The transaction fees are really starting to eat into my margins. Support is also much slower than it used to be. Had some issues getting the API to play nicely with my site.

Stripe stole our money

Hello, everyone.
I'd like to share my recent experience with Stripe. We have a game with virtual world and we have in game purchases for our users there. Before we integrated Stripe to our game we consulted the rules and also a member of support team - just to be sure we
are eligible to use the service. As we got affirmative answers we created a profile in the system - and it got checked and approved.
Then we launched the game and users started making purchases.

After a while there appeared one user who created multiple accounts on fake emails and made multiple purchases. We noticed his actions and blocked him.
But all the other users were 100% legal and they got the items they paid for.

However, Stripe decided to cancel ALL the operations and return the money to the users regardless to the fact that they paid for the services we could not take back.

We tried to contact them and reason with them - but in vain. The support team was useless and the dialogue with them was pointless. Stripe just stole our money.

Owner of Art's by Joni Joan LLC

I am new to the world of e-commerce, I had a horrible experience with Pay Pal , but stripe was wonderful.. thank you. Stripe offers apple pay as well. Pay Pal held payments for too long, with Stripe I received my payment in a matter of days.- My customers are happy. I had lost some customers via Pay Pal but you guys are getting me back in the game.

Thank you

The Pandemic has NOT affected Stripe's Customer Service

What I appreciate most about Stripe is their customer service. They are always available 24x7. Many other vendors I a using during this pandemic, have had horrible service, like long wait times, can't get through and/or some have even just ignored requests. NOT STRIPE. They are on top of their game.

Happy Customer!

I have been using Stripe awhile now and it has always been fast payouts. I did have my account on a brief hold once, however, support was on their game and communicated clearly with me why this happened. After a few tweaks it was unblocked and I received my payout! I will continue to use Stripe for all my business as I feel it is the best solution out there.

Warning

Warning!
For all who do not want bankruptcy, stay away from stripe.
Stripe is a well planned game . As soon as your sales get higher, they will hold your payments by saying that there is a risk of disputes on your account and ruin your business by holding your payments for 90days .

They refused to give any explanation when they held my payment . There is no dispute on my account. My account is verified and their radar system did not show any risks. But yet they decide to reserve my payments.
And when I asked for the explanation, I was told that stripe and my company cannot work together since they weren't able to explain the reason why they reserved my money.
Just because they think there is a risk of disputes on your account, you would not be able to continue your business. They should understand that
It takes years of hard work to build up a business and many lives depend on these businesses. But
It's so sad to read all these reviews that many had to close down their businesses because of stripe and they are still running this ridiculous company.

I do not want any feedback from stripe because its not only about my account . I want to warn others.

Unfortunately, we are unable to process payments for businesses we determine to be at high risk of a dispute rate exceeding the industry standard of 1%, and your business' dispute is currently in excess of this amount. We are happy to work with you to identify best practices for lowering your dispute rate if you reach out to us at support.stripe.com/email

In order to mitigate future losses to Stripe as a result of chargebacks, a partial reserve has been set in place on your account that will last for 90 days. Funds will be transferred to your account at the end of this period. While there is a reserve in place, you can still log into your Stripe dashboard, process refunds to the customers whose funds are held and reprocess these funds with a different processor if you need immediate access to the funds.

Don't risk your business on Stripe

We chose Stripe because it was a popular choice among our competitors.

With no prior warning, we received notice that our account will be closed permanently in 5 days due to operating in a "high risk" industry. This is despite the fact they advertise multiple companies on their website as their customers who operate in exactly the same space.

The 5 days we have been given fall on a weekend, giving us only 3 business days to choose a new provider and integrate it within our system. This is a ludicrously short amount of time and simply isn't possible.

Implementing Stripe into our system was expensive use of development time, which we trusted Stripe to maintain. We are now forced to repeat this process with another provider.

We have been in contact with their support but have received no explanation. We have received nothing but canned replies. We offered to increase fraud detection checks on both our website and Stripe as well as a delayed payout or increased holdings on our account, but Stripe will not assist us. Our questions have been avoided and they have been unwilling to look into the case.

