Attention
Be careful, be careful. They are scammers. Definitely do not rent a vehicle there. When signing the contract at midnight, after a long flight from Europe, they told us that the payment was a refundable deposit. After returning the car, they denied everything and said that we had arranged additional services on the spot. They did not return the money. Be careful and do not get scammed like we did.
Routes Car Rental engaged in blatant deceptive practices…
Routes Car Rental engaged in blatant deceptive practices. I was explicitly told there would be no other fees beyond the base rental. Days later, I discovered two unauthorized charges: $246.42 and $338.21 for an undisclosed "VIP service" that was never mentioned.
When I disputed this, their automated system claimed nothing could be done. This is unethical upselling and false advertising. Avoid this company—they prey on customers with hidden fees and zero accountability.
Steer clear. 1 star only because 0 isn't an option.
Routes car rental..stay away
So I just flew into Denver April 7th, 2026. Made my reservation for the car rental. Got my notification by email. Followed the instructions on where to meet the van for pickup. They even have a nice app that shows you where the van is. And this is where the problem starts. I watch the van come by once go to the East terminal. I'm over at the West terminal which is where they told me to go wait and where I requested a pickup. And it never came by. It went through the East terminal and went back to the routes car rental location. I booked it again and guess what the same thing happened. Except this time I took screenshots of everything that happened along the way of where the van went. Had to actually rent a Lyft rental in order to get a ride to the car rental place. How stupid is that. When I finally got to the rental place and told the person who was booking my car. What happened they go, Oh that's too bad. Not an apology. No explanation. I said I want to talk to the manager. Supposedly when they went to talk to the Manager, he said the manager is not coming out and said you have to go to the East terminal he said. Then why didn't their emails or their voicemail say anything? Tell me that I need to go to East terminal versus have me stand there for two mother freaking hours. I was beyond pissed. I still am. I don't write reviews. I really don't but this one frustrated me to no end. I want to make sure everybody understands just how poorly they treat the customer. Not an apology. No manager came over to talk to me. They wouldn't reimburse me for my Lyft fees that it cost me to get there. They wouldn't even discount it off the car. That would have been the easiest thing just to make the customer happy. But no. That's just too bad. Next time go to the East terminal. I will never rent from these guys again. And I would highly advise all of my friends and Business associates to not to do that either. Find any other car rental company that actually treats you like a customer and understands basic human decency where oh we could have at least said we're sorry. And to make it up for you. They don't care. So funny rent from these guys. They just want your money and then have you go away. Well guess what now I'm going away and I want to make sure all my friends know as well. You were warned.
We had an extremely frustrating…
We had an extremely frustrating experience. After arriving at the airport, we waited a long time just to be picked up. By the time we finally got to the counter—after standing in line—they told us we were “late” and had cancelled our reservation.
We were not the only ones. At least three other customers in line were told the exact same thing.
No refunds were offered, no solutions were provided, and there was zero accountability from the company.
This feels like a deliberate tactic rather than an isolated issue. Based on our experience, I strongly advise others to avoid this company. Expedia should seriously reconsider listing them, and this business deserves closer scrutiny from regulators.
Absolutely unacceptable. Stay away.
Priceline and Expedia should be ashamed…
Priceline and Expedia should be ashamed of themselves for putting their name/associating themselves with this brand. It’s a bait and switch. They give you a great deal when you book then you get to the rental booth- yes booth with a person on a screen to tell you it’s another $400 because your insurance doesn’t have the correct deductible. It’s a scam and it’s not right.
If there is a zero
If there is a zero, I would give them zero.
It is literally a scam. They get you in and you are thrown with so many hidden fees that are actually ridiculous. I was going to pay much more than any other company.
Not to mention how rude the employees are. You get in the office and not body wants to help you or even wants to look at you.
It is a complete waste of time and effort
King was great!!!
When we got in line, there were 2 agents at the counter - apparently both needed a break. It was 10:45 pm. One ignored all customers and walked out. There were 4 customers to be helped. Luckily, King was super helpful and willing to work even without a break all day. He was friendly and calm even after being left on his own. If I could just give King a review, it would be a perfect 5, but your other employee was rude and lazy so it wasn't the best experience.
