I registered with this rescue, a year before adopting. A dachsund that I had been searching for, mature in years, eventually came up. I registered my interest and was contacted by the case worker. S... See more

Highly impressed
Sad to see any negative reviews about a charity run by volunteers for a massive over saturated breed. You’ve got to be some sort of person to leave a negative review for that.
Anyway I rescued my Deedee from TRF many years ago who stayed with me until she passed in 2022. I continue to fundraise for this amazing charity. They always go above and beyond
Excellent charity
Excellent charity. We got our beautiful TRF boy last October and haven't looked back. The volunteers at The Red Foundation made it very easy and straight forward for us to adopt our boy. We were put in contact with the previous owners and met up with them a couple of times before we took our boy home to make sure we were the right fit for him, and him for us. Today is our 1st gotcha day for our boy and we haven't looked back since. Even had a wonderful adoption pack with lots of goodies shortly after he arrived.
A great experience
What a great experience we had with this organisation we adopted our little sausage dog from them 18 months ago, excellent guidance and procedure to adopt her, guidance through the first few weeks and since then have contacted for on going guidance with no issues, I hope they continue to support and re-home these little dogs into their new forever homes
I picked up Midge as an emergency …
I picked up Midge as an emergency foster. Midge was surrendered my her owner with bite history. A week later I adopted her. I already had another red dog.
The support I've had has been second to none
The caseworkers do a brilliant job finding doggies there forever home . They give up so much of there time for free
100% recommend The Red Foundation
Just the Best Experience
So I do t normally write reviews on charities or organisations. But I have not adopted one, but two dogs from TRF. Both occasions the process was brilliant. The first dog I adopted was a Dach cross and TRF guided me every step of the way and also arranged meeting the dogs owner on a number of occasions, making sure we were both happy. That’s how Lito the sausage came into my life. Two years ago after loosing one of my old dogs TRF got in touch as they had been inundated with surrendered Dachshunds post lock down. I think at one point they had 7 in one kennel alone. They guided me through adopting again, home visit checked and arranged to meet some of the surrendered doggos. That’s how Sid aka Slinky Dog came into my life. He’s the silliest sausage around. It took a few months for him to settle and TRF checked to make sure everything was ok. They offer to cover the vets bill as well I believe on your first vet visit to make sure there are no underlying conditions with the dog you’re adopting. I always never send them the bill and ask them to keep the money towards emergency bills and rescues. A great charity, that I am more than happy to recommended and will look to in the future as and when I have space for another sausage.
Brilliant charity, working hard to rehome Dachshunds
We had been on the waiting list for a while, until we had the opportunity to adopt a dachhound through The Red Foundation, from a family that were needing to rehome him due to personal reasons. We met this family with the dachhound so he could meet our other dogs. They got on so well that we agreed to take him on and a week later he was with us. We had the best experience with The Red Foundation, who coordinated the whole process. We love our dachhound, who has been with us for 4 years now. We wouldn't be without him.
We also really appreciated how difficult it is for the people who work behind the scenes. My husband joined them for about a year but unfortunately couldn't continue due to working a full time job. We have also fostered through The Red Foundation, including one female dachhound, having puppies, which were all rehoned at 8 weeks thanks to the support of TRF crew. They are amazing and when we are able to we will foster/adopt again through them in the future. Keep up the fantastic work you all do xx
Fantastic charity
Fantastic charity, adopted 2 dogs from them Trevor & Basil, cannot fault the care and kindness they showed the dogs and the tremendous after adoption care to myself, regular check ups, always in hand for any queries, wonderful set up A*
We have recently adopted
We have recently adopted a gorgeous dash cross through The Red Foundation. The assistance and support we're recieving is amazing esp the help from a behaviourist.
This is a great organisation and I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to adopt through The Red Foundation. The volunteers are passionate about these little dogs and their future..
Properly run organisation
Could not have asked for a better organisation. Have always been helpful. Always take time with you and your needs. They don’t lead you on. They are always honest. The aftercare support is always there for you.
