I liked the simplicity of the check in and the convenient location of the counter near the arrivals hall exit. I did not like the unwillingness to reimburse me for engine oil purchased to avoid damage when the oil level went below safe.

There is STILL £1,505 pending on my credit card 25 days after the rental closed which is stopping me from using the card.

I rented a car at Green Motion Car Rental Stansted for the first time 19 days ago and overall the process and service were fine - aside from the old 'the tank is 1/3 full so just try and bring it back on the same level' trick. But what riles me is that they are still holding on to my deposit. Their terms say 'between 1 and 4 weeks' and to 'call your bank to have them released sooner', but my bank (UBS) confirmed that they have no such power over that decision, and furthermore, upon researching I discovered it is up to the car rental company to initiate the release, NOT the bank. I emailed Green Motion 4 times to have it released sooner as it's blocking my credit card and their only answer was that it did not depend on them. No comment!

Unfortunately I haven't received my deposit return despite I dropped the car 29th December 2025. Don't use Green Motion in Malaysia! Malaysia green motion will stole your money!

Don’t rent here - Portugal (Porto to Faro) they will cheat you!!! We were charged with a fine for not returning the vehicle full although we were instructed during pickup to return it the same way which was half full and even though we showed the very unpleasant employee evidence that the km upon pickup was the same as in his papers with a half full tank, we have been charged with a fine of 50 eur plus charges for extra fuel. The unpleasant employee promised us that he would send in the documentation so that we would not be charged but to no avail. Don’t rent from this scam company!
UPDATE!!
HAVING CONTACTED THEM AGAIN AFTER THEIR REPLY BELOW I HAVE HEARD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING EVEN THOUGH I SUPPLIED PROOF THAT THEY WERE WRONG

I hired a car from these... Not sure I'd ever do it again, the customer service from the pick was great, the car was ok.... But the lack of service beyond that was nothing short of an embarrassment. How can a car hire company not provide an adequate breakdown service!
I got a puncture 100 miles from where I needed to be, So I called the breakdown number, which was actually just a call centre who passes you if to whoever and got put through to a number that didn't exist, hmm, so I rang back and got put through twice more to that same number. The 4th time I got told sorry there's nothing we can do for you and to stop calling.
Luckily I'd parked and wasn't stranded on a motorway, not that they cared anyway. (I know this as I made a point of it, and still I was told "there's nothing we can do")
Green motion left me stranded for 3-4 hours before I managed to find a mobile tyre fitter. But, on a Sunday night no one seems to carry premium tyre or "like for like" as stated in their policy so I shelled out £220 for a mid range tyre and then had to fork out another £255 when returning the vehicle as it wasn't "like for like".
Use at your own peril, I won't use them again unless they can prove to me they can provide a fit and proper breakdown service a car hire company.
If only green motion had put me through to someone who could help..... This would have been a much better review, and I would have recommended them.

Car hire for 16 days booked via a broker. On arrival at Heathrow pick up (off site and you are expected to get a tube, with all your luggage, to a pick up spot) I witnessed extremely aggressive upsell tactics whilst waiting for my car to be processed. Was strongly pressured into upgrading insurance - which I had already done through my original booking.
Requested car was a Kia Sportage, with a credit card deposit of £1,500. Instead I was assigned a Nissan Qashqai, and charged a deposit of £2,500. When I queried this, I was told that was the deposit for that car - but I didn’t request that car?!
Booking out form stated I had a 1/4 tank of fuel. Actual amount was 65 miles left - less than 1/8 tank. My journey was over 100 miles, resulting in an expensive local refill.
A big deal was made of the fact I hadn’t completed any forms - all I had was the original booking sent to me by Gotrentalcars.com. They refused to use my primary email address, insisting I use a gmail address. I was able to supply this, but I rarely use it. I received a parking fine, which was sent to this email address, but did not see it for a couple of weeks as I don’t use that email. There were several aggressive follow ups as my card on file had declined their admin fee - which was maxed out due to having been stuck in the uk thanks to the Middle Eastern war. 🙄 First I knew was when the charge appeared on my credit card - no acknowledgement that it had indeed been processed.
Car was returned with 3/4 tank fuel - no credit offered.
On returning the car I went to the main reception and was rudely directed to the returning point. No such instructions had been given on collection of the car of when to return it.
Overall a very poor experience- but I suppose you get what you pay for. However after travelling for over 30 hours, rudeness and pressure sales tactics do not go down well. If you have patience, and are prepared to spend over an hour collecting your hire car without losing your temper, go ahead and use them.

A disastrous experience at Green Motion Stansted, a dishonest company bordering on fraud (refusal to refund prepaid fuel, exorbitant administration fees, etc.).
I should have heeded the many negative customer reviews available on various websites.
Avoid at all costs !
* Edit after Green Motion reply : I already had contact with customer service.

