spusu UK customer service is pretty rubbish

Sun 26th April 10.40am: Messaged spusu to request a physical SIM (instead of the eSIM I'd originally signed up for) and delay porting date from 1st May to 7th May.
Mon 27th April 3pm: Response from spusu, "If your SIM hasn't arrived by the 6th at 4:30, please reach out to us so we can take a look for you." (I thought, that could be cutting it a bit fine with the Bank Holiday coming up, but presumably they know what they're doing...)
Fri 1st May 8am (SEVERAL working days later): Automated email from spusu, "Your new SIM card... will be sent to your address today" (leaving only 2 working days for it to arrive).
Mon 4th May: Bank Holiday
Wed 6th May 5.20pm: Messaged spusu to request porting be delayed again because their SIM had indeed failed to arrive.
=== No response ===
Thu 7th May 3.50pm: My number having been ported, leaving my number unreachable, sent spusu an urgent message, "You didn't action my request, and I now have no working mobile number! NOT HAPPY!"
=== No response ===
Fri 8th May 4.10pm: Signed up with Lebara.
Sat 9th May 4.10pm: Requested a PAC code from my spusu online account (and that, at least, did work!)
Mon 11th May 11am: Lebara SIM arrived in the post.
Mon 11th May 2.20pm: Finally received spusu response, "Dear Customer. Apologies for the delay in response to your email! I can see that you have since requested a PAC code from us. Is there anything further that we can assist with?" No greeting by name. No mention of what I said. No apology for letting me down. No acknowledgement of the issue that's making me abandon them immediately.
Mon 11th May 4.15pm (this review): spusu SIM has still not arrived.
Tomorrow am: getting my number back with Lebara :o)

Very bad experience with this service…

Very bad experience with this service network provider. Most of the time network 5G to E within 1 minute gose down. I suffered plenty time to talk direct phone call aswell even emergency time I couldn’t call my family. Waste of money even It's a painful service provider.

Disappointed 😞

So far, I'm disappointed. They don't respond to my messages:(.. The eSIM card isn't compatible with my Samsung Watch 8, and I haven't found any information that this is the case. There's only information about other manufacturers, such as Apple, Google Pixel, and Huawei. I probably won't use this company again due to the very poor service quality.

I would not recommend Spusu based on my experiences

I moved to Spusu from BT, both of which use the EE network. Whilst BT worked perfectly, Spusu has been a disaster. Wi-Fi calling is atrocious, I cannot receive OTPs and customer services move at a snails pace. I raised an issue with their technical team 5 days ago regarding the OTP issue and I’m still waiting for a solution, despite chasing them twice. Do not make the same mistake I made. After just 3 weeks with Spusu, I’m looking for a new provider. If I could give zero stars, I would.

***Update*** Moved from Spusu to Lebara due to problems noted above and the signal is perfect and OTPs work as they should.

AVOID - Hidden price changes in contracts

The phone service is okay but at the 12 month stage my plan increased in price from £7.90 to £12.90 without notice and the 'email' I received pointed this out. Funny isn't it, I have every email from Spusu except this one??? AVOID

Hello Philip, thanks for your review.
It sounds like you have purchased an exclusive plan that can only be found on affiliated partner websites. These plans are clearly advertised as being priced at £12.90 per month, with a 12 month discount period - meaning your first year with the plan is priced only at £7.90.
Since your 12 month discount period had ended, you were subsequently charged the normal price for that plan.
I hope this helps clarify matters.

Overall its ok but with few reception…

Overall its ok but with few reception issues. The main problem is their answer machine . You recieve text message about left messages without the persons name although they are able to pick that up from access authorised during registration . so you must check through your diary to see whose number that is which truely is a pain. once you call to get your messages , the options are next to zero. previous companies gave you option to call back save for few days, go to your message box etc but nothing with spucu . i raised this as a problem with them but they said nothing can be done.

Spuse are genuinely the best phone service I have used in years. Great cost and service availability.

I also asked to downgrade my plan as I bought another for my personal phone and they just said it'll be done. No faff, no trying to sell me other options.

successfully ported 2 numbers…

I have successfully ported 2 numbers from O2 today and we are enjoying 115Mbps download speed on 5G with WiFi off. One time passwords coming through without any issues and very prompt response to a customer service query after I accidentally deleted my wife’s eSIM. A simple remedy by receiving a QR code from them. All for less than half the monthly cost. Really pleased so far

I decided to change over from a well known provider and I am glad I did,I have found the bigger company’s DO and WILL charge you a lot more.
I am now with spusu, the service they provide is far better than my previous provider .
Spusu provide an outstanding network and I don’t get the annoying calls asking me to upgrade my sim contract.
Well done spusu 5 stars from me, I should’ve switched over years ago.

