Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it unhelpful and difficult to reach a real person. They also encountered issues with refunds, with many struggling to complete returns or receive their money back, even for games that didn't work or were purchased under specific conditions. Some people were dissatisfied with the product itself, citing buggy games, hardware issues like scuffed lenses or flickering, and problems with game functionality. Reviewers also mentioned difficulties with the user experience, including trouble creating accounts, connectivity issues, and being locked out of features. The website was also a source of frustration for some, particularly when trying to navigate account corrections or deal with support.

A couple of weeks ago I registered in…

A couple of weeks ago I registered in Steam To play licensed games. The interface is generally simple, nothing complicated. So far, I've only played free games, but eventually I think I'll buy a trending game at a discount. By the way, discounts are common here, so it's important to keep up with the updates. The only thing is, games have become very expensive lately; some are expensive even with a discount.

Can't use my new account. Useless customer services.

Can't even use my new account.

Signed up and the steam updates kept failing. Telling me I wasn't allowed to use a VPN. So I turned off my VPN to install steam.

After this steam has signed me as living in Netherlands which is where the VPN was set before disconnecting.

I tried to pay and I can't buy the game because my payment method isn't from Netherlands. Because I don't live there.

Of course they make it difficult to just go onto your account and correct it. You have to contact customer services.

I contacted customer services who clearly didn't even bother to read my message. They just replied telling me I had to use a payment method from the country I am currently it. Which is exactly what I'm tryiing to do. Useless customer services. Just set my account to the correct region!

Critical Issues with Forced Automatic Updates Breaking Game Launches and Save Files

I am writing to report serious and persistent technical issues concerning Steam's automatic update system, which severely degrades the user experience.

Games are initiating updates at arbitrary times, frequently resulting in two critical problems:
1. Game Launch Failures: After an update, the game often fails to launch correctly or becomes entirely unresponsive.
2. Save File Corruption/Integrity Issues: Saved game progress frequently stops working or becomes inaccessible following the forced update.

Specific Example: I was playing a game (e.g., Europa Universalis IV with mods) for over 6 hours. I stepped away for two hours. Upon my return, Steam immediately forced an update. Although the game visually loaded, the screen became completely unresponsive, and I could not interact with the game at all.

These recurring situations of forced updates corrupting the session and preventing further play are unacceptable and lead to a significant waste of time.

I urge other users experiencing similar game-breaking issues to document them, as collective action may be necessary to compel Valve to address these fundamental platform flaws and ensure a stable gaming environment.

I've been using Steam for about 10…

I've been using Steam for about 10 years now and have never done a review for them.

My experience has been nothing short of superb in all fairness.
I have around 50 games currently in my library but have probably bought around 75 from Steam. Owing to Steam's fantastic refund a game that you have played for less that two hours policy. I have tried many games that I wouldn't have usually touched knowing that if I don't get on with it I can refund it, likewise have kept games that I wouldn't have ever bought just in case I didn't like it.

Steams service very seldom goes down and their customer service in my experience has been brilliant too.
While every other gaming service seems to be trying to rinse their gaming community for everything that they have, Steam still have things right.
Thank you!

Steam is the final frontier of great gaming!

For a DRM store, they havent shown any sign of turning against the people. Lord Gaben spreads his wings of discount upon us. And the flock feeds. Steam family sharing has let us play our games within our house holds so easily, on any device. Steam truely is the best and only platform, where EA, Ubisoft Connect, Epic and many others have failed so pathetically. Steam stands on the pile of their horrible UIs, terrible download speeds, and other than Epic, out of touch sale prices. Steam hasnt always been at the top of their game, but they are showing that they are going to be the dominant platform, and a console to come, Steam deck has been such a success. The console will come soon. Big Picture already lets you make your TV a console, Steam has Operating Systems, they invest into the gamers, for the gamers, and sure, they are a business at the end of the day. But the have allowed developers, and indie artists to exist. How these bots managed to drop these ratings is beyond me. This is a 5 star service.

You won't own the games you buy, but no issues yet after many years of using them.

I've been using steam for many years now. I've never had a problem with them, although I can understand the frustration of other users on here if they lost access to their entire library over a ban.

I use it on Windows and Linux and it's been great so far.

I also bought a SteamDeck and it came quickly. Everything worked fine out of the box.

Unfortunately, with Steam you are only purchasing a license to the games, not the game itself. So they can revoke access at any time.

Steam stole my videogames

I bought like 15 videogames or more, never used any cheating program or bot, nothing; suddenly they just shot my wall and subscription a way! They just claimed that I violated some rule, they never told me which or what, and they took a way all my games, advances and everything! Don't spend money on this bad company!

My account got hacked

My account got hacked, I wasn’t using my steam profile, them when logged in my steam account I got banned. I was trying to get some help with steam support but they only says that they can’t remove ban.
Also, I have already sent many proofs of my email, steam and many others social medias has been hacked and my email and passwords are leaked… they just don’t care about that.
And I remember I opened a ticket a few months ago, reporting someone logged on my steam account, they didn’t nothing about that

Steam Support doesn’t even read your message and shifts blame

I tried to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 during the 2025 Summer Sale. The offer was supposed to run until July 10th, but the discount disappeared early so I couldn’t purchase it at the advertised price, despite being well within the official sale period.

Steam Support gave me copy-paste replies that completely missed the point.

They treated it like a refund request (it wasn’t).

Then they tried to shift the blame to the publisher, saying Steam doesn’t control third-party discounts.

That’s simply not true. The offer was promoted on Steam’s own platform, with Steam’s own sale timer. If the deal is gone early, that’s still Steam’s responsibility. You can’t advertise something to millions of users and then walk away when it disappears too soon.

They closed the ticket without ever acknowledging what actually happened. No accountability, no support, just “case closed.”

Steam is great when everything works. But the moment something goes wrong, especially outside of refund scripts or account resets, you’re on your own.
Very disappointing and unprofessional.

I bought F1 25 on Steam and it never…

I bought F1 25 on Steam and it never worked properly — not in VR, not even flat. I use a powerful RTX 4060 laptop and Pico 4 Ultra VR headset. I spent hours trying to fix performance issues, never actually playing.
I asked for a refund, got two automated denials. I replied with full context on June 24. No answer since. No human support.
I had to buy the PS5 version just to play the game properly. This is unacceptable customer service for a product that clearly failed to deliver what was promised.

I got hit with a community ban on Steam…

I got hit with a community ban on Steam without ever being told what exactly I did. No comment or post was shown, no rule mentioned. Just a sudden block and then silence.
When I contacted support, they basically told me “it was reviewed and it’s valid” — without offering a single detail. They also said I wouldn’t get any further replies. That’s it.
What’s frustrating is how this feels less like an actual rule violation and more like someone with the “right values” got offended and hit report — and the system just ran with it. No human check, no second opinion. Just automated punishment, rubber-stamped by support.
I've been using Steam for years. I’ve never had issues. Now I’m locked out of community features because someone decided they didn’t like my tone or opinion — and the system is clearly set up to side with them by default.
If moderation is driven by feelings and ideology instead of facts and rules, that’s a serious problem