UPDATE — Response to Green Motion's latest reply:
I appreciate the more detailed response this time. However, it raises more questions than it answers — and I would like to address each point directly and publicly, so that other customers can read both sides.
On the administration fee not being "profit-generating":
Green Motion states that the £68 fee covers the cost charged to them by the fleet provider. I have one simple question that has never been answered: how much does the fleet provider actually charge Green Motion per notice? If the real cost is £10 or £20, then the remaining amount charged to the customer is pure profit — regardless of what it is called. Until Green Motion provides a transparent breakdown, their claim that the fee is not profit-generating cannot be accepted.
On evidence — or the complete lack of it:
Green Motion charged my card £290 without providing a single piece of evidence for any violation. No photographs. No official notices. No documentation of any kind. When I formally requested proof, they told me they cannot provide it — only the issuing authority can. So let me be direct: Green Motion took £290 from my card for violations they cannot prove, and when asked for evidence, they openly admitted they have none to give. How am I supposed to know that these violations actually occurred? How am I supposed to know that I am not being defrauded? This is not a process — it is a blank invoice. No legitimate business charges a customer for something it cannot evidence. And when my bank blocked a further £68 attempt, it only confirmed that this pattern of charging without justification had gone far enough.
On the early payment discount:
Green Motion explains that the transfer of liability must be completed before I can pay the fine directly. I understand this. But this means Green Motion charged my card for administration fees before the transfer was even complete and before I had received any official notice. The timeline does not add up. If the authority re-issues the notice to me with discount options, why was £290 taken from my card before this process was finalised?
On the core issue that remains unanswered:
I paid £50 for a 3-day rental — approximately £17 per day. I was charged £290 in administration fees, with a further £68 attempt blocked by my bank. Green Motion has spent considerable effort explaining the mechanics of their process — but they have not once addressed whether this outcome is fair, proportionate, or ethical.
A personal note:
I have been a loyal Green Motion customer in Turkey for years, where I have always received excellent, professional, and transparent service. I chose Green Motion in London specifically because I trusted the brand. What I experienced at Green Motion Stansted is completely unrecognisable compared to what I know from Turkey. The name is the same. The values are not.
My outstanding questions for Green Motion:
1. What is the exact amount charged to Green Motion by the fleet provider per violation notice?
2. Why was my card charged before I received any official documentation from the issuing authority?
3. Does Green Motion consider it acceptable that a customer pays nearly 6 times their rental cost in administration fees?
4. Why is the £68 administration fee not displayed on Green Motion's website or on the booking platform before customers commit to a rental?
I remain willing to resolve this matter — but only on fair and evidenced terms. I will pay the actual fines at the correct discounted rate once I receive the official notices from the issuing authority. As for administration fees, I am willing to accept a single total administration fee of no more than £17 — equivalent to one day's rental — to cover all violations combined, and only upon receipt of verified proof for each violation. I will not pay a penny more than this without evidence. An unproven violation is not a violation. No evidence means no charge. That is not an unreasonable position — it is the basic standard that any honest business should be able to meet.

I had a terrible experience with Green Motion Albania (Reservation AL883694570). I had already paid for a Full Kasko insurance through AXA, but the staff refused to accept my debit card for the deposit.
The scam: They claimed my card was "invalid" for a deposit, but then immediately accepted the EXACT same card to charge me 150 EUR for their own local insurance. They pressured me because I was traveling with my family and had no choice.
Furthermore, the car (Dacia Sandero) was in poor condition with broken lights and a locked radio. The fuel policy in the contract was "Full-to-Full", but they gave me the car at 5/8.
Customer service just sends standard rejections. Do yourself a favor and book with a professional company instead. This felt like a setup to extract extra money from tourists

Reply from Green Motion International
Would not use again. Please avoid.
The cheap headline price was not worth it. On arrival there was a big push for expensive extra insurance, and the whole setup felt designed to upsell.
I picked the car up at night in poor light. The paperwork already showed existing damage to the alloy wheel / rim which I noted, yet when I returned it the next day, after only around two hours of driving, I was told there was damage to the tyre sidewall next to that existing rim damage, and that I had to pay or lose my £1,500 deposit. I absolutely did not hit a kerb or strike anything.
What should have been a simple rental turned into months of dispute, stress, and debt recovery emails over a relatively small amount of damage. In the end I paid just to make it stop.
My view: Green Motion operate in a way that feels predatory. Costs are stripped down to create an attractive headline price, service suffers badly, and if anything goes wrong, whether it was your fault or not, you may find yourself liable.

Booked car hire from Stansted Airport via Expedia. Upon trying to pick up the car, we were told that Green Motion don't rent cars to military personnel. This information wasn't provided via Expedia during the booking process. The person at the counter tried to blame us by saying that we should have done the pre check in online, but the pre check in was optional, not obligatory. Expedia and Green Motion refused to give us a refund even though this information wasn't given at the time of booking. The person at the counter tried to argue that this policy applied to all car rental companies, yet we have rented from different companies all over the world, including other London airports and have never been refused because of a military profession.

I missed my plane and had to pick up the car the day after. Believe it or not they charged me an extra fee for that! I talked to the supervisor who explained me it’s business policy. What a thief! It’s outrageous to justify a corporate robbery!