They charged me 100% even though they would not rent to me!
They took my money, knowing my address from my credit card is in Colorado, and then on the day to rent the car refused to rent me the car, because I live in CO! Nowhere did they say they would not rent it to a Coloradoan! This is criminal!
Best prices and cordial counter staffat DIA!
I've rented with Routes 6 times since December 2025 through several online car rental agencies as Routes had the best price at Denver Intl Airport. Routes counter staff at DIA are cordial, and pushed their insurance and upgrade upsells gently. Also, picking up and returning the cars had always been speedy and painless as they have frequent airport shuttle service and readily staff!available
Addon Charges at Routes Car Rentals
I booked my car rental at Routes in Atlanta through a company called Economy Booking. I chose the rental as one of the lowest cost rentals available, but I was hit with an additional charge of $292 at pickup to cover liability insurance, even though I had bought "complete coverage" through Economy Booking. Also, that included $16/day for taking the car to a neighboring state. Ridiculous. In sum, after the add on, I would have been much better renting from Avis, Hertz, etc.
I would rate this company zero stars
I would rate this company zero stars! Don’t EVER book here! They could care less about the customer.
ATTN:Scammed by Routes promoted by Priceline.
Purchased car rental from priceline. When I arrived at the tpa airport we had to wait 50 minutes to take a minivan to a location away from the airport. When we arrived the car was not ready. They asked for proof of Insurance. When I provided my insurance card I was told that It was not proof of insurance. I was forced to pay an additional $400 because I did not have my insurance dec page. I had no option but to pay the difference because I was stranded five miles from the airport rental cars. The Routes rental contracts are predatory. Routes customer service is predatory. Routes has over 200 bad reviews on yelp.
I do not understand how the state of Florida allows a Canadian company take advantage of its tourist economy.
Was forced to buy their car insurance coverage
MCO Routes Car Rental Experience was so bad. Misrepresentation and forcing customers to buy their insurance coverage. I recently rented a car from Routes Car Rental via Expedia from 3/25 to 3/29. When I arrived to pick up a car, I was forced to purchase their insurance coverage in order to pick up the car. I was advised by an agent that no other insurance would be accepted as everything would only be considered as the secondary and Routes insurance is need to pick up. I stressed that I have full coverage under my personal and a credit card that I used to book the car rental. An agent just ignored me and asked do I want to pick up a car or not. No other alternative. Due to traveling with a kiddo, I had to accept their insurance to pick up a car and decided to call Routes customer care right after for assistance. First of all, no where on their site indicating that it is mandatory to purchase their insurance. So it is a big lie from an agent. The customer care line wasn't much help either. Asked me to send an email with proof of insurance and they would look into this. I did send in an email on 3/25 clearly indicating that I do not want to purchase the insurance and including my insurance proof. Routes team responded on 3/26 asking me for the proof insurance again (how incompetent when I did attach it with the prior email). Politely, I restated my position and reattached proof of insurance on 3/26. I didn't get any more response until 3/30 indicating that I didn't provide the proof of coverage at the point of rental. How can I provide a proof of coverage when your agent brushed me off and didn't even ask for one? They insisted me to purchase the Routes insurance coverage (no other choices). So either the corporate or an agent misrepresented! Bad experience for sure.
Other than that, the car is alright and shuttle agents are super nice and pleasant. Just so much upsells and misrepresentation though. Folks please be aware and stay away from this company.
Rental confirmation of MCO-194548 for Routes reference.
Awful company
There were so many hidden fees, and extra charges. No contact number, so I had to wait 2 hours for a replacement car when my car broke down the day after I got it. Customer service was incredibly rude. I prepaid for gas to keep it at the lower rate, and was overcharged. So many things wrong with this company, I recommend going with a more reputable company. The only positive was that Ricardo was amazing.
Fix Your Own Vehicles. Don't Leave It in the Hands of Your Customers
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent rental experience with Routes Car Rental.
A few days into my rental, I discovered that one of the tires had developed a slow leak. While traveling outside the city, I was forced to repeatedly stop and refill the tire, which was both inconvenient and concerning from a safety perspective.
