Victoria robbery leads to more negative experiences

I had a locker in Victoria BC for several years, dating back to before they took over from the previous company. After the first month, they snuck on an extra $10 on my bill with no notification. They also removed any staff from the premises, leaving it completely unmanned at all hours. After a year or so with them, a break-in occurred wherein the guilty party was able to remove and peel back the mesh screening on the top of my locker, as well as several others. I had no insurance on my items (to which I have learned my lesson), but according to the police officer in charge of the file, video footage and the officers fortuitous proximity to a conversation between staff shows that entry was due to a faulty door, and I was advised to pursue their insurance anyway, as the fault lay with the company. I contacted Sentinel Storage and asked about this, and the lady I spoke with said she would have to talk to the manager. After a few days of no reply, I called again, and spoke to a different person, who said I would need to talk to the manager, which ended up being the first person I spoke with! After a few more conversations, she said she would have to send it to the regional manager. A couple days after that, I was informed that their insurance does not cover loss of client items. I consider myself a pretty reasonable person. Break-ins happen, electronics malfunction, I understand that. But to not take responsibility for it when the whole thing was caused by your equipment is reprehensible. I personally lost over $10000 worth of items, never mind what the other victims lost. Also, while this process was going on, they sent an email out offering free insurance for one rental cycle, which is of course only a month. Reading more closely, it states you can talk to them to opt out of an auto-recurring insurance bill if you provide proof of your own insurance, otherwise, by the wording on their message, you are forced into paying them for their insurance. Finally, at the end of all this, I got an email saying the rates are being increased, I suspect to cover the cost of repairing the damaged mesh. No idea if the entry door was ever fixed. I changed storage companies that day, moving all my remaining stuff out immediately.

Sorry for the length of this, but I wanted to notify everyone of my full experience, stating only the facts, not injecting my own feelings into this.

Since this original posting, the management team has contacted me. As it was the same person I was dealing with initially, there was unfortunately no change. I will continue to update this if any new developments occur.

I have now been contacted by a different person in management. I was able to properly express my grievances, and she seemed to be genuinely sorry for the break-in (which honestly was more than I got from the other people I spoke with) and assured me that the faulty door at the heart of the matter was addressed immediately. Although there appears to be no way to get back the items I lost, I am satisfied enough with their latest response that I can stop pressing the issue any further.

Sentinel Storage business built on Fraud

Sentinel Storage built its business model on FRAUD. I rented a place Unit L15 in 7725 112th Avenue NW late 2025. I canceled weeks before expiration and informed the manager Mr Bolu and he acknowledged receipt. I even went ahead to authorise them to rent out the locker 2 weeks to expiration. The fraud started when the company stopped picking my calls and responding to my mails. They proceeded to process a debit of 70 buck based on FRAUD. I am having to cancel my card to prevent further fraud by the storage. My advise is avoid SENTINEL STORAGE. It makes money from fraud and not because of storage.

So i used this location before and had…

So i used this location before and had no issue for the year i was there and a year later went back and noticed all new staff. In my second month I got resurrected access because I let another renter in the door who i noticed was having a bad day including the code box. Ive chatted with this person inside the building and seen him inside multiple times and hes visited me at my unit and helped out with making room in unit. Here i found out next day or two days later i was suspended for entry. I went in office and the manager said om under investigation for thief and other things. Well he told me that this gentleman was evicted like 43 days earlier and that was a shock to me because i see him inside like 3-4 days aweek. I met this guy in the building and never him outside of the building. Well he broke into some units that evening and he used my code. Now i was no he did not but he did. I never gave him my code so thats a mystery on how he got it. But manager told me I wasn't aloud to be on site or access my unit until this investigation was done and he told mo matter the turn out of the investigation i would not be allowed to continue renting there. So I asked for his boss name and number and he said im the manager here you deal with me. Anyways a few weeks go by and ive asked to get my belongings out but was told i need a police escort and few ither details to go with it. But my unit was broken into and not the manager or other employee's had told me about it and here im trying to get my belongings the whole time and he withheld the break-in. I didn't find out about the break-in for another 2weeks later. So not only i didn't get my belongings he tossed them out to garbage he told me. Now ive asked for date of break-in so i can file a police report and see about what Sentinel is willing to do about all this. Like a manager failed to notify me of the problem with my unit and failed to have me get my belongings or at least allow me to see what was taken if everything was there or not. I might got evicted for something i didn't know or had to do with it from the guy who caused me to be kicked out but i just paid for the month like 3 days before. Im having trouble seeing why i lost everything and this manager tells me my contract was void do to my eviction so I didn't need to be notified. But i was still ablevto get my belongings as long as i went with the conditions he had set. Now he's at fault for failing to tell me but he says two different things about my contract and me getting my stuff still like what would have happened if i followed his condition and went to collect my stuff just to find out then it was broken into... think about that...

