Big upcharge when you pick up the car

Be very careful booking with these people I booked three company called economy, bookings, and paid for all the insurance there when I arrived to get my car they said there was no insurance and I had to pay for insurance and they charge me double what I already paid for the car very dishonest place to do business with. I would suggest you use one of the more known car rental agencies.

Thank you for your review, but let us explain.
First of all, on our partner website, it's mentioned if you read their T&C and also information about their insurance, that the insurance from them it's not a protection for the car.
To continue, on your confirmation voucher from them, it's mentioned the deposit you need to block in order to pick up the car.
Once you arrive at the office, you have two options in order to pick-up the car:
1. Deposit option ( mentioned on your voucher);
2. Insurance option ( covers the car and you don't have responsability for it).
After presenting you both of the options, it's up to you which one you would like to choose.
Mentioning all of the above, we are very transparent with every information/details about renting a car with us, that also can be found on our T&C from our website klasswagen.com .
Hope this clarifies the situation.

I have booked car rental services with…

I have booked car rental services with the company for several times already. I am happy with the experience and the staff for both reservations and pickup services. Price are competitive although they extra charge for border crossings. I will repeat on my next trip.

Unreliable Service and Poor Hygiene Standards for Child Seats

OTP-2340180373972 - Disappointing experience and lack of professionalism
I have been a customer in the past, however this time I clearly noticed a decline in the quality of service. Since the location downsized, things seem to have gone from bad to worse… although maybe we were just unlucky.
I booked a manual mini SUV online, specifically because I am used to higher cars with manual transmission, and travelling with a young child while arriving at night was not the moment for experiments.
I also completed the Express Pick-up to save time, but in reality I ended up waiting almost an hour. Their contact system is frustrating, you only get a robot, automated links, and you cannot speak to a real person unless you select that you want to make a new booking.
At pick-up, without any prior notice, the manual car I had booked (or even one from the same category) was no longer available and I was offered an automatic car, presented as an “upgrade”. For me, this was not an upgrade, but a risk given the circumstances (night time + young child)
After discussions, being tired and with an exhausted child, I ended up accepting an estate car, as these were apparently the only manual options available and even this was presented as a “favor”
What bothered me the most is that in the official documents they stated the reason for the change as:
“does not know how to drive automatic” which is completely unprofessional and offensive.
On top of that, I had also booked a child seat… the experience was shocking: dirty seats, stacked on top of each other, with no visible protection or hygiene. Completely unacceptable when it comes to a child’s safety.
I will try to raise awareness about this company.
I do not recommend it if you are looking for a predictable and professional experience.

To properly locate and review your case, we always need the reservation number. This allows us to investigate exactly what happened and address the situation with the relevant team.

Regarding the shuttle service, the contact system requires the full completion of the provided link in order to directly connect you with the driver. Once completed, the driver receives your message and can coordinate the pickup more efficiently.

At the pickup location, we also offer the possibility to choose the child seat that best suits your needs, depending on availability, so we can ensure the safest and most appropriate option for your child.

That said, we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by the change of vehicle, the long waiting time, and especially the unprofessional wording you were shown in the documentation. This is not the standard we aim to provide, and we take your comments about vehicle allocation, cleanliness, and service quality very seriously.

Évitez absolument Klass Wagen

Absolutely avoid Klass Wagen

Absolutely avoid Klass Wagen. When I rented a car through Ryanair near Porto Airport, the agency refused my bank card on 09/03/2026, even though it is clearly identified as a CREDIT card (the word “CREDIT” appears first, in full compliance with Visa/Mastercard rules). This refusal was unjustified and clearly intended to force me into purchasing an additional, very expensive insurance, without which I was told I would not be able to pick up the vehicle.

This is forced selling — an abusive commercial practice. My original booking did not include this insurance, and no alternative was offered.

I had to pay for the imposed insurance in order to leave, which is unacceptable. I am currently in a dispute process with DECO Proteste, ASAE, and my bank to contest this charge.

I strongly advise against this company:
• unjustified refusal of a valid payment method
• commercial pressure
• forced insurance
• complete lack of transparency

There are far more reliable and customer‑friendly rental companies in Portugal.

