Excellent trip. The scenery was magnificent, with an excellent local guide showing us round Buxton and on the coach trip of the Peak District. The tour leader, Graeme, was also first class; helpful, friendly and professional. Sadly, owing to the extreme heat, the steam rail trips were diesel-hauled, but that was to be expected. The hotel was ok, definitely not four stars - expect Premier Inn + and you won’t be disappointed .

Elements of this holiday were very enjoyable, notably Chatsworth and Buxton. However there was a lot of time spent in coach travel to reach our destinations and the last afternoon's coach tour was just too long, although we had an excellent guide. It was unfortunate that the very hot weather meant that the two trips on heritage railways were not steam hauled for safety reasons.

The trip was really good except that on one day there was rather too much travel by road repeating some of the same routes

This tour was exactly what we wanted: lovely scenery, friendly fellow travellers, and an excellent tour manager in John Grundy. I just wish there had been time to explore the interesting city of Derby. Unfortunately due to train delays and missed connections we weren’t able to do so before or after the tour.

We had a fabulous experience
Hotel not up to the standard expected from Great Rail Journeys. It was poorly located with road traffic noise disturbing sleep. Being based in Derby meant daily approximately one hour long coach journeys to reach the Peak District resulting in time lost which could have better used seeing more of the Peaks.
It was beautiful scenery
A well thought out excursion covering many aspects of the Peak District. A delight.
Wonderful break. Beauty countryside. We were well looked after as always.
The Hotel was poor, the trips were rushed/had things missed out as we were an hour away each way and there were 39 on the tour
We really enjoyed the trip and they are only one or two gripes. The courier and guide were really good. I made the whole trip very enjoyable. On reflection, I think that the visit to Bakewell did not amount too much as there is little to explore there. The other thing to mention is that for vegetarians the meals, lack choice. Finally the absence of a chest of drawers Are in fact, any drawers in the room we found frustrating.

Lovely area and excellent tour manager. Let down by poor hotel service and distance from Train Station. Of the two included rail journeys one was excellent and the other disappointing.
