You can show them insurance and voucher with booking number from booking that don’t care , but they propose to buy their insurance for 350 euros and then they can block deposit from debit cards!

They asking to send to them your passport and drivers license for verification!
After couple of days they send you email that your documents ok

But when you coming to airport to pick up the car they asking for driver license and you showing to them they saying that I can’t rent a car with that driver license .
They said you can drive in Italy with that driver license but rent car no !
And of course they not returning the money back to you!
I am not recommending to anyone this busters!!!

What they do is, the give you a price in the booking, and you pay them, and when you come to pick up the car, the charge you ekstra for insurance and the price from 35 Euros per day goes to 100 euros per day. After that they ask you credit card to hold on 900 euros in case.. after we refuse to pay the extra 100 euros they ask they say we can not give you the car, and after you ask them to give back the money you already paid, the say we don’t have your money, you have to call the booking company. 🚨 Alert big scam‼️

Unfortunately very unpleasant experience with the company - Portugal branch (Lisbon Airport gold car rental - July ´24).
I've been also renting cars for years and have never been scammed in this way.
I had to pay extra insurance although I had already purchased insurance online.
So I paid the full deposit + tank reservation fee
Of course I ended up paying many times more than was to be expected.
The peculiarity of this story is that on the last day (50 km to the destination) I had a tire explosion while driving on the highway.
While I was waiting for the tow service I photographed the condition of the car as well as the tires (it was only then that I took a closer look at the tires, which seemed to be screaming that they were going to explode very soon - my bad as well as of the agency who put/left such tires into circulation in general, endangering the safety of the lives of passengers and other traffic participants).
After contacting their help desk, I was unable to get in touch with the agency, so I wrote to them several times, and all I could get was a generic answer about general conditions and insurance, after which no one answered.
Except for the explanation and closure of the whole story, I'm still owed 700+ euros.
No matter how hurt and subjective it sounded, objectively such an unprofessional way of doing business as I experienced with Gold car PT I wouldn't recommend to anyone. BR

We came to Goldcar at Aktion Airport (Preveza), there were two nice young men who welcomed us and in a short time all the papers were ready so we could go on holiday. The price was a third of other rentals. We had a problem after three days, the car wouldn't start, but in a very short time we had a replacement car and then we feared our deposit... The car was handed over without fuss and everything went as quickly and smoothly as possible. Now we have also received our entire deposit back.

Fraudulent company! Beware fraud and scams in this company!
Found planted damage on my bumper, very small and in difficult to find place, that could not have happened by normal driving or in parking lot. Charged me 110 EUR!
Then returned my deposit with minus 280 EUR! No reply to emails regarding the overcharge. I have to get my credit card company involved!

I've been renting cars for years and have never been scammed in this way, I had to pay extra insurance although I had already purchased insurance online. I ended up paying double the original price.😡
Also the car was full of dust on the dashboard and in the vents and the seat had sweat marks on it. Admittedly the staff were nice.
But I would never use or recommend gold car to anybody ,
not even my worst enemy.
Held ransom for 225 euros!
Charged 225 euros for a flat tyre. Despite the fact that the tyre was old, wore and not roadworthy. I have photos to prove it. There was 70,000+ kms on the odometer. No surprise the tyres are worn is it. Particularly on the rough Greek roads. So they blamed me for the flat tyre, then insisted on charging me 225 euros for a tyre that only costs 60 euros new. They said it was because the car would be out of service, even thought I returned the car 24 hrs early on my 3wk rental.
I was essentially held ransom. The Goldcar depot is over 8kms from the airport in the middle of nowhere. They ignored anything I said, so the only way I was getting to the airport in time for my flight was to pay up.
Even though I arrived at the depot just after 8am when they opened. There were 4 employees. I was the only customer they served the entire time I was at the depot. I did not leave the depot until after 8.30am.
I cannot say anything good about this experience. I will never rent from Goldcar ever again, nor Europcar who owns Goldcar.

