Excellent service and deep knowledge

Excellent service and practice. I visited Dr Harpal due to ongoing lethargy and a series of minor health issues. After a deeply comprehensive consultation, I had my blood tests done, then after a couple of weeks received my report and follow up. This included prescriptions as well as lifestyle advice.

I was prescribed bio-identical hormone therapy, as well as an adrenal rebuilder programme. After just 2 weeks, my symptoms were noticeably lessened. After 3 months my energy levels were recovered, and my cycle had normalised.

Highly recommended - the most holistic, comprehensive, and effective thing I have ever done for my health!

Nice clinic, welcoming and helpful

Wanted to wait and see how treatment went before writing a review. Everything has gone great and I couldn't be happier. Only regret is not booking sooner as I'd been recommended this clinic by a friend a long time ago when I first started looking at private treatment for my hormone issues.

I was struggling with bad long Covid and but the main thing was complicated hormone stuff which the NHS had not been able (or willing) to help with. Brain fog for many years and also some other things. My Harpal Clinic doctor and the staff were really patient with me. The plan I was given and early hand-holding made me feel respected and heard but most importantly that they genuinely wanted to help me.

I’d recommend doing the discovery call which was really helpful to me, was given a lot of info without being pressured. The doctor consultation was great, really eye-opening. I'm still on a treatment plan and feel better than I've felt for at least 5 years but probably closer to a decade. If you have complex issues like mine I think this is a great place to go, because their consultation are much longer and more detailed than other places I've tried in the past.

Toxic, Micromanaged, and Emotionally Unsafe

I worked at Harpal Clinic and found the environment extremely micromanaged and tense. Staff were discouraged from normal interactions, and we had to post constant updates in a group chat, which felt more like surveillance than teamwork. Lunch breaks, sick days and even quick chats with colleagues were strictly policed, often unfairly, with clear double standards among staff.

Despite having great relationships with colleagues and patients of whom I miss, I was suddenly terminated in the middle of a workday, having to pack up my belongings and say goodbyes in front of patients, without warning or explanation. Several coworkers were shocked and upset, which showed how unexpected and distressing the situation was. Two even attempted to question management about what was happening.

Training and protocols were poorly handled, and rules were enforced inconsistently , leaving staff confused at times and not adequately supported. Overall, I left feeling humiliated, shaken, and emotionally unsafe. I would caution anyone considering working here to think carefully about whether this is an environment that truly respects and supports its staff.

Negative experience

I paid £775 for a Comprehensive Consultation which the website states "covers a wide range of concerns"
since I had a hormonal issue and a weight loss problem.

I then paid a further £1168 for 4 different blood tests

I was then given "conservative" hormonal dosages which meant that I had to return with further consultations at £395 each visit to slowly increase the hormone dose

Then if you dont buy the hormones from them I had to pay £60 for the prescription.

It still turned out less expensive to pay the £60 and buy at our local pharmacy.

After complaining to the clinic that since we only worked on one issue, I should have paid for the Focussed Consultation which only covers one core concern costing £475.

It was then explained that it would be too overwhelming for the body to deal with the hormones and the gut treatment at the same time so I was given a gratis consultation of 20 minutes

At this 3rd consultation I was given erroneous advice such as to take progesterone every day instead of the first 2 weeks of each month.

This meant that I was really taking double the correct dose which led to daily bleeding.

The oestrogen tablets prescribed increased the risk of deep vein thrombosis due to my heart condition.

I had to see a reputable gynaecologist to be properly treated

What a waste of 8 months and over £2000 spent which was not covered by insurance

Thank you for your feedback. Our records show that our clinical team reached out to you previously to discuss these concerns, we wanted to ensure we also addressed the points raised in your review for clarity.

Our clinic follows a "safety-first" protocol, which can sometimes result in a longer journey toward optimal dosing. We would like to clarify a few clinical points:

Hormonal Safety: Our practice uses bioidentical and body identical hormones. It is a common misconception to link these to DVT risks; however, modern clinical data distinguishes bioidentical hormones from the synthetic, non-identical versions used in older studies which carried those warnings.

Progesterone Protocols: While regimes vary, a daily progesterone dose is a recognized clinical approach often used specifically to stabilize and manage bleeding, rather than an error in prescription.

Clinical Judgement: When treating complex cases involving both hormones and gut health, our doctors must prioritize which system to stabilize first to ensure the patient is not overwhelmed. From our many years of experience, we have seen this first hand and have adjusted our protocols to prioritise safety as much as possible whilst also pushing for positive outcomes.

While we understand your frustration regarding the costs and the time taken, these protocols are in place to ensure the highest standard of patient safety. As we have previously been in contact regarding this matter, we wish you the very best in your continued health journey.

I was totally scammed by this clinic

I was totally scammed by this clinic. I paid then around 800 pound for falsely advertised services- a package that included 'food allergies' / candida etc. When the blood test was returned and didn't address these things, i was told that they meant a 'consultation' about them. So basically i say to them 'oh i have a headache when i eat eggs' and they say, try not eating eggs .... type of thing.

Additionally i had pre-asked how much ongoing menopause treatment would cost and was told approx £50 a month. After i had paid for the package and testing etc, they told me it would infact be around £200, and that if i sourced the hormones myself, they would charge £80 for a Dr to sign the prescription.

Additionally, this 'package' took around 8 months to conclude, with cancelled appointments, lost blood tests etc, during which i endured awful HRT symptoms.

I then found a private FUNCTIONAL DR in Sloane Square, was tested in week, appointment and tests were £180 and ongoing FOUR HORMONE treatment £60 a month. He was also horrified by this clinic.

