If you want the worst “assistant” you could ever imagine, you’ve found him
If you’re curious to see how a rental company can turn a simple trip into a joke, On Tour Campervans (Edinburgh) is the gold standard — in the worst possible way.
I paid £20/day for their so-called “Diamond Insurance – covers all situations (as long as you drive within the law)”. Guess what? One flat tyre in Skye (invoice £120), and suddenly “covers all situations” means covers nothing at all.
Highlights of this circus:
• The tyre was already worn out when I picked up the van (I have photos, and even the mechanic confirmed it).
• When I first met the guy running this, I was helping another couple who struggled with English. Instead of showing basic respect, he told me to “get out with my van, this is not a party”. I actually have his email apology afterwards as proof.
• I fought by email again and again to obtain a copy of the insurance contract I paid for. The truth is: this contract simply does not exist. It’s pure scam.
• When I asked about the insurance, he refused to pay, and pushed me back to IndieCampers to deal with it.
So let’s be clear: you pay premium for “maximum coverage”, you get zero coverage, and the only “service” you get is being spoken to like dirt. Honestly, this man is the perfect example of someone who should never work with other human beings.
If you want the worst “assistant” you could ever imagine, you’ve found him. A flat tyre turned into a scam, a fight, and a ruined holiday vibe.
There are plenty of companies in Scotland who understand both customer service and honesty. This one clearly doesn’t.
