Considering 131 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about extremely long telephone wait times, unhelpful support agents, and ongoing difficulties reaching anyone capable of resolving their problems. Many individuals also reported severe processing delays, lost paperwork, and unexpected denials when attempting to receive payouts for their submitted insurance claims. Some reviewers were happy with specific staff members who provided polite, patient, and truly effective assistance during particularly stressful situations. A few consumers additionally noted that certain helpful representatives successfully resolved their long-standing payment complications after multiple formal escalation requests.

Extremely frustrating experience

Extremely frustrating experience with Manulife. Their website is not user-friendly, especially when trying to find the right forms to submit a claim. The dental claim form I have is geared toward general dental work, such as tooth repairs and other dental procedures, and doesn't seem appropriate for orthodontic retainers. I tried calling to ask one simple question about how to submit this type of claim, but reaching a real person is practically impossible. The automated phone system sends you around in circles with no clear way to speak to a representative. Manulife seriously needs to improve its website and customer service. Getting a simple answer shouldn't be this difficult! I basically gave up and ended the call.

Worst Insurance Out there

Even if you have full coverage for medical devices that are prescribed, Manulife refuses to direct bill. So if you cannot afford a 5k device, you are screwed. Every other insurance company will direct bill, but not these people. Horrible customer service. Makes sense why its a 1.2/5 rating.

According to my experience

According to my experience, private investigators were sent to follow me in white vans. Individuals then entered my home through what was presented as a “home upgrade” program. While inside, they conducted what I believe were misleading or unauthorized tests and drilled holes in my walls, after which they never returned. I believe these activities were intended to conduct further surveillance and, in my view, to “stack the deck against me.”

The individuals I associate with these events are Hillary Steele, Natalie Gamarnik, and Pamela Beech. My file was subsequently reviewed through IME assessments involving Dr. Delyth Roberts of Nova Scotia and Dr. Dave Clark Young of British Columbia. I believe these reviews were used in a way that made it more difficult for me to pursue a complaint with the CPSO. I live in Ontario.

I am deeply concerned about what I believe was a deliberate and coordinated effort by the insurance company to investigate and discredit me rather than fairly assess my Long-Term Disability claim. I consider the circumstances extremely serious and believe they warrant a thorough, independent investigation.

Extremely Disappointing Experience with…

Extremely Disappointing Experience with Manulife Bank — Serious Security Concerns

We have been with Manulife Bank for less than a year, and it has already turned into a nightmare. This is our primary joint account, which we use to pay our bills.

One of us received an email notification stating that a new phone number had been added to our account. Neither of us had authorized this change!

We immediately called the bank and were told that someone had correctly answered all the security questions and added the phone number. As a result, our account was blocked, leaving us unable to pay our bills or access our money.

When we called Manulife again, we were told that only a "minor change" had been made to our account — JUST A PHONE NUMBER!

Are you serious?! In today's world, phone numbers are used for two-factor authentication and can provide access to sensitive financial information. How can a bank consider an unauthorized phone number change a minor issue?

Instead of protecting our account and resolving the situation promptly, Manulife has left us locked out of our own money and unable to meet our financial obligations.

We have completely lost confidence in this bank's security and customer service.

We are planning to close our account and never deal with Manulife Bank again.

An absolutely unacceptable experience.

On LTD with these people

On LTD with these people. Second time battle with these people. They tell me I have to apply for CDPP. Basically Corporate Welfare for them. What they don't say is what ever CDPP pays you Manulife deducts out of what they pay you. Why do Tax payers need to fund a billion dollar profit company? I paid these people 30 years and my company paid these people for 30 years. This is private insurance not tax payer insurance. I had 3 strokes so I am off work. But the way they treat it is like this. Example. So I crash my car the insurance company says thanks for your money take it up with the Tax payer? Then they tell me if I don't apply they will assume and deduct the amount they think I should get. In my contract doesn't say anywhere that it's compulsory to apply for CDPP. They send me the CDPP form with another form they think I am going to sign allowing them to change the original contract. Go F yourself. Not happening. They deduct a dime i will see you in court. Likely costing alot more then they planned on saving. I say a 2 million dollar or more lawsuit.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service - I have been dealing with a very basic issue for 6 long months. I started this process when my mother was alive, she passed away and I am still dealing with the issue. They will give you forms to sign and tell you to wait, then by magic they tell you oops! more forms to sign and you have to wait even longer instead of giving you all the forms needed up front. Terrible people work there.

Never buy Manu life insurance

Meand my wife (Senior Citizens) bought travel insurance when we were going to India and we got sick and got admitted in the hospital in India and paid huge amount. I made sure that I have all the receipts and when we came back and when we sent the claim we never received not even a single cent and it has been almost 2 years now. We got the insurance from Costco and paid 1600 dollars. I will never refer to any one for Manu life with such bad experience and their customer support is pathetic. Everytime when we call they will say that they wil call back and will never return the call

5 time calls in 3 months for claims payment

Over the past 3 months, I’ve called Manulife 5 times to follow up on my claims that I had sent through my LifeStyle Account and every time a representative opens a case number but no payment! Manulife should pay me at least $500 which is long due now. I pay for my coverage so I can use it in time but with Manulife on time payment doesn’t mean anything!

Do not ever get a Mortgage from Manulife

This the communication I responded to after I desperately reach out in LinkedIn.

"Wow, I actually got a response from Manulife!

If somehow Manulife thinks that I have not exhausted the Complaints Department angle, you are mistaken.

