STRØM Bikes 

I was not planning to get an electric bike. But the my daughter introduced us to her STRØM City bike and now my wife has the Women bike and I have the City bike. They are both great bikes and we have had no serious issues with the bikes.
I see a lot of frustrated reviews from other supporters and I can understand the frustration if your new bike is not the quality you expected. I our case we are extremely happy with the bikes. Nice design, good quality and a very low price for an electric bike.
STRØM is a start-up company and we knew that buying a bike through crowd funding could very well be a different experience - but not in this case.
I will absolutely recommend STRØM Bikes.

I have had a Strøm City Bike now for about 2 months. I ride for exercise 3 to 6 times a week, and I love this bike! Having the pedal assist sure made it easier to get back into cycling with all of the hills around my home in Kentucky. I got the options of hydraulic forks, adjustable handlebar stem, and hydraulic disc brakes. Although the bike is heavier (batteries) than even a steel frame bike, with the pedal assist on the lowest level, it behaves like a regular bike. The seat is super comfortable to ride for 12 miles (about 19 km), and I don't wear padded bike shorts on my usual exercise ride. Although I have lights on my helmet, the integrated lights on the bike have come in very handy in the dark when I've forgotten to charge my helmet lights. With its sleek design, many admirers of the bike don't even realize that it's electric. I just bought a WomenBike for my daughter so she can ride the hills with me. The bike's fit and finish is exemplary, and the packaging got the bike to me undamaged. I had only to make minor adjustments to the brakes and the derailleur after assembly. Having evaluated a number of electric bikes, the Strøm City was my first choice, and I couldn't be happier!

I can highly recommend a bike from STROEM. I bought a white womens bike and have never enjoyed riding a bike this much before:)
Good price. Good quality. Quick and easy delivery and excellent costumers service!

I received my bike a little later than originally promised however, Strom was always transparent. I expected that. With that being said, my bike arrived flawless. The box took a beating but everything else was good. I found an assembly guide video that was extremely helpful. I have no had the bicycle for about 8 weeks and it performs beautifully. An owner’s manual would have been nice but through the process of self discovery, I was able to answer all my questions. Great bike, great value.

Have clocked more than 2600kms now - had a little problem with the battery which was fixed in a few days thanks to quick support.

Broken engine after two months of use. Absolute lack of support from the company.

Now I have 500km on my STRØM City Bike and my wife has 400km on her bike and we are very happy with it.

Yes it takes somemore time to get the bike, but now we have it and it fits perfekt in our life.

We can drive 120km without charging and the 5 step adjustment works immaculate. The components (shift, breaks, adjustible handlbar a.s.o ) are high standard and perfect for this type of bike.

The support reaction time is very short (max. 24h) and I always got clear answers and solutions.

The STRØM Team did a great work. The design, the technik, the parts and the support is "Premium"

I had to fight with them for months to cancel my order. Eventually they sent me the bike anyway and when I refused the delivery and they finally had no choice but to refund me, I got only a partial refund.
They claim that I have to pay for the delivery, which is absolutely against the law ! (And they kept way more than the cost of the delivery, by the way)
I will have to start a legal action to get my money back.

This company is not to trust.

If you have similar problems, have a look at european customer rights. You are protected against this and even though they will claim that you are not, they can't stand that position forever.

I purchased the Strom City Bike and I love it! The size runs crazy big, so I’m glad I got a medium! The bike was worth the wait and the Strom team did a fantastic job designing, building, and delivering the bike (although ran late). When I show friends and family the bike, they all comment on how beautiful the bike is. When I let someone take a test ride, they are blown away at how fast and comfortable it is! I use my bike to commute to and from my workshop which is heading out of town, so about a 15 mile commute round trip. I usually take my dog with me to work in the rear basket, and she loves it!

Does not comply to stated return rights.
Barely existent support for low quality goods.
Not delivered as ordered.

Stay away from it!

Poor quality, no after sales service or warranties. Made in Thailand. Would not buy again.