STOP AND RAD THE REVIEWS BEFORE RENTING AT SENTINAL

After selling our property in the city we decided to rent an RV spot in there so called secure monitored lot. They told me I had to keypad in and keypad out upon arrival and departure. After a couple weeks of starage I would come and go every so often to grab certain items and check in on it, Oct 31 at about 3:00 pm I went by as I needed my trailer for a job, upon arrival I noticed that the tongue was sitting on the ground and the back door locks had be cut and opened.
Only to find out my large tools had been stolen.
After looking at all the rest of the trailers I saw that two others had been broken into as well. I immediately went into the office and notified the staff member that was working behind the desk and she quickly made me very aware of there policy that it’s an open parking lot and you are responsible for insurance. Well of corse I have insurance or I wouldn’t trust it just any where.
But knowing they advertised this as Secure, 24/7 surveillance I decided to park it with them in good faith. The attendant told me that the manager would have to get back to me the next morning, as she couldn’t check the cameras, however she never did reach out to me, in fact I went in the following day and had to reiterate the whole situation to her, including the other trailers that were broken into! She never did relay any of the info.
I asked what kind of security is this and the integrity of there so called surveillance that they so boldly advertise. She told me that they only check cameras if there is motion after 11pm 😡
What a joke. We live in a country at this time of year we are pitch black dark at 7:30-8:00 pm. I asked if their cameras would send a notification after hours if there was motion and she said no! Another Joke! I can get better security with my RING cameras I had in my last property. How pathetic is this company. After this happened to me I proceeded to look at the reviews of this company and oh my goodness!!! I will never ever ever give this company another dime, if it was possible I would do everything in my power to monitor this company to see what is actually going on as a lot of this theft seems so suspicious to me! Especially when they hardly give you the time of day when approaching them about the tragic happenings. I’m beyond frustrated and certainly have learned my lesson to never rent from Sentinal Storage. Also if I can possibly take even the one start away I would as they certainly do not deserve it.
$3500 later in tools gone and a damaged trailer! Thanks Sentinal for the terrible service.

Great service!

Great service!
I needed a storage space for part of my mom's estate at a very emotional time with a move-out deadline looming. The staff at Sentinel Storage were so helpful and kind; the move in process was simple as was the end of the contract. I was very pleased with the clean facility and ease of access. I would recommend this service!

BE CAREFUL!

UPDATE:

BE CAREFUL!!!
If you put a friend on your emergency contact, and then REFER them through their referral program (up to $100), you WILL NOT get the $100 referral bonus because they are on your 'emergency contact.'

I was completely ripped off by their referral program because the person I referred was on my emergency contact list, and they are spending over $600 per month on a storage unit LONG TERM.

Also, I was called by the district manager, and this sums up the phone conversation.

*Ring Ring*
Hello?
-Yes, this is the manager for sentinel storage. Why you so unhappy? Why the google review?
*Your employees didn't reveal to me that my storage rate would go up every 6 months, I'm not happy considering I plan on being there long term. Also, you ripped me off with the referral program.
-Oh your not happy? How about we hold your rate until January of 2026. After that though, your rate goes up every 6 months.
*Oh okay, well I'll take the lock in rate, thanks, but there's no guarantee I will stay after that*
-Okay great, can you please update your google review?
*Sure, but keep in mind that it's against google's TOS to ask your customers to change their review.*

Company doesn't disclose the fact that they will increase your rent only 6 months after you've been there by almost 20%. This information was not portrayed to me at all upon signing my rental agreement. Sneaky business practices. Just make sure you understand that you rent WILL go up by a lot after 6-9 months.

My partner and I have had nothing but troubles with this company upon joining. It took them 6 weeks to fix a lightbulb in my partners storage unit. They kept making excuses.

Now the company is trying to enter my partner's unit without permission to 'fix' something and demanding he give them a key. I'm sorry, but what? Something just aint right. Pretty sure this is illegal. Hey, I may be wrong.

Sorry Sentinel.

Devonte

Ive been using Sentinel storage for a while now and visited the office today to make a payment , i chatted with a young man named Devonte and found him to be very polite, friendly and focused on me as a person and not just a customer. We had a pleasant conversation and Devonte seemed quite knowledgeable and had the answers to my questions.
The first guy i meet here was Derek who still extends his friendship and concerns to make sure im happy.

A good positive experience this far!

A safe space for things you can’t part with

We rented a unit for my dad when he was downsizing from a house to an apartment and then into an assisted living facility. The staff was courteous, professional and very helpful. The facility was clean, well protected, well lit and very well maintained. We rented there from 2020 until 2025 with no issues at all. I would highly recommend using their services should you find yourself in need of a storage facility.

My son rented a unit in August and bought the extra insurance. His unit was broken into and what wasn't stolen was trashed. They refused to cover it since they have no video surveillance but they said they did when we rented it . So heads up they have no video surveillance and their insurance will cover nothing so don't waste your money at this business. Go to a company that keep your belongings safe and secure because SENTINEL STORAGE DOESN'T. SHAME ON YOU. I give you 5 thumbs down 👎👎👎👎👎

The manager Gina I believe her name was, helped me so much with reversing a payment that was taken out of my account as I forgot to call and give 48 hours notice for them to pro rate the remaining 2 weeks that I needed instead of a month! So helpful and the lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and pleasant! Thank you both!

unit was robbed- with no help going forward in our claim

We rented our unit for 1 month, during that duration of time we were robbed. The staff was very unhelpful and unempathetic, its been over a month and no one has gotten back to us on our claim. The security is terrible, our entire unit was destroyed, things broken and lots of items were taken. We did pay for the extra insurance for our unit, with no help on how to go forward. I do not recommend using this company.

Poor customer service

I have been with this company for the last three years and previously they had amazing customer service but the last few months have been poor. Don't bother trying to contact them, they don't answer the phone, return calls or answer emails. Bathrooms are filthy and not working for over a week. Hopefully you can get it figured out but your customers that run businesses out of the suites are tired of the poor service when we pay so much for rent.
