Terrible - stay clear of this one. Poor customer serice, customer support non existent, outsourced. Not worth the price
The worst. Can't even renew my credit card to pay the yearly fee weather it's online or by phone. It was a big mistake trusting them with my business number. Waisted too much time on this and I'm j... See more

I ordered Magic Jack subscription in December 10 along with the device for 2 years and I did not receive my device yet.I am trying to get hold of them on phone after waiting for half hour or an hour they hang up on me each time. What a waste of time and money. There should be law against people whom treat you in this manner with no service!
Beware of Magic Jack
I cancelled my Magic Jack service over 4 years ago. This past month, the company withdrew the subscription cost from my debit card even though the service had been void for over 4 years. When I started a dispute with my debit card provider, Magic Jack offered to cancel my account IF I paid them. Unethical and probably illegal.
Avoid!
Zero stars for non-existent customer service. Agents completely ignore the issue you are trying to resolve, and instead repeatedly send you the same stock e-mail reply that has nothing to do with solving the actual problem at hand. Magic Jack is a serious waste of time. Go elsewhere.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
They offer VOIP phone service. Unfortunately, when your service is down, they will ask you to call them, but, of course, you can't. They don't answer email.
A totally incompetent, bare-bones scam. I've had them 15 years and they treat you like garbage. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
UPDATE 1:
They refuse a refund and have billed me twice. Now I have to sue them. What an awful experience dealing with these fraudsters.
UPDATE 2:
Now have contacted Attorney General, FTC, BBB about this. These people don't want to offer customer service, THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. All they had to do was renew service, they couldn't even do that. Billed me twice and PHONE STILL DOESN'T WORK.
MagicJack got ripped off by the…
MagicJack got ripped off by the conventional mafia, the big share holders of the telecommunication world and now it is in the hands of the proffitors that cut out all possible communication with the buisiness. It fell into the wrong hands and now, we're paying the bandits. The USA buisinisses should not have the right to exploit the Canadian cityzens! They are our blood suckers! I've been with MagicJack almost 20 years and only in the beginning did I have a ball. I feel I have been exploited by their new Microsoft aquaintance of the name. It's a shame for all the poorer people to be enslaved to the new MagicJack buisiness; they don't even exist and we're throwing our money out the window to them.. What a rip off..!!!
Get Maria to help if you need fast immediate help.…
I called and like always there is a wait, had to go through 2 ladies and did not get my problem resolved, so I waited and called back the next day, got a young lady named Maria and she was terrific, explained everything to me, quickly, followed her advice and got everything resolved in a matter of minutes, wish I had Maria working for me. She should be the one training all Magic Jack customer service people. Delightful
I was a customer for years
I was a customer for years, I change internet providers and they cant connect the phone? And they will not give a refund.
bad
Works fine for me!
Just plugged in Magic Jack. So far my experience is great! Installation was super easy. I'm simply using MJ as a basic home phone service to make and receive local calls within the surrounding area codes. My cell phone signal is not so great in my apartment, but the Magic Jack signal is clear and strong. Will let you know if it changes. Hopefully, I won't have to change my review.
Scammers!
They are huge scammers and once they have your credit card it's almost impossible to stop them from charging you. They have procedures and policies in place to delay, delay, delay and make it super difficult to ever cancel your account. Thieves! Even logging onto their website (log into your account) and there is no place to cancel. They also auto renew by sending you can email that they are going to do it, but then it's impossible to reach them to stop the charge. Once they already charge you, they simply use that email (which is often sent to spam) as proof that you somehow approved the charge. When I did finally get someone on the phone, they said I had to wait 3 days for them to "review" my account to see if they would approve the refund or not. They said wait for an email. Then I asked them to cancel my account and delete my credit card from your records. They refused to delete my credit card, said it was impossible, and said since I requested a refund for a charge that auto renewed just 4 days ago, that if they canceled my account I would not get a refund. All they give is excuses and use circular arguments.
