Different seats ticketed
We chose seats, received a confirmation with those seats, but received different seats on the ticket. We called and were told there would be a "change fee" to change seats. We said "no way, we booked the other seats" and they changed them for free.

We always book the seats that the clients select or the best available seats of the same class. In your case, you selected seats 50 and 52 which were not together, but on opposite sides of the aisle. The reservation manager was confused by that and took the initiative, choosing for you the best seats next to each other. It was not a proper decision and we are sorry for that! We had a conversation with the staff that the seats chosen by the client cannot be adjusted without agreement with the customer.
We hope that despite this annoying incident you enjoyed your trip.
Sapsan is a fantastic alternative!

good experience
The ride started and ended on the minute. It was a smooth ride, regarding noise as well as general comfort.
I am a surveyor. Therefore, I looked at unusual details. I found the track fenced and estimated a width of three meters between the posts. This means 300 posts on a kilometre or 210.000 posts along the whole line, so 420.000 (both sides).
A good friend of mine has worked in Twer in Soviet times (ex Kalinin). So I made several pictures when we passed the city and sent them to him.

I would recommend using RussianRailways…
I would recommend using RussianRailways for booking trains in Russia. The site is easy to use and the response time is fast and friendly. Tickets can be self printed. It is also less expensive than other sites.

It's no wonder that there are hardly any foreign tourists in Russia!!
NO stars!!! When I called, staff promised to refund my cancelled journey if I rebooked the my new journey first, they didn't!! I was charged twice!! BEWARE of what they promise you unless your name is trump!!! There is no respect or sympathy for foreign tourists from Russians.!!!

We have to clarify that we are forced to obey the rules of the carrier, which, to our great regret, are incredibly inconvenient for customers. If the train departed, it is not possible to cancel the tickets online. For our part, we are doing everything to make it easier for customers to interact with the carrier.
Once the train has already departed from the starting point, we are not able to make any changes through the system online. The only possible option, in this case, is to cancel the ticket at the train station by the passenger itself (This is a requirement of the carrier that we cannot affect). To make it easier for you, we prepared all the paperwork. We suggested you call us from the train station so that we could help to communicate with the officials about the refund of the ticket.
During our phone conversation, we have told you that you will need to get a confirmation paper at the train station prooving that a cancellation was made. Only this document from the train station is a guarantee that the carrier will make a refund. Unfortunately, you did not follow our instructions, and the ticket was not canceled at the station.
To prevent the problem, we tried to contact you by phone several times after sending you all the instructions by e-mail but were unable to reach you, unfortunately.
We sincerely regret this issue, but unfortunately, we are not able to make a refund if we don't have it from the provider. We paid the carrier for the ticket, and they were not refunded with the carrier. However, we will fully refund our service fee.