We called to ask for assistance about the credit card used. Were told to expect a reply within 14 days.
Total distance covered - 700km.
Was not a pleasant drive at all. Unfortunately the worse car rental experience of my life.
fraud and disrespect for customer rights
We rented a car with almost scratches everywhere. When I received the car, I pointed out its place in the damage list and asked if this was it. The young employee said yes to the place I showed him and said that there was almost no place without scratches. 5 days later, within 30 minutes of returning back the car, they claimed WITH AN E-MAIL that I did it by marking the side with the biggest scratch on the car, the damage we talked about when we took the car, right away in the damage planning, and they are trying to make me pay for it. The e-mail they sent could not even be answered and it was almost impossible to reach them to explain the situation. Definitely do not rent a car from this company if you want to be respected.
Terrible Experience with Goldcar - Poor Customer Service and Lack of Transparency
I had one of the worst car rental experiences of my life with Goldcar. I booked a car for a road trip in Sicily from May 7 to May 14, 2024 (7 days), paying approximately 340 euros in advance.
During the flight to Palermo, I lost my physical credit card necessary for picking up the vehicle, but I had the same credit card virtually ready for payment. Despite this, the Goldcar staff in Palermo categorically refused this option and any alternative forms of payment (debit card, cash, prepaid card), showing a complete lack of empathy and assistance. They didn’t even explain why they could only accept the physical card when they just needed the card number and the cardholder's name (something that the company I eventually used later accepted without issue).
I want to emphasize that in no prior communication was this detail mentioned, and I had booked with the KEY&GO option, which supposedly did not require a security deposit. Even here, the clarity in communication was poor since at the counter, they told me I would still need to pay a 100 euro deposit.
Despite my repeated complaints and refund requests for a service paid for 7 days, of which I did not even use an hour, Goldcar ignored my messages and did nothing to resolve the situation, continually giving me standard responses without attempting to look into the matter.
I lost 340 euros for no reason, and my travel experience was ruined.
In the end, I had to turn to another company, SRC, which accepted my virtual card without any problem and allowed me to salvage part of the trip. So, I ended up paying for another rental on top of the one with Goldcar.
Goldcar has shown a complete lack of respect for its customers and a significant lack of empathy. I would never recommend this company to anyone and hope others avoid finding themselves in my same situation.

Rentedoth goldcar. Did so online through a third party. When we got there they tried to make out we were not insured even though we had bought the most comprehensive insurance possible. I understand booking through a third party they might not know what insurance we have but to say outright we are not insured is not truthful. We also hired a child seat which was broken in such a way it was dangerous. Giving out broken safety equipment for children is unforgivable. Offered no apology and no help to install it. Terrible experience
They've kept my money!
As well as holding on to a large sum of deposit money for the duration of a hire from Palma, Mallorca, they made me pay (over the odds) for the fuel.
When I returned the car full of fuel, the deposit was released, but the fuel money was not repaid! Apparently, in the small print, Goldcar can keep it for 28 days.
I think that's disgraceful. But...... after 23 more days (51 days in total!), They still have my money!

We hired a car at Bari airport for the East holidays. The process to pick up the car was long and convoluted and the agent tried every possible trick to get us to but their additional insurance. Such old tricks! The car was not ready and when we got it it was not clean and full of additional damages than shown in the rental agreement and didn’t even have a full tank! Fortunately Francesca was very kind and supported us through the process but the company itself was really appalling. Never again.

Select Goldcars "Key'n'Go" package for ease of collection, delivery and mind. I have not used Goldcar when not selecting this option, however I note when reading through terms and condition it seems expensive and cumbersome with deposits, etc.
Fuel scam
I use Goldcar regularly and never had major issues. Unfortunately it seems like the Pisa office is a bit of a scammer. Got charged €65 (€50 or which were a ‘penalty’ for not being full), when I had filled her up from the station 8 mins away from the airport.