Adopting Tilda (Little T) Daisy and Vita
Over the years I have adopted three dachshunds via The Red Foundation and the experience was a brilliant one.All who work there are highly knowledgeable about dachshunds and on the individual dog one is asking about, putting one in touch with the correct people should the dog have specific needs.I would highly recommend The Red Foundation to any one having to surrender a dog or wishing to foster or adopt.
Fabulous and caring charity
Fabulous and caring charity, with the dogs as the number one priority. Our adopted dog ( Archie), had quite severe S/A and with the help and support of The Red Foundation we were able to get through that and he can now be left without destroying doors ( out of his sheer fear). They provide ongoing support for adoptee’s many years after.
Wonderful organisation.
Ernie was found malnourished, abandoned in the woods and taken to a vet.
We offered to foster him, and we were thoroughly vetted. We were introduced to him and he came home. TRF sent us a hamper of starter bits (such a lovely touch) with advice on how to start and we were connected with a case worker and behaviourist.
It is so important to research Dachshunds before you adopt - they can be barky and reactive, so if you aren’t ready to put time in to training them, or you aren’t prepared for these issues to be worse because these are rescue dogs, you shouldn’t be adopting.
TRF covered all of Ernie’s vaccinations and his neutering, and are always on hand to help us. Over time his issues have gotten better but we are prepared to keep working on them because that’s what you have to do. If an organisation finds you aren’t prepared or willing, they will act in the best interest of the dog and that is all any reputable owner wants. We love TRF!
Absolutely fantastic rescue
Absolutely fantastic rescue, paired us with 3 dachshunds, 2 are still with us. They were so very supportive when I lost my husband and could no longer cope with 5 doggos. They arranged the perfect home for our little blind one Dave and he's living his best life. Thanks so much red foundation, keep doing exactly what you already are
Fantastic, caring charity
This is the most fantastic, caring charity I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I fostered, then adopted my dachshund through The Red Foundation and the support they have given me ever since then is absolutely second to none. This is all the more remarkable considering the charity is run by volunteers. They do a difficult job extremely well.
Excellent Charity!
The Red Foundation are a fantastic charity. I recently adopted my little Henry from them and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The whole process was very thorough but extremely smooth. Henry’s case worker, Grace, was absolutely excellent and provided support to me and my partner before, during and after the adoption process. I cannot recommend this charity enough.
Could not Recommend More
From enquiring about our Miniature Dachshund to adopting, The Red Foundation could not have been more helpful. The processes was very quick with thorough checks to ensure we were the correct adopters and made it really easy for the previous owner and dog.
After out gotcha day, TRF were always there to help including having a behaviourist to hand. Our dog is now fully settled in all because of these guys.
Highly recommend these guys!
Best Dachshund Rescue
I adopted Tom 5 years ago he is the perfect fit to our pack. Everyone at The Red Foundation works tirelesly to help dachshunds in need
Great charity
Great intention and communication whenever I have contacted them. Definitely a foundation worth supporting.
If you want to own a dachshund one…
If you want to own a dachshund one piece of advice - DO YOUR HOMEWORK! They are renowned for being reactive to other dogs, bark if the wind blows, separation anxiety (can’t be left alone for more than 4 hours) and stick to you like Velcro. We adopted 2 from TRF, it took 6 months before they were 💯 settled, rightly so, another set of strangers! Patience, love and commitment is all that matters, not just a rescue any pet. The negative reviews here represent 0.01% of successful adoptions. Utter pffft
Horrendous poorly organised
Horrendous poorly organised, falsely advertised organisation that promise life support of the dog, but this simply isnt true.
If you challenge the trustees by asking for an update on the support promised, god help you!
They take the dog away, despite dog specialists advice and threaten you with the police.
Disgraceful, cruel organisation. Avoid and go to a far more reputable dog rescue like The Dogs Trust