Please note that your response below is irrelevant. The arrangements made for this rental fully complied with your contractual requirements and with international banking regulations for Visa and Mastercard. It should be noted that bank cards marked with "CREDIT" are credit cards and must be accepted as such—this is the law! You are clearly acting in bad faith, and then some, which cannot go unanswered. Therefore, we have decided to take legal action with our bank and the relevant Portuguese authorities.

Regarding the rental conditions, we would like to clarify that every customer must choose one of two options when picking up the vehicle:

• The general option: to block a security deposit on a Visa or MasterCard credit card issued in the main driver’s name. This is a mandatory requirement, as in the event of damages or contractual charges, we cannot hold a third party financially responsible. Please note that cards with multiple functions (such as debit/credit combined cards) are not accepted.

• The second option: to purchase the “Risk 0” Service, which reduces the deposit to 0 and removes any financial responsibility for potential damages to the vehicle.

It is not possible to proceed with the rental without selecting one of these two options.

While many intermediary websites offer their own insurance products, these are third-party insurances and differ from our local Risk 0 coverage. When third-party insurance is selected, the security deposit is still required at pick-up, and in the event of damage, the amount is initially charged from the deposit. The customer may then submit a claim to their third-party insurer for reimbursement.

Ultimately, it is the customer’s decision which option to choose. However, if any rental requirement is not fully met, the Risk 0 insurance becomes mandatory.

We regret that this situation caused frustration, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve our communication and customer service.

Because zero stars isn't an option

Absolutely outstanding experience… if your goal is to feel confused, overcharged, and slightly robbed.

I booked a VW Golf, paid in advance—simple enough, right? Upon arrival, I was proudly handed a Renault Captur instead. Smaller category, of course. When I politely asked for the car I actually paid for, the solution was brilliant: just pay an extra €5/day. Genius. I declined, because I enjoy not paying twice for the same thing.

I took the Captur anyway (because at this point, what choice do you really have?), only to discover it had steering issues. Returned it immediately—more wasted time—and got upgraded… to a VW Taigo. Yes, another smaller car. At this stage, consistency is the only thing they truly deliver.

Also noticed the car clearly wasn’t serviced. But hey, who needs maintenance when you have sarcasm to survive the experience?

Then comes the flexibility part. I extended the rental online for 5 more days. Plans changed, so naturally I asked for a refund for unused days. Their customer-first response?
“No refunds. But here’s a 3-day voucher.”
Because nothing says “we value you” like forcing you to come back.

On another occasion, I tried to extend a rental again. Funny enough, extending was significantly more expensive than returning the car and renting it again. Called them to clarify and got the most elegant solution possible:
“If you don’t like it, bring the car back now.”
Customer service at its finest.

And let’s not forget payment methods. Want to pay with Mastercard at their office? That’ll be an extra €3 per day. Because apparently, even your choice of card deserves a daily tax.

Honestly, it’s impressive. Every step of the process manages to lower expectations even further.
It’s just a shame the minimum rating is one star.

Thank you for the enlightening explanation — it truly cleared everything up.

I had no idea that a Volkswagen Golf is now considered a “lower class” than a Renault Captur or a Volkswagen Taigo. That’s fascinating. Decades of automotive classification must have been wrong all along — glad we finally set the record straight.

Also, I appreciate the innovative pricing model where extending a rental costs more than starting a new one. It really encourages customers to… not extend.

As for the voucher instead of a refund — thank you for pointing out it’s in the terms and conditions. Because obviously, nothing builds trust like paying for a service you don’t use and being rewarded with the opportunity to come back and try again.

Regarding the payment explanation, I must have missed the part where a simple transaction turns into a surcharge experience. I’ll be sure to consult my bank next time before choosing which card is “acceptable enough” for your office.

Overall, I’m genuinely impressed. It’s rare to see a company respond to feedback not by addressing the issue, but by confidently explaining why the problem is, in fact, the customer’s misunderstanding.

Please note that the VW Golf is considered a lower class compared to the Captur and Taigo, which fall into a higher category than the Golf (SFMR).