I did try to complain, but just got 'sorry you are disappointed with our services' nonsense.

Dear Adrienne,

You came to us in 2021, not July 2023. You were dissatisfied then - for reasons that were out of our control (e.g. our emails to you going to your spam) and other reasons like not completely understanding our service as listed on our website (keeping in mind that the hundreds of other patients have access to the same information but we don't get the same complaint). You then wrote a google review to which we responded in great detail, as your timelines/recollection were not accurately reflecting ours - as documented in our booking system. I'm not sure why you feel the need to once again bring this up. We did invite you then to reach out to us for a chance to resolve things further if you still felt that it wasn't addressed. I've copied our response from the Google review as a reminder below:

"Just to clarify, your initial appointment was undertaken 2 weeks after the date it was originally booked for. A written report from the doctor was sent to you 1 week later. We understand that it was unfortunately in your spam folder so you did not see it until much later. The delay in the initial consultation resulted from rescheduling twice; on our end the first time and your end the second time as per the correspondence you had with the clinic.

We are not a service where the patient sees us as a means to solely get access to medications. The first step, which is an extremely detailed assessment, brings back the high value of specialist doctors actually practising what we're meant to practice - the art of listening, and then putting the pieces of the puzzle together. This process informs the doctors about what a patient requires in terms of testing, in order to recommend the most relevant tests for the individual patient. Keeping in mind that niche functional testing is expensive, they are not available for the cost that you suggest.

Good quality intolerance testing alone ranges from a couple hundred to over a thousand pounds, depending on what you're looking for and the lab used. Gut testing is reserved for patients where it’s indicated and we believe that the results will change how we treat the patient.

In terms of medications, it is important to distinguish between compounded bioidentical hormones and generic body identical hormones. There are very few compounding pharmacies in the UK and the £65 (not £80) you're suggesting cannot cover 4 hormones for 3 months. When we discuss costs upfront, it's based on what's typically required and will be different for everyone depending on what the doctor decides is necessary after consultation and testing. The cost is also based on generic body identical hormones which suits many patients. Compounding always costs more.

Our practice is a combination of functional medicine plus bioidentical hormones at the same sitting. Our doctors are highly trained and experienced in combining these two separate but complementary treatment modalities. Total doctor time for the consultation that you had with us is 2.5 hours; with 2 hours being doctor facing time. We charge extremely reasonably compared to other clinics that offer a similar service. Clinics such as ours are not comparable to hormone only clinics where the typical consultation rarely goes beyond 30 mins.

Overall, it seems like ours wasn't a service you were looking for, which it appears from your comment, was a more basic service simply for a doctor to prescribe for you. Signature on a prescription isn't only a signature. It carries responsibility with it which affects medical indemnity, and the practitioner is ultimately responsible for the medication that they have prescribed. We work proactively with patients to assess their overall health and concerns, use labs to confirm our findings, and create a holistic bespoke treatment plan which incorporates many components and isn't only medication heavy.

Kindly contact us if you feel like you would like any further clarifications. Otherwise we wish you all the best in health."

Concerns About Clinic Staff Efficiency

The clinic staff was extremely disorganised and unprofessional. I usually only write reviews when the service is notably POOR.

P.S.: This review does not reflect on Dr. Curran's service, who is exceptionally professional and friendly!

It is indeed disappointing that you feel the need to copy and paste the same review on google and here. We have already responded to you on google. I also looked at other reviews you've written and it seems like you deal with many companies where staff are a 'mess' (I noticed that you have since removed this term from your original review!). However, for what we charge our patients - non-concierge pricing - we simply cannot be available 24/7 and do apologise if not being able to get to you straight away with 2 hours at night is not within our remit as a wellness clinic ( we are not acute medicine). As you experienced, we did get back to you within 14 hours, 8 of which my staff were asleep, and offered you 2 complementary consults with both a doctor and a nurse - all within a 20 hour period from an out-of-hour non-urgent email complaint. We care, we genuinely do but we cannot uphold unreasonable targeting of our extremely dedicated staff, many of whom have been with us a long time and are frequently mentioned by name in our 5 star reviews by happy and satisfied patients. Mean spirited reviews like this does affect people, especially when they really do try their best - I urge you to think carefully in future before posting reviews such as this. I also welcome you to explain what exactly is poor - whilst we cannot control things like providing a 24/7 service (without going under) and the delays from the pharmacy deliveries (apparently another thing that my staff inform me you are not happy about - despite us clearly stating that it isn't a 24 hour delivery for some items), other service centred things we take very seriously and genuinely want to improve.

As a reminder, please see our response on google:

"Thank you for your review Will. I looked into this and am quite confused by why you felt that the clinic admin team deserved a one star review. You reached out to us at 8pm (after hours) and we responded by 9.45am the next day; offered 2 consultations with a nurse and your doctor for the next day itself (both complimentary). The issue (uncommon but neither rare, nor urgent) was then dealt with in good time and speed. We have all correspondence on record if you would like us to share this with you.
Ours is a very personal and bespoke business and as such, the staff take a lot of effort with all our patients. With the nature of such bespoke businesses, occasionally things require tweaking. It isn't a one size fits all. We cannot know how people will react to different things. The staff are highly trained and try their best as they are passion driven and choose to work within such clinics that align with their vision.
If you could kindly explain which element of your service is subpar, keeping in mind things that we cannot do due to Good Medical Practice standards, we are happy to investigate this further. You know the team well and have been with us for over a year with minimal issues, do let us know if you would like to speak to someone specific to discuss the specific issue that you felt could have been handled better."
