Scam avoid at all costs

Received a call from a man regarding my car for sale on Auto trader. He asked me to provide a HPI report which I did as I already had one. He claimed it wasn't "complete" and sent me this website and told me to buy another HPI report. This is when alarm bells started ringing, as a private seller I'm under no obligation to provide a HPI report anyway. The onus is on the buyer to do any further checks.

Anyway even after informing him I was aware it's a scam he still tried to convince me, of course he failed in doing so.

Also be aware this man has also left a so called positive review. This website and outfit needs shutting down immediately.

Suspicious Website & Scammer Behaviour

I was selling a car on Gumtree and received a call from a potential buyer (caller Id showed Dumbarton location). After explaining some details he recommended this website (vinchronicle) to get a "full" HPI report for him.

I looked it up and became suspicious after seeing scam warnings. I then said that I was under no obligation to provide this check as a private seller. As other reviewers have mentioned, the onus is on the buyer to carry out checks NOT the seller. At this point he told me to "f off" and hung up the phone!

He also offered to reimburse me £18.99 for the basic check which invites the question, why doesn't he just do it himself if he's willing to spend the money?

Also, some of the scam detector sites have ranked this website (vinchronicle) poorly meaning that it is likely to be a scam plus it has only been operational for a month. Furthermore, if you look at the content on the website then there are some strange things like the reviews and tuning packages!

In summary, this website doesn't seem genuine + the poor behaviour from the rep only makes it worse.

Totally worth it.

I recently used vinchronicle for the report of my vehicle, And I was quite surprised with the accuracy and the details they provided at a lower cost.

Scammers trying to steal credit card…

Scammers trying to steal credit card details. Called me with an Indian accent saying his name was James about an auto trader and and tried to get me to pay for a vehicle check on this site. His WhatsApp photo is a white guy that clearly isn't him.

Tried to scam me via Autotrader.

Tried to scam me via Autotrader.

They called showing interest in the car I had for sale on Autotrader. After a couple of questions they asked for a HPI check and said it was a huge red flag if I didn't have a HPI check done by the website they directed me to.

I called Autotrader who told me it appears to be scam so they blocked the number but they called from another number. When I told them that I know they're a scam and that i'm not interested, the callers response was "Fk you".

What a charming gentleman from such an esteemed organisation.

Don't buy anything from them.

It's a quite useful company, To get the reports from. I have personally been using it for around 4 months and everytime I sell or buy a car, I prefer Vinchronicle over any site. ( Fyi I am talking about UK )

Scammers

Scammers! I was selling my car through auto trader and got a call from someone who was interested in buying my car. They asked for a hpi check which I then did and provided through a different site. They then told me to use this site as some info was missing (which was incorrect as he was listing things that I had already provided to him) so I told him that I did not want to go through this site as everything is already provided. He told me he would reimburse the cost which doesn’t make sense as to why I need to do it if he was gonna pay for it. I did some research and found a review exactly the same as mine. Please beware of this company when selling your car!

Tried to scam me through auto trader

Selling a car on auto trader, got a call from a man who wanted me to use this site specifically to do a car check. I checked out the site before I used it. Used a more reputable site instead because I didnt trust this one. They kept claiming to reimburse me when they would come to buy the car. Told them they can do their own search seeing as they would reimburse me it made no difference. Car check I had done with reputable company showed all the information they needed. Still tried to persuade me to use this site he had "used before" abolsute scammers. Beware