Regarding the price for extending the reservation, it is calculated based on the current rate at the time of extension. This means it may sometimes be higher than the price at the moment of the original booking.

Concerning the voucher, this information is included in our terms and conditions: the customer will receive a 3-day voucher for additional services.

Additionally, if the payment is made with a card in a different currency, a conversion fee may apply. Unfortunately, this is determined by the bank, and we are not able to influence it. We also cannot pre-authorize the amount in EUR.

Simple, straightforward, fast

We were picked up quickly from the airport and driven to the rental office. The car was handed over quickly. The car was in perfect working order. The return process was hassle-free. We were then driven back to the airport. Great service—just the way it should be.

Absolutely do not recommend Klass Wagen.

The experience at pickup was awful. The agent was aggressive, intimidating, and nearly forcing us to buy their full insurance, even though we already had coverage through Booking.com. He used fear tactics, repeatedly saying that if anything happened we would have to pay ourselves.

He even lied, telling us that if the car got a scratch we would need a police report or the insurance from Booking.com would not accept the claim. This was clearly just a tactic to scare customers into buying their expensive insurance.

To make it worse, he kept reminding us that we had rented the car “very cheap” through Booking.com and made it sound like we should now feel obligated to pay for their insurance. That is not the customer’s responsibility and felt extremely manipulative.

You only get 30 minutes to photograph every defect on the car, and their upload website barely worked. Unsurprisingly, when we returned the car they suddenly found a scratch on the roof — the only place I had not photographed. They overcharged us, and I had to chase them myself to get the detailed damage report because they never sent it within the promised 3 business days.

Only after I called did they refund part of the wrongly charged amount. It honestly makes me wonder if they would have refunded anything if I had stayed quiet.

This company gives the impression that they are constantly looking for ways to pressure customers and squeeze extra money out of them.

Never again. Next time I will stick with a larger international rental company with proper customer service and honest practices.

Check car before signing contract


The car was not very clean, and the windshield was cracked. When I asked for an upgrade, they said it would cost an extra €80.
There was no valid copy of the insurance in the glove compartment, there was one, but it was expired since 2024.
I’ve always rented from Klass Wagen when traveling to Romania, but this time I was very disappointed. I will try another company on my next trip.

I got surprised- you try to not

With word of “similar” KW does whatever they want, doesn’t matter what you choose or what you want. Doesn’t matters if you choose for new car or not , you receive whatever is there, on the other hand , I chosen for second driver, I paid and suddenly due to health issues he couldn’t join me , I asked KW to change the second driver name, but they asked for additional service due to this will be third driver , I explained the second driver cannot join me , but this was the answer,.
Recommendation: don’t waste your time to choose or scroll KW website, directly go to the desk they will give you whatever they want, then you won’t be surprised.
P.S: this was my third experience with them

Regarding the request for a new car, please note that, as stated in our terms and conditions, if a specific model or a “new car” is not available, we will provide a similar vehicle or a free upgrade. Alternatively, if the “new car” service is not available, the corresponding fee is not charged. In your case, a similar vehicle from the selected category was provided, as we cannot guarantee an exact model, only a car within the same class or better, depending on availability at that time. Additionally, as mentioned in your review, no extra fee for a new car was charged.

Concerning the drivers, there was no third driver added to the reservation. The booking included the main driver and one additional driver, which was selected at the time of reservation. At the office, the documents for the additional driver were presented, and there were multiple changes regarding whether to include this driver or not. After further discussions with our colleagues and some hesitation regarding proceeding with the rental, the decision was finalized, and the vehicle was picked up approximately one hour later. Our team also noted that you mentioned usually having an additional driver when using the vehicle.

We regret any inconvenience or confusion experienced during this process. However, we would like to emphasize that no extra charges were applied for a new car, and, as per our terms and conditions, we cannot guarantee a specific model,only a similar or upgraded vehicle based on availability at the time of pickup.

Great experience!

Great experience! The guys are very helpful! It takes a little to do the check of the car with picture, etc. (it is done online, so have your mobile ready to access the internet). They proposed another insurance with a lower amount blocked on the credit card, but for the moment I haven't taken it, because I had already paid for another insurance. The car was new and very good.
