Easy process, you place your order, they send you the kit, easy instructions, ship back and wait. Routine updates go on what you sent. Quality was excellent, my vhs tapes were over 30 years old, but now they are preserved forever.
Will definitely be using Legacy Box again.

Very professional. They keep you posted on every step of the way. I didn’t expedite the process so it was slow but reasonable. You can trust them with your memories.

Everything was explained and laid out for us. Took a while but was told that and expected. Wish there was a way to digitally enhance our stuff cause it was older but not disappointed. Thank you. With my
Parents gone it has persevered
What we had of a lot of memories. We will be sending more as we have enough
To do another box.

All the specifics were laid out in an organized way. It was so easy to organize my tapes, pack them up and send them off. I never worried about anything. I was notified when my tapes arrived at LegacyBox, when they were ready for viewing, and when they would be returned. I can highly recommend LegacyBox. It was so good to be able to review our videos and relive the memories. Thank you.

You kept me informed about my order at every step. Once my videos were processed, they were easy to access on your website, and my original videos were returned today. I am extremely satisfied with the experience.

I have now completed digitizing ALL of my old Beta and VHS tapes (150+ tapes in small batches over the past 2 years). Because I have been so impressed with Legacy Box’s process, and more importantly their results, I am now about halfway through digitizing my dad’s old slides. I have nothing but great things to say about this company and I sleep so much better knowing all of this old media is preserved for my children and grandchildren!!! FIVE STARS OUT OF FIVE STARS!!!! The clarity of the tapes—some 40 years old—was amazing! Both my parents have passed and I have them back whenever I want to see them! Also getting to watch my baby grow up again…words cannot express how special that is!

Our local post office delivered to wrong address but thats not your fault. Shame that we had such terrible movie takers back in the day but I’m happy

Maybe more expensive than others but very convenient - they send the box, shipping labels & instructions - they kept me updated every step of the way while they converted my media. Would definitely use them again

I sent 20 family tapes to Legacy Box expecting professional digitization. Instead, I was disappointed when most came back with serious issues — heavy dropouts, noise, artifacts, and some files completely blank. They even placed stickers on the Sony MiniDV Digital tapes saying 'This is a type of analog media we're unable to digitize.'
I initially thought that the problem was with the old tapes degrading after sitting in boxes for decades.
To check, I pulled out my old Sony DCR-TRV340 Digital8 and Mini DV Digital Handycams that I originally used to record these tapes decades ago. To my surprise, both cameras still work perfectly, and the tapes play back in pristine condition on them. That says a lot about Sony quality. Confirming that the source material is fine — the problem was clearly on Legacy Box's end.
It seems that Legacy Box uses heavily worn playback decks with dirty or misaligned video heads and have minimal quality control. Such poor results indicate that they process tapes too quickly in bulk without proper cleaning or monitoring.
Frustrated, I looked for a better solution. My experience with Legacy Box makes me hesitate to try a competitive service; so, I'm faced with doing it myself.
Unfortunately, modern computers no longer support easy direct digital transfer from old camcorders like mine.
Fortunately, I found a simple solution for a fraction of what Legacy Box charged for poorly digitized tapes. ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 3.0. It lets me play the tapes on my own clean-working Sony Handycam and record directly to a USB flash drive or microSD card in MP4 format — no computer required during capture.
The process is simple and gives me full control. I'll now redo the poor transfers from Legacy Box and tackle the dozens of other family tapes we still have.
Bottom line: The tapes were never the problem. Legacy Box was. I won't be using their service again and can't recommend them.
If you're in the same situation, consider digitizing yourself with your original camcorder and a reliable standalone converter like the ClearClick. The results are far better.

[RESPONSE TO LEGACY BOX POST AND EMAIL] Thank you to Legacy Box for their response and inquiry. Here is my reply:
Thanks for asking. I am not going to take the time to trouble shoot for you. Bottom line is that of the 20 tapes you transferred, 9 are unwatchable or blank:
2 [Blank after a few minutes]
3
5
9
12
16
17 (this is the MiniDV with the sticker saying it couldn't be read)
18
19
Problems include:
- Partial recording then goes blank.
- So much snow as to be unwatchable.
- Jerky video that indicates misaligned heads.
- Loud buzzing.
Fortunately, I found my old Sony Handycams buried in the garage. They still work after decades. So, I am transferring each of the above recordings using a ClearClick Video 2 Digital converter. All of my transfers are coming out flawless. No blank sections, no artifacts, no snow, no buzzing. Just takes time, and I have boxes of tapes to transfer. For the right price, I'd like to outsource it. But, because of my experience with Legacy Box, I'll just do it myself.
Time suck aside, it's definitely worth the effort. I was saddened as I watched the Legacy Box transfers thinking the tapes had degraded, and I lost the memories. As I watch the videos I'm transferring myself, I'm relieved that the problem is on the Legacy Box end.

Marketing, and handling are good. Unfortunately 8mm film digitizing is not good. The video is jumping up and down so much it's unwatchable. They offered to re-digitize but I didn't trust that it would be any better, so I did it myself. Also, they sign you up for a cloud subscription when it's not selected in the ordering process and you can't cancel on the web. Fortunately I paid with PayPal and could cancel the subscription through them. I ended up paying for 2 months that I didn't want.
Response to Legacybox: When I project the film there is no vertical jumping. The problem is definitely with your equipment.

I had to call customer service a couple of times during the process. Both times, the person I spoke with was very friendly and helpful, and my issues were resolved in the long run. Would have rated 5 stars, but there was a shipping issue at the end of the entire process that made the experience a little stressful. It all worked out in the end.

One of the audio tapes was damaged, returned without case, and essentially no usable audio recording was made. This was the most important recording I had of my father and the only. No refund or remedy was ever offered.

I had a great experience with Legacybox. I sent them 2 miniDV tapes that were recorded in 2000 of a family reunion. I needed both tapes to be digitized. But one of the tapes was in bad shape and I didn’t think they would be able to get that one done. But they did! I am very satisfied!
