Scam avoid at all costs

Scam avoid at all costs

Received a call from a man regarding my car for sale on Auto trader. He had an accent but gave a very English name and said he was from a town quite near me (had done his research). He asked me to provide a HPI report which I did via a reputable site. He claimed it wasn't "complete" and sent me this website and told me to buy another HPI report.

I began the process even though alarm bells were ringing, but the man pressured me with messages and lies about coming over if he could just have a better report. At this point (thankfully) my bank got involved and stopped my card stating it was a scam company running from Pakistan.

They re issued my card instantly and blocked the transaction from taking place.

As a private seller I'm under no obligation to provide a HPI report anyway. The onus is on the buyer to do any further checks. Duly reported to action fraud, the police, Autotrader and of course my bank.

Anyway even after informing him I was aware it's a scam he still tried to convince me it wasn’t so I had to block his number.

Did scare me as he had my details and I’m just glad I have security cameras and 2 big ass dogs!