At this point IT IS THE COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT that has promised to call me back multiple times. I need a to escalate to someone who who is above the complaints department. Who the heck is responsible for the either the discharge team or the complaints department?

I have now spent 2 months of additional interest that for something that should have been dealt with in days.

I will give you a tidbit of how this started. I did all of the required things to get the discharge and I requested a discharge date in 7 days as that should have been time enough to receive the notice and send a cheque. Guess when I received the notice - about 18 days later. Basically making it useless as, with it being expired, there would be additional interest that would not be covered with the late date. FYI I was not advised that 7 days would not be adequate.

I have no idea how it could possibly take over 2 weeks to print and mail a letter but, somehow Manulife managed to pull it off (ever here about Priority mail service or is it the fact I spent many tens of thousands in interest to Manulife to not warrant a $10 cost for a good customer).

This is where the disaster started as I then requested an emailed copy of which I was promised would happing in a few days - well that was about 6 weeks ago. When I called yet again, I then got a case number. From there it has been one promise for a returned phone call after another.

I called yet again today (as I was promised yet another phone call on Monday) and I was so resigned to my fate that I just wanted to start the process over with a new discharge letter and guess what, I CANNOT GET ANOTHER ONE GOING BECAUSE IT IS WITH THE COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT and it has to go through them now.

Here is another tidbit as I am on a roll. I left a message with the mortgage team at 855-682-5979. Not sure if you have ever tried this number but the message states that someone will call back in up to 5 BUSINESS DAYS. Firstly, what kind of customer service has a 5 day call back? But that's not even the funny part, it has been 5-6 weeks that I left this message and nobody has yet to call me back. LOL

I am honestly convinced that it is Manulife's policy to string along discharges to maximize the length of a mortgage to the end of existence.

This from a company that made over 2 billion in the last quarter? Maybe hire a few more people and get rid of some department heads.

Dodged a bullet

My complaint is to do with the lack of customer service from Manulife bank. I was able to open the account online but was unable to upload documents to link the account to my external bank. All attempts to get online help, as well as sending a written request by mail, have failed, so I have decided not to use this bank. After checking the reviews on this platform, it seems like I have dodged a bullet

Unsatisfactory Experience

Unsatisfactory Experience

My experience with Manulife was disappointing at best. I found the level of communication, professionalism, and overall competence to be below my expectations and leading industry standards. There were also concerns regarding transparency and the accuracy of the information provided, (with a basic reques) which negatively impacted my trust in Manulife.

When issues arose, they were not addressed in a satisfactory or professional manner, and there appeared to be a lack of accountability for mistakes. Overall, the experience suggested that the company did not consistently demonstrate the level of integrity, competence, or customer service expected from a reputable organization.

Based on my experience, I will be removing remaining substantial assets and I would not be confident in
recommending this company to others.

Won't reimburse for paid coverage

We have coverage for at home foot care WITHOUT a doctor's referral in our group plan. I submitted 6 claims usually 6 - 7 weeks apart. Always had to call to see what was taking so long for reimbursement. If I listed under Podiatry, it should have been Chiropodist, if I listed Chiropodist, it should have been Podiatry. Submitted a claim on June 24 2026. Processed, not covered under our plan. Why not? Because someone at Manulife decided to change Podiatry and Chiropodist to private duty nurse. We have coverage for private duty nurse, BUT, not for foot care provided by private duty nurse. Long story short, Manulife agreed that it was an error, but, still had to pull past claims to make sure I didn't get reimbursed for something not covered. All foot care claims was from the same person, registration number the same, license number the same, but I ended up owing Manulife for incorrect claims. The prior claims where submitted fraudulently. Not the wording the agent used, but that's what was meant. Finally got things straightened out, I owe nothing. Submitted a claim two days ago, yup, not covered. Manulife is looking like a VERY corrupt company to me. I just wish our employer would sign with another company. Apparently Manulife has the best premium price, I'd imagine so, they take your money then refuse to reimburse the plan members. Again, sounds like a very shady company.

The worse of the worst

If I could leave a minus star review I would. This has to be the worst company to deal with. Have to fight for our money at every stage. These are legitimate claims that they have reimbursed in the past multiple times yet still manage to mess things up. Who ever your adjusters are they need a lot more training. And what's with the BS of not being able to get past the first operator when trying to deal with this?

Nightmare close my bank account over long weekend.

have a group retirement and personal retirement rrsp accounts.
Opened a bank account and TFSA. Was sent a bank card and PIN. Friday of a long weekend I transfered $1250 to my account. Went accept etransfer, was told my etransfer was disabled and could not be fixed until after the weekend. When I asked why it was disabled the agent had no answer, So I am stuxk for the weekend with that money.
Sunday night I recieve a email stating that Manulife is not going forward with my application for a bank account? Application? I already had the account. They sent me the bank card and pin. I should point out that setting up the account and also transfering funds from my rrsp accounts has been nothing but a complete nightmare, Ive spent hours on phone calls trying to get things sorted. Ive been waiting 14 days for for withdrawal from my rrsp account into another account,
I am waiting to find the reason for my account being closed. Never have I had so many issues with a bank. they have left me 7 extra business days longer then promised for a with drawal, My $1250 etransfer is floating somewhere in limbo. Very impersonal instution. I must say the agents Ive dealt with on the phone have been as helpful as possin=ble and polite, but they can only do so much. Theres no faces to names. The websites dont work, a terrible experience. I feel like a chump recieving that email over a weekend, no phone call, no reasons.
