out of his money.
I will contact my MP about these so called payment processing companies who profiteer from locking people out of their hard earned money. I know of many small businesses who have access to their cash removed with no notice.
They claim to freeze these accounts based on reviews (2 small transactions to the same client for small jobs warrants a review - FML), and yet refuse to be transparent about why they freeze the accounts hiding behind the excuse of the 'Authorised Payment Institution. They are beyond unprofessional, and yet start to cry if you even utter discontent in their direction.
I can think of much worse ways to describe GoCardless, but for the purpose of this review, Scammers will suffice.
Edit : Yes I was contacted. A lot of words without actually saying anything. Based on the communication from you, I can only reiterate how important it is that people don't trust you with their money. My guess is they have started using AI to manage reviews, so hopefully this will see them go out of business quickly.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience using GoCardless.
I set up my account on February 6th after receiving a recommendation from a software partner. The integration process was smooth, and I issued an invoice to my client on February 7th. The client paid immediately, and the system indicated that funds would be paid out the next business day (February 9th).
However, the payout never arrived.
From February 9th to 12th, I contacted support multiple times and submitted all requested verification documents promptly. I was assured the issue would be resolved by the end of the week. On February 13th, I was told the matter was “with another team” and no further update could be provided.
On February 19th, I received an email stating they would no longer process payments on my behalf — yet the funds already collected from my client were still being held, with no clear timeline for release or refund.
The most concerning part is this:
The money has successfully left my client’s bank account, but it has not been paid to me or returned to the client.
If there were verification concerns, the account should not have been allowed to accept payments in the first place. Holding client funds indefinitely without transparency creates serious cash flow disruption for small businesses.
I am still awaiting either:
• Release of the funds to my bank account, OR
• A confirmed refund to my client with proof of transaction.
Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend this service to other business owners who rely on predictable cash flow.

They put me under review for weeks now and I don't know how long this will take. Completely throttled my cash-flow
The only answer I ever get to my questions is "please see the previous E-mail" which has 0 usefull information. All it says its that they have to review my account, that I cant add or edit mandates, and that it usually goes quickly and smoothly. That was on Feb. 3rd, it is now quickly approaching the end of the month, I have memberships to process and it's still not resolved and I have no indication of when it will be. 0/10 experience so far.

GoCardless made things WORSE after my complaint - second complaint now filed
After my first complaint, GoCardless:
• Took £380 from my client AGAIN via a cancelled mandate - admitted this was an automated error
• Sent contradictory emails saying funds going to different destinations
• 7 days later, neither my client nor I have received the £380
• Still haven't closed my account despite promising to on 12 Feb
• Still no response from Senior Compliance Team promised 9 Feb
My client (a charity) has now been debited £380 TWICE. I've still never been paid for work done 4 weeks ago.
Second formal complaint submitted. Financial Ombudsman Service now involved.
Their complaint handling is worse than the original problem.

Recently set up a sports club membership scheme with payments collected through GoCardless.
The set up was simple and customer support has been first class.
Collections to date has been trouble free and payments made to our account on time.

Very slow and unresponsive while simply trying to add a new bank account. Monies have been held in the GoCardless account for over a month. I have been a customer for several years without problem, until I opened a new bank account. It has been impossible to verify the account, despite all of the information being sent in good time.

GoCardless is simple to use and is a great way of tracking regular payments coming in. You get an easy link to share and once your client has made their first payment the direct debit is set up to run for as long as you set it to. There is also a referral system which means both you and the person you refer can earn £100 pretty swiftly. Win Win so to speak.

I have a customer who has signed up twice. How do I delete the duplicate sign-up?
Very quickly resolved by GoCardless. It was a matter that where GoCardless said Cancel (current action) it actually meant Delete the duplicate entry.
