I enquired why I could not buy shares in a major US pharma co (on the S&P500). I was informed that, because it has "a connection to cannabis", I could not buy them - but I could sell them. I said that cannabis is prescribed legally in the UK by pharma companies so prevention of purchase, for that reason, made their decision ludicrous. These shares are also available on many other UK platforms.
I also enquired how to participate in an upcoming IPO - "we don't participate in IPO's"!!
I am considering other platforms ASAP.

I have dealt with iWeb for many years and have never had any problems with them. Recently I had occasion to use the live chat facility and my heart sunk when I found myself speaking to a bot. However it very quickly transpired that this initial contact was merely an introduction and I was transferred to a human being reasonably quickly and that person was able to answer my question. I have no hesitation in recommending iWeb.

I've been happy with iWeb for years but recently discovered they do not allow you to vote by proxy for any US stock you hold with them. I have been able to do this just fine through Trading212, Freetrade, AJ Bell, so why are they not supporting this ?

This is the answer I received:
"This cant be done of how US Shares are held specifically, we as a company are not recognised as the holder of the shares by the companies holding the meeting themselves, so we would not be directly notified of the meetings and would have to chase via multiple third-party companies to get the details needed to vote. This is not always something we can get and so we might be left in a position we are unable to vote at all"

It's not a deal breaker but certainly disappointing and I will think twice now when buying US stocks via their platform in case I wanted to exercise my voting rights for them at some point.

I've been using iweb for over 10 years, never had a problem and have found the service excellent. Today I had to contact them with a query (I was unable to sell a share) and got the problem sorted pretty quickly. It's only the third time I've had to contact them directly and the service has been consistently good.

There are some things I'd like to see such as trade confirmations included in the email rather than having to log on and download them or an ability to have several views of the portfolio so I can see how a particular group of shares are performing etc. I'd also like an API so I can query the portfolio but other than that, iweb suit my cautious needs very well at a good price.

I've been with iWeb for many years, not sure how long. I originally moved to them based on cost, as I have very demands, no complicated transactions and no advice. I've always found them straight forward to deal with and my one gripe, lack of android app, is being addressed.
I have recently undertaken my most complex transaction with them, ie transferring Sharesave shares to a S&S ISA. It's due to complete next week and has, so far, been a fairly easy process.
I have found them communicative and easy to deal with up to now.

Emily-Rose was very helpful in clarifying something trivial for a seasoned investor, but less so for me. Very patient and helpful.

This company actually has humans who answer your queries quickly [ and efficiently]. Its faster it seems if you are a customer, and by phone or chat .

It was a simple question and was handled quickly and with full explanation. It's only about the third time I have had to ask anything despite the long time that I have had an IWeb account...........the service has always been helpful and runs exceedingly smoothly.

I have reviewed iWeb mainly when I find an issue. As a platform it is well priced and serves the purpose, however occassionally their service or lack thereof can cost one money - how much is hard always to quantify - you decide.

THEY DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN RETAIL OFFERS ON THEIR CUSTOMERS' BEHALF.

As a shareholder you are sometimes entitled to apply for shares at a discount to current price during a Retail offer. iWeb does not allow you to do so if you are holding the shares in you iWeb account.

Who knows how many shares you would have got or whether they would perform, but you could miss out on hundreds or thousands of pounds - who knows?

Today was a day one could apply for 3p Revolution Beauty shares if you were a shareholder - let's see where they go!!

ii (interactive investor) do however so perhaps they should be your choice for a low cost provider.
