Continued great support

The program is very supportive, and has a team that is there to help you learn and prepare for both fundraising and working with investors.

Easy To See Why They Are #1 For Online Accelerators

I had heard of accelerators and finally decided to dive in. While I've founded another company in the past, my current venture (finish'd Inc.) is the first time where I've built a product/app that that I want to scale out. It's been a journey, and Newchip couldn't have come at a better time. Their courses have been beneficial (especially for someone who has been out of the formal education sector for almost 10 years now). I wouldn't have been able to get a data room set up properly, and button up certain aspects of my company. There's still so much of the program that I haven't experienced yet, so I'm excited. I highly recommend the program to all founders looking to scale and accelerate their fundraising activities.

Pre-seed acceleration program

We've entered the January cohort and, so far, the experience has been great. Being a european startup, we were hesitant as it involves paying a fee to participate. But truth is, the quality of the curriculum is great and the level of support / speed of the whole team in helping you move forward is superb.

I can't comment on the introduction to investors part as we haven't progressed that far yet.

Keep it up, Newchip!

New Chip is the best Start-up Accelerator

New Chip has excellent programs for onboarding, training, and fundraising process.

The training course is great and you can learn all about startup basics, fundraising to daily operations/legal/business strategies.

Besides that, they also help you find mentors to accelerate your growth with bi-weekly or monthly sync-up. Mentors are all experts in related fields and they are awesome.

The fundraising process is also the best in my opinion.

To all, this is the best start-up accelerator.

The Value of Mentors in the NewChip Program

The most valuable part of New Chip is my mentors. I have two mentors and I have meetings with each every week. They are so smart and helpful in areas that make our company so much stronger. Abhinav my financial mentor is VERY helpful as this is a particularly green area for me and he is so proactive in guiding me and supplying helpful materials. He is also very enthusiastic about what we are doing which keeps me in the game. My second mentor, Cynthia Ashworth is also an exceptional member of our "team" taking the sales direction and materials in a much more professional direction than I can. She too is very supportive of the company, the team and what we offer. I am so appreciative of the work and advice these mentors have contributed and the process of working with them. I feel like they have become friends as well as advocates.

Newchip Mentor Program provides actionable learnings for any startup

The mentor program at Newchip is invaluable. Not only is there a diversity of talent that can help with very detailed, or very broad, needs and education, but they are accessible. Even with an agenda, the somewhat free flow of information leads to very constructive discussions and implementable ideas. Further, if a mentor is not quite fitting the target profile to help a particular startup, Newchip is quick to hear this and responds with a different recommended mentor. This was very useful in my case.

Incubator/ accelerator? I don't think so

The slogan "equity-free" is only the half of the truth. First in the interview you get the information that you have to pay a fee. In my opinion nobody will invest in your project but you should invest in their project... The first contact was a potential investor. I think when I would sign the contract a commission is paid. I aborted before I have to pay anything. I understand something different of an incubator or accelerator.

Hello,

Though the application process is free, the Accelerator itself is simply fee-based rather than an equity stake in the companies that we work with. This is due in part to the goal of getting startups in the Accelerator funding from outside entities, which requires as much equity retention as possible in order to be in the best position to raise from our Venture partners.

Additionally, for 4 years Newchip has worked to create a diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem through education and resources. We have helped hundreds of companies get funded (see our youtube) and invested in 9 of our very own cohort companies in 2022 (see our blog page). We understand that an online accelerator like ours is not for everyone, however, we pride ourselves in the successes of the companies that took a chance and came out the other side better. Although we do not agree with your positioning, we understand we can't be everything for everyone. We wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,
The Newchip Team

Disingenuous: Do not Trust

Disingenuous. Do not trust them. Misrepresented what the meeting was in the first place (they want you to pay for an accelerator program). Then, tried to mislead me about the deposit being fully refundable if I chose to stop. If you read the agreement, it is refundable, but only under very specific circumstances. I did not participate because we don't want to be in an accelerator, but thought this should be known for anyone who might.

Also had sketchy email communications. They reached out to me in the first place. Emailed on Friday, then again on Sunday for a follow up. Emailed a very old email address of mine, which means they got it from some list. I was suspicious from the beginning, but figured I'd take the meeting just to see. They are what they seem like.

Hey Will,

Our apologies for the poor experience through our admissions process. Did you receive the email from our success team?