Quality issues ranging from loosening screws on brakes, defect displays, faulty batteries, squeezing wheels, accessories not fitting, noisy engine, malfunction gears, and so on and I am only talking about my 2 bikes!

Danish customer here. Ups and downs with my bike but a year in I gotta say that Strøm has finally nailed the customer service, which for long was their big problem. I really like my bike, the US model, and I can honestly say its great value for small money.

Waited 2 weeks to have an answer for the support while it took them 1 day to answer for delivery support... They claimed the bike was all about quality and finally it is cheap equipment

For a long time no response on complaints.
The start of the project was good, but nowadays they are acting like a bankruptcy organization.

Update november 2019
After a long time, they started to solve the issues and also they start to react on all the emails with a positive mindset.

I Received all the items as promised..
Because a shortage of time I have to upgrade my bike, but I like te responses of Strøm.

After claiming the broken fork I got a new one after around 3 weeks. Contact was good, responses within 0-3 days.
The replacement went without 2 necessary parts for mounting: lower bearing shell of the fork spar (metallic, not removable of the old one) and the fork handlebar clamp. I was offered to by the parts from a local bike trader and get the amount refunded but I preferred getting them by strømbikes. The parts arrived within 14 days with TNT.

When assembling bike and fork, I noted that the new forks holm was 3,0cm longer than the old one. So I got me a spacer rings set from XLC.

Now, finally, my bike rolls smooth and after the first 50 km I have no further complains.

Due to the good efforts of the strømbike-Team, I will give them now 4 stars, even when it should be expectable, that, as it was the second bike project of this team, that things run smoother overall.

Contact was allways friendly and willing to help!

I got. Mythos bike just ohne month after Order the perk via indigogo.
The Box seemed rather ok but after unboxing i found the fork damaged so i couldnt Place the front wheel. I complained with customs and got. the answer that they are aware of the Problem. They will try to solve the problem and they will contact me and that i should Not contact them. Singe then i m waiting.

I Wonder why they dont check every bike before Sending them from danmark to there Customer. A Friend of mine got. the bike and the Box was visualisiert Opend and checked.........why Not Mine.......

News from strøm bike. I Shall receive a new fork next week!

I'm 77 years old and live in Pleasant Hill, TN. We moved here with bikes. I had a twenty-one speed mountain bike but found the hills here more than I wanted to manage riding. The Strom City Bike has give new life to my bike riding. I have found no hill to steep to bike with the Strom City Bike.

I am very, very, very happy with my new Stroem City Bike in Size M - 26 inch version. It is very agile and nimble to drive!

The delivery was complete and all parts seem to have high Quality. There were 5 very helpful building tools in the package, which makes the completion very easy. I am not a born do-it-yourself guy - so I need a little longer for completing the bike than average, but I think you can do it in about 1 1/2 hour....
I am a great fan of 26 inch wheel-size - bikes and do prefer their stability and agility much over 28 inch bikes.
If you want an e-bike with 26 inch and back wheel hub motor you have to consider the Stroem City bike - or exactly 4 other choices:
1. Velotraum VK 3E which cost EUR 4.800,—,
2. Another Velotraum with mit Pinion-Gear Box for EUR 5.800,— -which is exaktly 4 times as expensive as the Stroem City!
3. The wonderful Simplon Kagu Neodrives (from EUR 3.999,- to EUR 4.858,-- —— in Shimano XT 10 here (EUR 4.858,—) testet in a german bike-magazine......
4. The Stromer Bikes from Switzerland: ST1, ST2, ST3, ST5 for EUR 4690,-- to EUR 9.490,-- - not exactly cheap, but able for speeds up to 45 km/h (28 miles per hour)
So you understand, why for me as a 26 inch-wheel-size fanboy the stroem-bike was a good and affordable choice!
What can you expect?
Well: forget about the USD 999,-- price if you live in the EU.
There will be some 31 % taxes you have to ad and a USD 19,-- fee.
So the iniegogo Price raises a bit. Add all taxes, add the shipment, add the Tektro hydraulic brakes (USD 189,-- plus Taxes) and here we are: I have had to pay EUR 1463,14 and the bike is now mine.....
Is it worth the price? Yes, absolutely!!!!
To buy a bike in this quality range in a bike shop would - if it would even exist- cost you something between EUR 3.000,-- and EUR 3.400,-- - but you won´t find EUR 3.000,-- 26 inch back wheel hub motor bikes there!
The bikes, I mentioned (Velotraum, Simplon, Stromer) have all slightly better, more expensive Components but they beginn with EUR 4.000,-- to EUR 4.800,-- and they are really open end!