Great network

Great network! Brilliant service and fantastic price! Been with the network since August 2025 last year. I made the switch after seeing the network ran on EE and was having poor signal issues with Three Network at the time.
Not had any issues and decided today to upgrade my plan to have some more data, called up the customer service team and got straight through to someone. Spoke to Julian and he helped change my plan straight away ready for activation next month. Would really recommend! Thank you.

I have little choice but to use them - won’t recommend unless you absolutely *have* to use the EE network like I do

EE is the best network where I live and work. All other networks give me weird mobile black spots at my workplace and also at home and I got tired of paying for data that I can’t rely on, so Spusu was a godsend in a way, as EE plans are so expensive and I’m not a heavy user. Also I’ve found on a road trip that their mobile data never failed on any section of the motorways or in villages. That’s the best thing about the EE network. Any other network = black spots galore. Spusu piggybacks on the EE network.

The downsides of Spusu in comparison to other networks I’ve tried are:

- when you sign up and it’s not the start of the month, they allocate you a “pro rata”rate of data where they divide the total GB you paid for per month and divide it by the number of days in a month, then multiply that by how many days are left in the month. So for instance I bought the 20GB plan and because it was on the 23rd of the month, they allocated me 5GB for the remaining 7 days of the month.

- if for any reason you use up your data, they DON’T WARN you by a text or app reminder. They simply cut your data off whenever it happens. For me, they cut my data off in the middle of my work day, so at the end of the work day when I was trying to load my bus mobile ticket to go home, the ticket won’t load. I didn’t figure it was because I used up all my data because I was used to being warned in advance by companies if I’m nearly using up all my data.

- once they cut off your mobile data, your phone’s Spusu app stops working. So you can’t even check the app to find out if your data’s finished and that’s why there’s no data - or if there’s a service outage - whatever the reason might be. You can’t buy additional data on the app either when this happens because the app simply stops working. What do you do? You have to call their customer service line to buy more data, which is some very difficult to remember phone number that… well, if you hadn’t saved it on your phone somewhere before this sort of issue happens you’re screwed, because unless you can get to a place with free WiFi to Google up their number, you can’t call them to buy data over the phone.

- additional data is expensive - it’s £4 per GB.

- their customer service agents are clueless. When I called them first time today to ask why I haven’t got any mobile data, they told me it’s cos I used up all my allocated “pro rata” data. I then told her that’s a really annoying time to cut the service as I need to get home and can’t load the mobile bus ticket on my phone if I don’t have data. No suggestion from the agent and no helpful words. Just radio silence. So the conversation ended. On hindsight she should have suggested I could buy data on the phone with her. I guess she just wasn’t bright enough.

I then paid for a new ticket with my credit card on the bus. Was travelling on the bus first 5 mins before I remembered when I used to be with other network providers, they offered the option to purchase extra data on their phone apps. Since Spusu app is the weirdest and most inept app on the market in the sense that once they cut all your mobile data service off, their app won’t work. So I had to call their customer agent again to ask if I could buy data on the phone with them.

This agent too didn’t fail to disappoint. First thing she suggested was that I should try to buy the extra data through the Spusu phone app. I reminded her that because they’ve cut my mobile data off, their phone app won’t work, so can I buy extra data on the phone with her instead? She said yes and processed it. On hindsight she should have just said yes I can buy data off her on the phone straight away, but no she suggested buying on the app when my data’s already been cut.

What mobile network company these days makes an app that stops working when the customer runs out of data? If I wasn’t forced to use EE due to my location, I would have switched to Vodafone, Lebara, Three, anything that had a more decent app and policy. This “pro rata” policy only Spusu has is absolute rubbish. People’s data usage fluctuates weekly. One week I might use less than 5GB, other week I use more. And then they cut off all your data when you finished your allowance without a word nor warning, and the app becomes unusable too. Yes, all their customer agents are based in the UK and they do pick up the phone almost straightaway when you call. But that’s not backed up by a decent knowledge of their product and their app usability. Both times I called today, it was I who had to figure out how to solve my problems by myself. They were useless with no helpful suggestions.
