It was relatively straightforward for someone who did not know the tax system. A little long winded in places but overall quite good. More explanations would be helpful as you progress through the items.

Great online tool that's easy to use, excellent suport/guidance and very clear explanations for tricky subjects. I'm so relieved to have found MyExpatTaxes - they've taken all the stress out of filing my returns!

My Expat Taxes has been doing my expat daughter's taxes for several years now and we've never had a problem. All returns have been accepted by the IRS without problems.

on two occasions, i had to ask for help. In both occasions, the response was quick, friendly, and clear - the issues were solved and they both turned out to be tax law issues, not system problems.

the beauty of the My Expat Taxes system is its simplicity. Just follow the process and enter the requested data and, voila, you have a tax return. Since it imports data from last year, in my daughter's case, i only have to enter three bits of information each year. Of course, the system walks me through the data from last year to confirm nothing has changed.

Makes the excruciating experience of self filing taxes way less painful

This is my first year using MyExpatTaxes and I should have started using them 10 years ago! This has been a breath of fresh air for getting my US tax filings done!

It was so easy to use and fill out! Really thank you for your making a program that helps expats to be able to do their taxes without worry while living abroad.

The online system made things pretty straightforward and factored in the unique aspects effecting expats. When something wasn't clear I was able to get advice that was easy to follow. All in all it is a great value to tackle complicated expat taxes.

I don’t have good experience with tax accountants - responsiveness, clarity, timeliness, data collection, always a nightmare.

MyExpatTaxes is the opposite of all that - super easy software, fast response times, knowledgeable and competent, and they take the time to answer all questions in detail. During crunch times they are honest about expected responses (which I much prefer to “next week” and then I don’t hear for two months).

In New Zealand, it's common for US expats to use limited companies to either work for themselves or to work remotely for overseas tech companies. I've done this for over a decade, as far as I can tell always meeting my US and NZ tax obligations through a different tax preparation service. But, the annual filing is a bit of a pain, so I decided to try MyExpatTaxes to see if it's better - and have switched back this year after a very frustrating experience.

MyExpatTaxes' forms for submitting information weren't set up well for my situation, and then it seemed like written communications weren't read so there was a lot of time-wasting back-and-forth just to get the basic information across.

Sensitive information was sent over unencrypted email, and the compensation offered was essentially a discount on upsells that didn't apply anyway. As a techie, this left me feeling somewhat exposed and like MyExpatTaxes doesn't have a good handle on what should be a core competency of an online tax service.

MyExpatTaxes raised issues with my previous CPA's preparation, but without offering solutions or being able to clarify what exactly the issues were - I wouldn't claim to be a US tax expert, but it left me feeling like the other CPA wasn't the one in error!

Maybe the service is OK for people who fit the mold that MyExpatTaxes is set up for, but I suspect that even those people would be better off submitting directly to IRS.