But what can you really expect? Kritiks?

1. The size M bike has 570 mm frame size, so it is not exactly M but more something between M-L. Can´t imagine that a 160 cm guy can become really happy with the Stroem.... The Stroem People say, the size M City -Bike is perfect for People between 160 to 180 cm. I think it is more for people between 170 and 195 cm.... at least if you add a suspension Fork and a Saddle with suspension. I am glad to be 174 cm and not 160 cm....

2. There was no Stroem instruction manual with the bike. Just the manuals from Tektro (Brake) and Shimano (Gear Box). It was not really a problem, because the whole bike was nicely preassemled, and even not the born do- it-yourselfer, for me it was not more complicated than assembling the typicall amazon China Children bikes 5 years ago....

3. It just supports 25 km/h. No tricks, no hacks. So there are no tuning possibilities for the 250 Watt Bafang motor. The Bosch Motors (build in in the middle of the frame) in other bikes makes it easy to manipulate the max. supported speed.
The 32 km/h (20 miles per hour version) of the stroem-bike seams not to be aviable momentanely for Europe. Even the LCD Computer will not make you able to switch the supported speed from 25 km/h to 32 km/h. So the Stroem bike - "speedwise spoken" -makes not as much fun as e. g. the Cowboy-bike for EUR 1.990,--

4. The weight (some remarks from me):
The Stroem City in M 26 inch with large Akku is exactly 23,45 kg!
That is at least 1.5 kg less than the lightest of the other "dreambikes" I mentioned: Velotraum beginns at 25 kg, the Simplon is 26.05 kg and the Stromer bikes are even more than 26 kg.
But: 23.45 kg is not exactly light in comparison with some really lightweighted e-Bikes like the Cowboy or the new Sushi Bike (sushi-bikes.com). But all these bikes are lecking of a gear box or a mudguard etc......
What is not so funny is, that there seems to have been a press release - in an older article from 2018 I read that it would weight just 19.5 kg with Akku, which is simply a lie! Even without Akku the bike weights 20.45 kg. The large 140 AH Akku weights exactly 3.00 kg.

5. Can you hear the motor?
The Bafang engine is silent, it is just a slightly whispering, much more silent than the Standard e-bikes with the engine in the middle. But is it without any sound? No! The high-end engines from neodrives (as an example) wich are 10 times as expensive than the Bafang maybe not hearable at all.

6. The shimano gear-box
You get a shimano Tourney 7-gear gear switching with a sis Gearbox. The shifting of the gears is fun and precise - but in my bike I can´t reach the first gear. So the box shows gear 1 and it is gear 2 - precise gear 2, the box shows gear 2 and it is precise gear 3, the box shows gear 3 and it is precise gear 4 and so on.
Perhaps that can be fixed, but because it is an e-bike I really don´t need the first gear. Yesterdy i climbed a mountain (up to 10 %) in gear 2 and it was no problem at all with electric supporting level 3 or 4.