I took advantage of a special deal to…
I took advantage of a special deal to extend my Magic Jack service for 2 years just before switching Internet Service from Shaw to Telus. My service was not due to expire until a month or so later. Once my ISP was switched over, I found the MagicJack home VOIP device stopped working. Telus support couldn't help and MagicJack tech support would not even look at the problem before I faxed them a notarized statement that my wife had died as she was the one who set up the account initially. Getting that notarized statement would cost me as much as the renewal of my MJ service, so I asked for my money back just for that renewal, being prepared to lose the remaining time on my not yet expired service. All I got from them was "we don't give refunds". Basically, they stole $107 from me and refuse to refund it. I tried to get the charge reversed via the complaints department of my credit card provider (Banner Bank) but they sided with MagicJack after I was unable to fax them documentation which did not exist because everything was done online through MagicJack's website. Evidently this company is not above stealing from their customers, so I would recommend avoiding them. After I got the news from Banner Bank, I searched online for similar experiences and found that others had the same problem with Telus not allowing MagicJack hardware to connect to the internet through them. No one had a solution. I've since donated my collection of cordless land line phones and rely on my cell phone service from Telus as my only phone. So I guess this review reflects badly on Banner Bank credit card service and Telus internet as well.
These are charlatans
These are charlatans. Since I bought this useless piece of crap (in Canada it is almost 50 dollars) I had to purchase two ten-dollars credits to make long distance calls. Each time they added another 4 dollars as "service charge". So the price of calls is a lot higher (40%) than the advertised price.
More importantly, in total I have been able to make less than 3 minutes of useful calls.
There are multiple problems:
1) Half the time the number you dial sends you to a wrong country and wrong number.
2) Sound quality even in the wrong country is awful.
3) In the last 12 tries, every time I call the voice from the other side kept on repeating. For example the other side says "Hi how are you?" then you keep on hearing "Hi how are you?""Hi how are you?""Hi how are you?""Hi how are you?" This repeats till you have to hang up and many minutes are deducted from your purchased credit.
4) They have 0 tech support and customer service. Try calling them. It gets disconnected or recorded message tells you to send them an email or worse, it says that "they are too busy, call later" and hangs up on you.
It is a complete waste of money. DO NOT BUY IT. They are dishonest, have absolutely no support or customer service. You might as well burn your money and be less frustrated.
Their business model is stealing little money from a lot of people everyday. They think nobody can afford to take them to court over a few dollars. That is how they have stayed in business so long.
UPDATE:
I send them an email explaining the problem with repeating voices in very clear details. Two days later I got a generic answer back asking me to explain the problem! This is a dishonest tactic to divert the responsibility and action by asking the victim for the next step, instead of taking any action or solving the problem, That email had nothing to do with my problem and was probably written by some crook just to bounce back a complaint. It will be emailed to anyone who had a problem, just to say they are doing something while not providing a solution.
I could not possibly be the only one with this experience, they must have heard this complaint hundreds or thousands of times before.
I WILL NEVER PAY THESE CHARLATANS A PENNY ANY MORE OR RENEW, AND REGRET WASTING 70 DOLLARS ON A USELESS JUNK.
I am sorry I have to give them 1 star. There is no option for ZERO star.
My Magic Jack
My Magic Jack, Which I bought from ebay, which printed on the package for XP, Vista & 7, I found the app on mjcheck.low.li for windows 10 which I downloaded, I haven't any big issues with MJ, I paid month before my renewal date/month, and had to contact MJ to have MJ to show on my account paid, which MJ did, now my next payment is next year, I also had to update my payment method only. I highly recommend MJ, if you know how to use MJ, and sometimes the audio acts up, so I unplug the device and re-plug the device back in and that made it sound work like it should. And the audio driver for MJ can also be the issue when MJ app says no audio found.