We've been in business for over 5 years and have a very low chargeback rate. We provide server hosting, like thousands of other companies using Stripe, including customers they advertise on their own website (DigitalOcean & RackSpace).

Using Stripe is a game of Russian roulette. If Stripe will do this to us, they can do it to you as well. It is not worth the risk of trusting Stripe with your business.

Stripe has been a great asset for our growing company. Recently reached out to customer support and they were on top of their game - quick response with a wonderful outcome with people that truly cared. Love how they are continually working at making their services better fitted for our needs. They are trustworthy and more than competent.

They could destroy our New Company!

We are a start up company specialising in short term Accommodation.

Out of the blue we received an email stating that we are violating our 'Terms of Service' - after reading through the ways in which Terms of Service can breached which includes providing;

Gambling services, credit or investment services, money or legal services, virtual currency services, Intellectual property or proprietary rights infringement, Counterfeit or unauthorized goods, Regulated products and services, Adult content and services, Get rich quick schemes, Mug shot publication or pay-to-remove sites, No-value-added services, Aggregation, Drug paraphernalia, High risk businesses, Multi-level marketing, Pseudo pharmaceuticals, Social media activity, Substances designed to mimic illegal drugs, Video game or virtual world credits, Use of Stripe in a manner inconsistent with its intended use or as expressly prohibited in the Terms of Service.

We could see no way in which our business has 'violated' by engaging in any of the above. We simply provide short term accommodation (under 6 months) to guests in our beautiful apartments which we have worked very hard to create. We sell our rooms through legal and well used sites, and the only site used for bookings which Stripe processes payments for is Booking.com (well known and used by millions across the world).

We have been very unlucky and experienced 2 chargebacks in a very short space of time, though now fault of our own.

To add insult to injury, Stripe are suggesting they will be keeping our hard earned money for 90 days to protect them from further chargebacks and I am unable to get a response from their 'email only service'. It is now Saturday and I suspect they are closed over the weekend - which leaves our new business in limbo and could cause us MAJOR financial issues as the amount they intend to hold needs to be used to pay our overheads for the month.

Whilst I understand and respect that all business's operate differently, I cannot understand why, and find it outrageous that a company can do something like this with only 5 days notice and no discussion - they have attached no reasons or evidence for which 'Terms of Service' we have breached which without evidence means they are holding money for no reason for 90 days - could that be classed as theft? I may be asking my solicitor if I don't get answers soon.

During a routine review, we identified strong signals that your account does not fall within our Terms of Service. When we discovered this, we informed you via email that the dispute rate for your business exceeded the industry standard and we are unable to process payments for businesses we determine to be at high risk for a dispute rate exceeding 1%. Your business also falls under our prohibited business list, as your site describes your business as "property investment services", which is prohibited here: https://stripe.com/us/prohibited-businesses#financial-and-professional-services

In order to mitigate future losses to Stripe as a result of chargebacks, a reserve was set in place on your account that will last for 90 days. Funds will be transferred to your account at the end of this period. While there is a reserve in place, you can still log into your Stripe dashboard, process refunds to the customers whose funds are held and reprocess these funds with a different processor if you need immediate access to the funds.

Poor attempt at TechFin. Run!

Absolutely deplorable customer experience. Since they hand out accounts to everyone with a pulse, millions of small business owners like myself are duped into thinking we're in the clear. First high transaction, it's game over. TechFin companies like this need to realize it's fine and dandy to be 'cutting edge', but when your risk model is screwing people over left and right.

Besides, what kind of company doesn't have a live person to talk to? My new processor may have a few hundredths of a point extra fees, but for a live voice, that's fine by me.

The worst of the worst

Stay away from Stripe - as far as you can. They are just a large scale scam and puppets to the acquiring banks. They will ruin your company. Their communications sucks and they insult customers by not even offering a phone number to contact them. This is a financial institution, not some game. Find a reputable payment provider instead.