5. The coooool thing
When I have signed the Stroem-bike at indiegogo 14 days ago there were options for different Batteries: 104 Ah and 140 Ah. The larger one has had a surcharge of USD 200,-- or USD 300,-- - I can´t exactly remember.
I expected to get the smaler one, because I didn´t choose the option for the larger, much more expensive battery.
But what I got was the large 140 Ah / 504 Watthours battery! Cool! It makes a price-worthy bike even much more price worthy! Look: The beautifull Cowboy bike as an example has NO USB Charging possibility for your cellphone - but the bike is a EUR 2.000,-- bike - the Van Moof Bike as an example costs EUR 2.800,-- (and will cost EUR 3.400 soon) and has NO Hydraulic-brakes!!! The Stroem-Bike seams to really have al the little features you want (as an example wonderfull punkture-proof Schwalbe tires) and the sub EUR 1.500,-- Price is an all inclusive Price. Mr. Hüllsmann from Kalkhoff told some journalists when they asked why the Kalkhoff Berleen e-bike has no USB Charging possibilities, that this would habe increesed the costs up to EUR 200,-- (The Berleen is a EUR 2.499,--) bike!

6. Smartphone Holder
The guys from Stroem also add a nice-to-have smartphone holder - you can save some bugs because there is no need to buy it at amazon for something between EUR 20,-- and EUR 70,--.
So the Stroem is realy realy an all- inclusive thing!

7. The diefference between the idiegogo price and the real price of the Stroem-bike.
There is really no difference at all. If you live in Europe you have to pay for the USD 999,- bike realistical ca. EUR 1465,-- shipping inclusive. Hydraulic braces inclusive, taxes and fees inclusive and in my case also the large battery inclusive. The price for the opening offer is exactly the same EUR 1465,-- all inclusive. Perhaps they raise the price later to EUR 2.000,--
Perhaps some guys feel a little bit pisset, because they were early backers and don´t have any advantages! Not really my problem, because I was a late boy (ordered on the 21. of July 2019).

8. Communication with the Stroem guys:
Every e-Mail was respondet within 24 hours. Most of the Questions were answered by Morten, one of the two founders himself. The shortest time was 8 minutes, so that I can´t complain.

Conclusion:
The Stroem bike makes fun to ride (saying this, I own it just since the 5. of August 2019). If you can get a version which has a maximum speed of 32 km/h take this version!!!! Even it is illegal to take a ride at public streets in Europe, that would make even a lot MORE fun!
But, after all, my 25 km/h 250 Watt version is also worth two times the money I have spend. You can compare the bike with EUR 3.000 bikes from the shops out there. Even the price is much closer to EUR 1.500,-- than EUR 1.000,- it is a real bargin!
If you have won in the lottery, buy a velotraum, a Simplon or a Stromer.
If not, buy a Stroem City 26 inch Bike, add a Suntour SP 12 NCX suspension for the seatpost for less than EUR 100,- and a Brooks B 67 saddle (also less than EUR 100,--) and you have one of the finest bikes money can buy.

Excellent customer service - quick and very helpfull.. im surprised to read all of these bad reviews and cannot help but think that maybe its lack of communicative skills that is the cause of slow and poor customer service to americans. I am danish and all the correspondence was in danish. I was so happy that I ordered another bike for my mum and I think ill buy the womens bike as well! Thank you!

The brake mount on the fork was not parallel welded to the wheel / brake disk. Therefore, it was not possible to assembly the front breaks. Finally, I ended up in a bike shop which milled the brake mount. I am absolulty no amused about the quality controll and the customer service. After mailing and several skype messages I recieved the offer of a new fork... But where is the benifit? I paid already for the mechanical revision... and if I would say "yes" to the new fork, I have to pay again the import duty.
So I wanted to know if there was a possibility to get a hydraulic fork ... and yes I would not have had a problem to pay something extra. Feedback from customer service:
"Hi Martin, the hydraulic suspension fork is not suitable for your bike frame." And that's a lie, the hydraulic fork was an upgrade option during the order ...
For me, this business relationship is over ... it is sad, because until today I was looking forward for the woman bike

this is a very low bike sold as premium one, you will wait for months to have it, and you cannot send it back after test it. Components and engine is very low quality and the customer service is like a joke.
Stay away from this people and this company, don't make my mistake to believe them.