My experience with magicjack was…
My experience with magicjack was unfortunately now good at all. I had to convert my Canadian number to an American and, which was not a problem. But getting the calls transferred became an issue and NO ONE from their customer device tech team could not resolve the issue. I had many phone calls with them regarding my issue, many escalation to the manager and NO ONE ever called me back to get my issue resolved. And of course I could not get a refund even though I didn’t not use the service at all (since I was not able to). No empathy from anyone on their team and just terrible customer service overall. I would not recommend them to anyone.
Keep taking money after canceling
Service wasn't terrible. However, we canceled over 2 years ago and they keep taking money from us yearly. We have tried everything. All we can do is dispute with our financial institution. Tomorrow will be the second time I have to file a dispute. Ridiculous!
was thinking about signing up but won't after talking to them
I was thinking about signing up with Magic Jack so called to ask some questions. The responses came very slowly, were quite unclear, with lots of mistakes made (saying one thing followed by 'oh, sorry, I mean...'), and the rep's speech was slurred. Honestly, it sounded like he was stoned. On the plus side, he was polite and friendly. But when clear answers to straightforward questions are so elusive, then it's just not for me.
Do yourself a favor and run
Do yourself a favor and run! Years ago I had a magic jack and it was great. My parents recently moved out of state to live with my sister after my Dad had a stroke. I wanted to be able to talk to them and have them call me (as my sister has no phone in the house) so I immediately thought Magic Jack. What a big mistake. I ordered the device and paid for the one year subscription. The device was missing upon delivery. Somehow in the shipping process, the box got torn open and the device and everything else with it went missing. The post office, instead of returning the empty box to Magic jack, proceeded to deliver the empty box in a plastic bag offering an apology. When I called Magic jack they dutifully read me a section in their contract that says the buyer is responsible, not Magic Jack if the unit is not delivered or damaged during delivery. Isn’t that wonderful! We tried to find out if the package was insured, but in the multiple phone calls we made, no one would answer our question. I guess after reading all the reviews, this may have been a blessing in disguise. According to those that did receive their device, service was poor and Magic jack put them on auto payment and these folks are having one heck of a time getting it cancelled.
A problem they wont fix but they will charge for
1 Month ago I renewed my service, magic jack took my money and still disabled my phone and has been spamming me for 7 weeks to renew my service. I paid in FULL again for the 2nd time two weeks ago and they still have my phone disabled and they are still spamming me about my need to renew. So now I've Paid 2x to renew, and the phone is still disabled by magic jack, spent 35 minutes on my cellphone calling them (disabled house phone doesnt even allow me to call them) and they will escalate the POSSIBILITY of refunding my over payment as they don't issue refunds?!?!?!
Oh yeah, they also insist on charging me an extra $10dollars to keep my number. This fee isnt listed on the renewal web page that we are forced to use in order to renew the service. I paid to renew twice, MAgicJack disabled the phone and in order to fix their error, I need to phone them.
Company is horrible to get a hold of, has awful or non-existent service and charges annual fees that they make up as they go.
They messed up my phone by connecting…
They messed up my phone by connecting my device wrong. Now I can't get the phone number back
Even a death certificate won't get you any help
I used to love having a magic jack. As long as you have no problems the service works fine. I bought a second one for an elderly couple who needed a land line. Just as it arrived the husband was setting it up but then he died. I could not access the account because I didn't have his passcode. THEY ASKED ME FOR HIS DEATH CERTIFICATE WHICH I VERY awkwardly PROVIDED (WHY DID I DO THAT???). Then the company refused to answer any emails. After I provided the death certificate. I'm not sure who I am morte upset with the company or myself. Buyer BEWARE
Would give zero but will not go that…
Would give zero but will not go that low. Told to pay for another year and they would refund me the year they over charged me for. Next day after already paying I get an email refusing refund. Now stuck with 2 years of service that has gone so far down hill. Calls will not forward. Never again.