Upon contacting the rental office, I was told that it was my responsibility to have the issue repaired. Following these instructions, I took the vehicle to Kal Tire, where I was informed that the tire had a pre-existing issue: it had been improperly patched in a location that should not have been repaired. I was advised that the tire required full replacement and that this damage would not have been detectable through a standard visual inspection at the time of pickup.
As a result, I lost a full day of my rental addressing an issue that existed prior to my use of the vehicle. I then had to return to the rental office to exchange the car, further compounding the inconvenience.
What is particularly disappointing is the response I received from your staff. I was initially told that the damage was my responsibility, despite clear evidence that it was pre-existing. Upon returning the vehicle, I was told the car had been “fine” when rented out, and no acknowledgment of the issue, apology, or compensation was offered.
It is unreasonable to expect customers to arrange and manage repairs for rental vehicles, especially when the issue stems from improper prior maintenance. This raises serious concerns about vehicle safety standards and quality control within your fleet.
At minimum, I believe I am entitled to:
Reimbursement for the time and inconvenience caused (including the lost rental day)
Compensation or a partial refund for the disrupted rental experience
A formal acknowledgment of the issue and steps taken to prevent similar occurrences
I strongly urge Routes Car Rental to review its vehicle maintenance practices and customer service policies. Customers should not bear the burden of addressing mechanical issues that originate from inadequate prior repairs.
I would definitely not use this company
I would definitely not use this company ever based on my recent experience.
I paid in full ahead of time through Expedia for our five-day rental. Our flight was delayed so I contacted Routes to let them know that we would be picking the car up a day late and they said that was fine, but they couldn't guarantee what car we would get which was fine with us.
We arrived the following day and were told that the car we would get would now cost us an additional $150 for the four remaining days. This was not mentioned the day before and made no sense. Having to drive to Canmore for a meeting that afternoon we had no choice but to take the vehicle.
I find this completely unacceptable and bordering on criminal. If we had arrived at the original time, they would have provided us with a car. If they had just left that same car in their lot for the day we weren't there, you would have still made the same amount and we would have received that car at the agreed upon price. Instead, they must have rented that car out (as it wasn't there when we arrived the following day). So, they got our original money, an additional day's rent from someone else on the car we rented, plus the $150 they chose to charge when they knew we had no other options for a rental.
To say this is unacceptable is putting it mildly. And based on other reviews this doesn’t appear to be a one-off situation. Save yourself a bad experience and rent with another company. I will never use this company again and will actively disparage them to anyone looking to rent a vehicle.
Terrible terrible experience
Terrible terrible experience. We waited an hour for the shuttle to come take us to the car @ Tampa airport. Once we go there we quickly realized we were not going to rent a car for what we had already paid for. They kept trying to add one insurance after another even though my own auto insurance covered me 100%. The price went from the $150 I already paid to $600 and change. I refused and went back to the airport to rent a car from a reputable company. Oh and I am not getting my $150 back either. That’s fine but I refused to do business with a bait and switch company. Avoid at all costs. You will regret being sucked in like I was for the cheaper cost.
I had an excellent experience with…
I had an excellent experience with Routes Car Rental from start to finish. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and stress-free. The vehicle was clean, well-maintained, and exactly as described.
A special thanks to Herman, Akash, and Vijay for their outstanding customer service. They were professional, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was handled perfectly. Their helpful attitude and attention to detail truly made a difference.
I highly recommend Routes Car Rental to anyone looking for reliable service and a great overall experience. I will definitely be using them again in the future!
The worst rental car company I have…
The worst rental car company I have dealt with in more than 40 years I have been traveling.
Their pick up locations is way out of the Atlanta airport. Their office DO NOT PICK UP THEIR PHONE when you want to find out about the shuttle. Their people at their front desk are RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL only wanting to charge you for extra fees and hide fact THAT THIS COMPANY CHARGES YOU IF YOU TAKE THEIR CARS OUT OG THE STSTE IF GEORGIA.
I WILL NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THOSE FOLKS. I am filing a full complain with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and I hope they go out of business soon so they NO LONGER RIPOFF THEIR CUSTOMERS…..
