A Hosting Purchase Treated Like a Criminal Investigation

I tried to buy hosting for my active VAT-registered UK company, but because I live in Turkiye, my order was flagged for manual review.

What followed was absurd. For a simple hosting purchase, I was asked to provide:

a photo of myself holding my passport or other government-issued ID
a recent utility bill
matching personal details across all documents

Let that sink in. This is hosting, not a mortgage application, a bank loan, or a border control interview.

I was not trying to buy a physical product and disappear with it. I was trying to pay in advance for a one-year hosting service for a legitimate UK company. Even the payment itself was made from my business account and approved through the app.

I understand reasonable fraud checks. What I do not understand is why a normal business customer should be expected to send a selfie holding a passport just to buy hosting. Because I live in a country they do not like? That certainly feels discriminatory, as others here have also pointed out.

This level of verification is excessive, intrusive, and frankly ridiculous. It feels disproportionate, outdated, and completely detached from what a normal customer experience should look like in a global digital industry.

If your onboarding process effectively tells international business owners, “you are suspicious until proven otherwise,” that is not good security practice. It is just bad customer experience dressed up as compliance.

There are many hosting providers in 2026. I will gladly take my business to one that understands the difference between sensible verification and treating customers like potential criminals.

I wanted to buy hosting for my UK company from a UK provider. Instead, I got a lesson in how to lose a customer before the service even begins. I will certainly be sharing this experience with others.

Brilliant only a short period in but…

Brilliant only a short period in but the help and information they've given us in moving our website especially not being a website builder or having any knowledge myself they've made everything go smooth and pointed me in the right directions from start to finnish. Still in process of moving over to them as a host for our website but can already tell you that these guys are the real deal in wanting to provide the best service. Dont hessistate to make the jump you wont regret it and these will help you as much as they possibly can!

As a new customer to Krystal

As a new customer to Krystal, the support while setting up my domains and hosting, has been great. They've got guides for most topics, and if not, the support chat are prompt and polite.

Besides that, the service looks like good classic CPanel hosting.

Great customer support experience.

I had an issue with a payment that was my mistake, but the support team was very helpful and responsive. They guided me through the process and helped me resolve everything quickly.

Krystal are brilliant!

As always when I encounter problems that are way above my skillset Krystal Customer Service delivers above & beyond with a rapid response. Due to a change in business needs I no longer needed the same level of account which meant everything needed migrating - sites were restored, emails restored & everything up and running again within less than 24 hours (only reason for this was the information I needed to provide). I cannot recommend Krystal enough - big shout out to Kris who has helped me today (Bank Holiday).

Amazing service

Having used other hosting providers in the past, Krystal is miles ahead in every respect. From the speed of their servers to the responsiveness, helpfulness, and knowledge of their support team, they are excellent. I would happily recommend Krystal to anyone.

Almost excellent

For circa 30 years I have used an ISP in Gloucestershire, UK. Having my websites put onto WordPress, developer wanted to work with his friend's hosting company in USA. Everything was ok until late 2025 when USA friend announced sold his company. End of friendship. Developer suggested Krystal. Wish I'd known about K before USA. Almost excellent.

Absolutely outstanding service from Krystal Hosting!

recently migrated my website, ajgreenguitartuition.co.uk, from another provider, and I can honestly say the experience was superb from start to finish. Their telephone support team were incredibly helpful, friendly, patient, and highly knowledgeable. They walked me through the entire process and made what could have been a stressful migration feel easy and well-managed.

The performance improvement has been huge. My website is now noticeably faster, smoother, and far more reliable than it ever was before. It’s made a real difference not just to me, but to my visitors as well.

I genuinely wish I’d found Krystal sooner. If you’re thinking about switching hosting providers, I couldn’t recommend them highly enough!

Clear, patient and genuinely supportive

I recently needed help looking into an issue with how my site was being read by external services, and the support from Krystal was excellent throughout. Replies were clear, patient and genuinely thorough, and it was reassuring to feel that someone was taking the time to check things properly rather than offering a quick, generic fix.

The whole process felt calm and well‑supported, and I really appreciated the steady, human approach while everything worked itself through. It made a noticeable difference at a point where the situation could easily have felt stressful. Thank you!

Bait and Switch B-Corp!

This company did not fully disclose its fees yet insisted I pay these extra costs before they could fully move my website files over. Rather than take responsibility and waive the extra cost as a goodwill gesture, they rather made excuses and insisted I pay the hidden cost. It was cringe-worthy and not quite how a proper B-Corp company should behave.

Claiming to offer telephone support, I rang but hardly anyone answers the phone. One person who answered yelled and would barely let me speak. Terrible experiences which made relocation more difficult than it should be.

I moved again (very quickly) and ended up with a better web hosting company - thankfully.
