Happy to work at Kolabtree and nice experience. But there is no option to add the fee for an extra milestone. After completing the project still status is ongoing.

It was from a verified client, I was happy with the project assigned with clear instructions and the client was also happy with the finished project. Kolabtree was new for me and I must say the experience was really great, easy, and very transparent. Now I know where to go with my projects, especially for those that require some specialist skillsets.

I've only been on the platform for about a month (during the holidays!) but have already had two great encounters; understanding clients with no payment issues. And I've had similarly pleasant interactions and possible future collaborations with others. I really like the academic focus of the platform (though a disproportionate number of listings appear to be related to chemistry/product development, which is not my area of expertise), and the fact that a simple, (pricy!) 20% charge is levied on bills; which is not prorated to lifetime billing, e.g., nor are proposals charged. And the website/platform works quite well and is well-organized in most ways, with a few exceptions: It's necessary to duplicate tabs since there's no context menu for the alert icon entries; projects cannot apparently be filtered above budget thresholds nor subject matter, and past proposals are grouped in a bit of an unruly heap which can be handled with some filters but is wanting nonetheless. Overall, I'm happy with the platform, but it feels a little 'bare-bones.'

My client released the funds over a month ago, Kolabtree charged me the fee, yet I do not have access to "MY" money in my Payoneer account. I sent dozens of messages and received nothing. "ANY". No apologies. As another scientist exposing their hardships with this site here, I am also currently evaluating a lawsuit against them. I hope someone from the company finds out how bad they are as a company and changes

I am finding Kolabtree extremely frustrating. While the layout and the format is not as well organized as Upwork, I liked the fact that it is geared towards scientist. I was excited for my first project on the platform. I got a contract, I started working on it and I kept updating the client on the progress. Unfortunately there was no feedback from the client. When I delivered the final product, I never heard back from him. I have contacted customer support at Kolabtree and they told me they were going to contact the client. Later they told me that they have not heard from him yet. Unfortunately customer service keeps dodging my questions on how long will it take for them to release the funds in escrow if they do not hear from the client. So far, it looks like, they will either return the funds to him or keep it to themselves. Definitely not worth my time to work with them again, it takes more time to try and get paid then actually doing the work. I wish they had a policy like Upwork to release funds if they do not hear from client within 14 days.

Edit: I am editing this review changing the rating from 1 star to 3 stars to reflect that eventually Kolabtree released the funds and started becoming more responsive. The New rating is 3 stars and not higher because they started handling things right only after I wrote this review. I hope, I can give them a 5 star rating in the future if they start fixing problems before you write them a negative review.

Very good experience. Easy to find and connect with a freelancer with the skills I needed. The GUI is also excellent and made it easy to navigate and communicate. I gave 4 rather than 5 stars because one difficulty I had was with payments. My institution (a university) would allow payment to the wallet ONLY after receiving an official invoice, but Kolabtree will only provide an invoice after the host pays the freelancer from the wallet. We found a work-around but it slowed us down considerably. I will continue working with Kolabtree if they can resolve this issue and find a way to accommodate the purchasing protocols at universities.

The 20% service fee seems too high and makes it much harder to fit within typical client budgets. It would also be preferable if this service fee was client-funded and not freelancer-funded, so that freelancers don't have to deal with the tax deduction on this fee.

The curation of projects could be improved. The majority of recommended projects are low quality: either too low of a budget, not relevant to my experience, or an unreasonable scope of work. The projects by verified clients do seem to be of higher quality.

The process for bidding on a project also feels clunky. Often specific milestones and deadlines cannot easily be established based on the small project description provided by the client; some sort of back and forth discussion is needed to establish these details. It seems to me it would be easier to just describe why my experience is a good fit for a given project, the client can decide if I'm a good fit, and then we can discuss to determine milestones and deadlines. Having to determine these beforehand in the proposal leads to wasted time and effort.

Kolabtree is efficient and professional! Swift responses; timely payment; and professionalism.

I asked for a simple data-mining service. I waitet much longer for the delivery than agreed inititally with the freelancer. The freelancer never delivered. Kolabtree agreed to abort the project, however, I have never received back my payment (that was secured on kolabtree as a 'security' for the feelancer, which was 400 USD).

So, not only had I to do the entire work again (after loosing several months with the freelancer and asking for corrections that never happened), I have also lost 400 USD (which kolabtree just keeps without any justification).

Therefore, I absolutely not recommend to use this platform. I also never received an answer from Kolabtree. I really feel scammed and angry at this point of thime.

Update: Afer this review and several more e-mails, I have received a refund - so changed the review. However, since this was quite a timeeffort I have not given the 5 stars.

A client took the source code for the project and did not pay me. The team at Kolabtree did not do anything about it. They can't offer protection to their freelancers.

I do not recommend this platform.

Contacted support to delete the account 6 months ago and still no response. My profile is still on and I keep getting spam from something I no longer use.

By the way, not allowing freelancers to delete the accounts without contacting support is absurd.

Edit. The problem was solved one day after this review. I acknowledge how fast it was, but I am not changing the review because not being able to delete the account whenever you want is terrible.

The platform is easy to use in general and allows for a fluent relationship with the client.
The main drawback found so far is the difficullty to change baking details. This is something that should be fixed. Also I found impossible to modify or add new milestones (and change fees) to an ongoing project. A new process has to be opened in case you need any ampliation of a current project.
