Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the products, describing them as cheap, mass-produced, and not as advertised. Customers frequently mentioned that the quality was poor, with shoes made of plastic or thin, imitation leather rather than the promised high-quality materials. The price was also a point of contention, with many feeling the cost was far too high for the low-quality items received. Additionally, the website was criticized for inaccurate product descriptions and inaccurate sizing charts. Some people were dissatisfied with their orders, reporting issues such as late deliveries, incorrect sizes, or only receiving part of their order. Conversely, a small portion of people were satisfied with their purchases, finding the shoes to be of good quality, comfortable, and well-made, with some even receiving excellent customer service when addressing minor flaws.

Fraud

I couldn't resist! I saw these shoes and decided to ordee the least expensive choice. Several days after I ordered, I received an email saying that my order was delayed because they were still being handmade in the shop! I knew then that I had been had, as they are only supposed to be selling the remaing stock. When the shoes arrived, they came in a plastic bag, no shoe box. They are made of synthetic materials and with no brand name. They offer no support and are very flimsy. Stay away from this scam!

Shoes are great

Shoes are great, ordered one,one size too big I bought four pair. Had no problem returning them and I’m waiting for the correct size to get to me. They have been very helpful and helping me return the shoes for a new pair.

The “story”

The “story” , of clossing down is AI generated and it looked like a scam to me. Came on Trust Pilot others saying the same, with the difference that they bought already.

Fake, Huge Scam

First of all Tanner and his wife are 100% AI generated and not real people. The people you see reviewing and hyping up their shoes in videos are hired actors that can be found on fiverr. Furthermore, the shoes are pieces of garbage bought for 48¢ on aliexpress being resold for 40 dollars. I also find it interesting how Tanner has been making these shoes for over 40 years yet his website was established o so recently. If you're trying to scam people, do better. It's clear that no effort was put in to even make this try to look convincing, and i could recreate the same thing in probably 15 minutes.

Does it matter

Does it matter? I thought you were closing down business? The boots I ordered were not quite what I was expecting. As a boot, I expected thicker heavier leather with stiffer soles. That does make them more comfortable but, they are more "fasionable" than practical as a hiking boot. My other boots had heels too hard and noisey, slippery. I am adding to the heels.

Henry and Margaret "Tanner" don't even exist this is a scam

Luckily, I learned about online scams and avoided ordering when I realized all the site's photos, including 'Henry & Margaret Tanner,' were AI-generated. Running their pic through an AI image detector confirmed my suspicions. This 'retirement sale' is a sham – Henry & Margaret don't exist, so they can't retire. More likely, the 'company' will vanish after swindling enough victims. That's the real 'retirement' plan. Do a Google search for "Free AI Image detector", and use them. Very helpful identifying scams.

False advertisement

False advertisement. Shoes are not premium leather. They are poorly made of all synthetic material. The shoes I received had a different bottom sole like a work boot pattern instead of a quality dress shoe sole. Stay away, do not buy. They make you pay for the return which is $65.00 from Texas back to China. It’s a lose lose situation. Buyer beware

Please do not be fooled by all of the…

Please do not be fooled by all of the recent positive feedback on Tanner Shoes. My bank immediately charge me a foreign credit use fee from China. TANNER SHOES IS A SCAM!!! Up until two days ago there were only two positive reviews and those were before there was even a website or a company. Now there are five more positive reviews in the last two days. The positive reviews are most likely from the same scammers that made the fake website. BEWARE!!!

Misleading Website, Hidden China Shipping, No Cancellations – Avoid This Store

I ordered men’s shoes from tanner-shoes.com, a website that presents itself as a small, U.S.-based business owned by a retiring couple named Henry and Margaret. They advertised a huge 80% off “closing sale.” But after placing my order, I discovered the company is actually based in China, not the U.S. — something that was not disclosed anywhere on the website.

They also fail to mention that products ship from China, which not only takes significantly longer but can also result in unexpected costs. As of the writing of this review (April 14, 2025), the tariff on Chinese imports is 145%, meaning the final cost of my order could be far higher than anticipated.

I requested a cancellation within an hour of placing the order. They refused, claiming their system begins processing immediately. However, three days have passed, and the order still hasn’t shipped — so clearly, they had ample opportunity to cancel it.

I find these practices deceptive and unethical. I will shortly be filing formal complaints with Shopify, the Texas Attorney General’s Office, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). I also plan to dispute the transaction with my credit card provider.

I strongly advise other consumers to avoid this business. The discounts and story they use to attract buyers are misleading, and the overall experience can end up costing you more than expected.

What gave it away as an ai scam for me…

What gave it away as an ai scam for me was the phrase “spacious design with multiple compartments for ultimate organization” under each pair of shoes. Absolutely wild. The shoes workshop looked too good to be true, too. Weird world we’re living in now.

No stars address is on a city street…

No stars address is on a city street smack dab in the street so fraudulent
Ask yourself if you’re going to make custom leather shoes you will need leather so why set up as far away from cattle country
Then someone tells you can get 80% off. Off what.
Hope the people who find any advertising do their due diligence

When the Tanner shoes arrived

When the Tanner shoes arrived, I was immediately impressed with the quality. I must say, when I ordered them I was a little nervous as to would they be worth the money. Yes, they are. I have a wide foot and it is difficult to get them on, but once they are on they are very comfortable. I'm glad I ordered them.
