A perfect balance between a holiday and work experiance

The 2 weeks were well run, adapted well to our interests and were unforgettable. The student mentors teaching us made concepts easier to understand than some doctors since they were in our position not long ago, so knew our experience levels like the back of their hands.
The good organisation made the experience surprisingly relaxing considering we were 4.5 thousand miles away from home.
I recommend this to anyone who is considering medicine.

Excellent experience!

I really enjoyed the two weeks I spent in India with medical projects; the experience was hugely useful for me and my medical application for university. Medical projects is unlike other similar companies because it has smaller groups of participants meaning that the experience is much more personal-this allowed time for one to one interview practice and teaching with current medical students. It also meant that by the end of the trip everyone was really close and some great friendships were made. As well as providing excellent hospital experience which would not be possible in the UK, the trip also included multiple occasions to experience the culture of the local area which was also really enjoyable. Overall, I am really happy that I decided to take part in medical projects and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in studying medicine!

One of the best experiences of my life!

I was understandably nervous before this trip, having never done anything to this extent before. But everyone I went with was amazing and as soon as we landed despite the nerves and tiredness we were made to feel welcome, safe and we were already having fun! The travel was tiring but as soon as we got to the hospital and got stuck in I knew it was an out of this world experience. I witnessed several births and C Sections, different surgeries and communicated with patients and doctors despite language barriers. Current medical students on the trip were also invaluable to our enjoyment within the hospital and I didn't feel nervous about asking questions or admitting if I felt uncomfortable. The doctors love explaining about their job and are more than helpful. All coordinators are loads of fun and really lovely people who massively boosted my confidence when reapplying to Midwifery this year. I would loved to have stayed longer and really want to go again, India is a fantastic country and Walawalkar Hospital is modern and impressive. It's an eye opening trip with huge benefits. Just need to throw yourself into it, be confident and enjoy it because the support and environment are there. Thank you Medical Projects for a trip I won't ever forget!!!

Experience of a lifetime!

I had an unforgettable experience with Medical Projects during my time in India. Being able to do Medical Work experience for 2 weeks in B.K.L Walawalkar Hospital was a life changing experience and I feel honored to be apart of a group of fantastic staff and students. The whole experience exceeded my expectations and I have had the time of my life! I am grateful for all that was offered and I want to say congratulations to the whole team for making it a huge success and making this opportunity possible! I know this has definitely boosted my motivation to do Medicine at University and after these past 2 weeks, I didn't want to leave. I know this won't be my last visit to India. Thank you!

A hugely worthwile opportunity to experience both medicine and India

I would recommend that anyone with the chance to take part in a Medical Projects trip does so - it has been an invaluable experience in general, not just for my University application.
The team running the project were keen to ensure our hospital placements were exciting and informative, but also used our leisure time to develop other important aspects of the university application process such as fundamental clinical skills and interview practice.
When not working in the hospital there were a variety of opportunities to gain an authentic cultural experience of India - we took several trips out to the local community, utilized the hospital sporting facilities and were given a tour of the medical college. The weekend trip was an extension of this, allowing us to see some of the local sights and to relax in a beautiful local resort whilst taking a break from the hospital setting.
All hospital staff were friendly and welcoming, the accommodation was extremely comfortable and convenient with three meals as well as cleaners visiting daily. Each doctor we spoke to had exceptional English and made a huge effort to explain everything to us. They had all been made aware of our presence and thus were keen to explain what they were doing as well as ask us questions about medicine and the UK.
Overall, the experience is one that I can't recommend highly enough. I believe I have become a much stronger medical candidate because of it, but even if I am unsuccessful in becoming a doctor I will always be glad that I went: it was definitely worth it.

Extremely helpful

The experience itself of being in a rural hospital setting yet being able to observe many unique cases and surgeries is easily reason enough to choose this project. The Project staff also gave crucial interview practice that helped highlight important strengths and weaknesses in the way I handle interviews. The medical student staff also provided valuable insight into what it is like to be a med student in the UK. The accommodation, sports facilities, etc.. made the trip just that bit more exciting and fun. The staff were also very friendly and broke the ice very quickly, so we felt more comfortable there. My only complaint is that the food provided was quite spicy and there were no alternatives but that's just a small problem. Definitely am not going to forget this experience!