You are correct, deposits are refundable under certain circumstances. We offer this as protection for both the incoming founders and the accelerator. We appreciate you sharing our refund policy publicly.

Not wanting to join an accelerator at this time is an understandable reason to not go through with the program.

Regarding communication, some of our contact info does require updating. Apologies for the old email correspondence.

Very knowledgeable people

Very knowledgeable people and very accessible and friendly.

My startup is a out of curve, since it is hard tech, heavy equipment solutions for the mining sector.
This requires a special kind of mentor and network that I was told, Newchip has!

Newchip is NOT legit

This was quite elaborate too! I was initially contacted via LinkedIn about 6 months ago by one of their advisors. They told me they came across my business and thought it would be a good fit for their next accelerator program. Turns out after sharing some general info they felt I wouldn’t quality yet, so they followed with me 6 months later. Turns out, now I did.

After 2 interviews I had a chance to pitch my business to a senior advisor. He loved the pitch and said he would take it back to the board to review it. On that call he already scheduled the follow up call with me - this was my first red flag.

On that call, which was two days later, he told me I was accepted into the program. We needed to move quickly though because the next cohort was set to begin in two business days. So there, he wanted me to lock in my spot with a $6000 payment. No acceptance letter, no separate email to first agree to and sign terms and conditions. This was another red flag.

But then after the call I emailed him to ask if they could provide names of other businesses they’d recently funded and how much they they got and how the businesses were doing since receiving the investment. Of the two, one of the businesses had already gone under (as of last year). The other hadn’t actually been funded yet - which I knew to be true because I contacted the founder on LinkedIn who told me direct. I wrote them again to share what I learned and gave them a chance to reply in their own words. Haven’t heard back from them since...

Hi Nekeia,
We just checked our systems and it appears that you reached out right before the holiday MLK weekend and our team responded once we opened back our offices.

In our system I can see that our Director did respond and your response was "I don't wish to have a phone call. Thank you anyhow for reaching out".

I reviewed the two companies that you called. And sadly startups do fail, in fact 99% fail within 5 years of their launch.

However, one did raise capital successfully...and eventually failed in the current climate and the other had commits that fell through in their round.

We're happy to continue the conversation if you change your mind, otherwise we wish you the best in your startup journey!

Total scam.

Total scam.

They tell you entering the accelerator will not cost money and in the second meeting they magically tell you it will cost between 6-8 k. When you tell them that was not what you talk they stop answering your emails.
Total scam

Hi Ramon,
We do not tell anyone that we're free. Newchip is a public benefit corporation with the goal of making world-class accelerator experiences accessible and affordable to upcoming unicorns outside of Silicon Valley.

Our partner and investor sponsor model allows us to run programs at cost on a membership resource fee + a $250,000 warrant option to invest in your startup.

We've reviewed our conversation history in our system with all 22 Ramon's and we responded to all emails to all Ramon's over the last year.

Self-guided online course not suitable for international startups

We joined the Seed/Series A Accelerator in Summer of 2022 but weren't satisfied with the program. While it might work for American companies, we would not recommend it for international companies. The first thing you would need to do is move your company to a Delaware C-Corp to even be considered by their investors.

Overall it is a highly automated program and the curriculum was completely self-guided so you need to watch 100+ hours of videos to even qualify for the next steps. Considering it is a program with over 1200 participants, you won't get the same personal support as during the sales process. There are no personal check-ins and if you have any doubts you need to open a support ticket. They do get back fast but no one really cared for the participating startups' success. For a program fee of over 8000 USD we would definitely expect more support and not just an online course.

They do have great speakers and sessions but we were very disappointed in the mentor meetings. While there is a huge pool of mentors, there was only 1 organized mentor meeting and it was more like a one-time session, instead of a sustainable mentorship program.

Due to the huge amount of requirements, we never made it to the investor's stage and didn't get a single connection out of the program so a couple of learnings but not worth the time and money.

Helpful folks who like to solve for entrepreneurs

Helpful folks who like to solve for entrepreneurs. I always found to find ways to support our needs and be flexible to accommodate the challenges an entrepreneur faces while simultaneously doing their program and running the company. Also, the program support from pitch deck prep to business advisory sessions are quite helpful.

The best part about our relationship…

The best part about our relationship with New Chip is working with Joey W. And, of course we have deep appreciation for the high quality companies and founders he introduced us to. It's great that New Chip provides a path for companies after "graduating" New Chip.
