2 X 1TB drives trashed

About 2 months ago one of my 1TB Western Digital hard drives crashed. I'm a hobyist photographer & had thousands of photos on that drive. Fortunately we managed to retrieve the data before the drive finally died. Today the other 1TB drive (also WD) crashed. We just adopted 2 kittens a month ago & since everything was crazy, I haven't had time to back up. So it looks like all my photos of them are gone. This is the last WD product I'll ever buy & if you value your data, you'll stay clear of them as well.

All my WD external hard disk drives broke down.

Twice have I bought a WD external hard disk now, and both times they broke down on me. This is work of a lifetime that we are talking about. Everything I have ever written, all the letters, screenplays, short stories, poetry, all my pictures, are my administration; it just vanished over night. Just like that, out of the blue, both drives quit on me. One back in 2017, one today, in 2023. Never ever ever will I buy another product of WD again as long as I live.

Bad Drive and Even Worse Support

The drive I have from them won't let me format or do anything with it on my computer other than safely remove it from the system. The support was also really really bad, the guy asked for screenshots of the disk management and then asked from options I had after right clicking. He then told me I could fix the issue if I plugged it into another PC like, what makes you think that its suddenly gonna be fixable and what makes you think I just have another damn PC lying around.

Next stop, Seagate..... or anyone else but WD

If I could give 0 stars I would. I purchased a Western Digital Duo 3.5TB RAID mirrored drive system from Best Buy. I've had it less than 2 years and it is now considered "Legacy" so WD quit supporting the software. While they previously informed me of their plans, their solution on how to continue using my product is full of flaws and lacks proper information for setting up for access on a local computer. It took me 6-hours of trial and error, to finally discover that my "MyCloud" online account access password, and my local drive access password could not be the same. I simply decided to try changing the local access password to see if that finally gave me access. People who write instructions should try their instructions prior to publishing them. WD never did help me with the solution.

DO NOT BUY WD

After several "attacks" during the past year(s), I'm fed up with the fact that they still have issues. SanDisc USB have always worked fine, but their external storage products has been a total waste of money. The first issue a couple of years ago was covered by an "offer" to trade in for a new unit at a discounted price. Wow, how generous to let the consumers "fix" their problems. I didn't buy any unit, but removed all existing.
Since I still needed an external unit, though, I made the misstake to buy a My Cloud. I have so far never got it to work correctly (more than a year ago). If I've been able to initiate user, etc., then the password was continously "wrong", even when I'm 100% sure I typed it right. Now the disk is "off-line", unable to re-boot and their spendid app, show a total EMPTY page after signing in.
I would suggest that their executives quit, before someone take action. This is a total disgrace and you can't trust the company, nor that your files will remain intact.
After wasting approximately 2000$ I consider making a youtube video burning the units. This might give me some money back from viewers and an alternative to other "fireplace" videos you can enjoy in the cold period.
I ticked the "inform WD" box, knowing that they will not pay attention to it, just as all of you out there.

Looking for a stable, reliable solution....

The only thing missing from Western Digital is the mask when they Rob you! They are selling under false pretensions. I have now been scammed twice with promises of a cloud based file sharing system and in both cases now been told I can't share files on the cloud.Save your money do not buy from these people the support is non existent

never buy from WD again. 3yr warranty drives really have less than 1 yr from date of manufacturer.

I purchased drives less than 3 years ago and went to complete an RMA but found the drives warranty expired before i even purchased date. both drives failled within hours of each other and have the same manufacture date so i assume the drives were poorly manufactured.

After contacting WD support i was informed the drives were under warranty so again to i go to completed the RMA but the warranty expiry had not been updated. I contact WD once again. After numerous attempts at contacting them and not getting a response from Tom P. I had to escalate the case to get a response and in the end it was nearly 2 weeks sine initial contact that i got a response saying drives are not in warranty and that warranty expired 6 months before i purchase and less than a year after manufacture. This total contradicted what i was told earlier and what there own site says about these drives having a 3 year warranty.

I have 20+ western digital drives and they are the only drives i purchase personally or for the company i work for. I will never buy WD again and will make sure the company i work for does not either.

Avoid WD at all cost!

Terrible company, terrible support, terrible products.
I have issue, HDD broke right after the warranty they basically said "turn it off and on again" if doesn't work buy new one that support is pointless and they need to be fired ASAP!
Their products don't live long after the warranty period!
Wester Digital you are a SCAM!!

DO NOT BUY FROM RETAILERS NOW

I would like to make this clear if anyone reads this Do not buy from amazon or curry or any other retailer trying to sell these devices as they quickly shifting buck , brushing under carpet these products and they are still currently selling them new and under fiancé. WD duo And home DUO 2 Etc 8 Tb cloud storage no longer supported what that means is you have no cloud functionality for storing your product via software that was previously download or currently installed. no point making a new account via my cloud either as the support has gone. Plus like I said do not buy these from curry or amazon they have a no return policy and the 2 year warranty they claim guarantee is no longer fit for purpose as advertised also doesn't Automatic backup like I also advertised on top of all this Max capacity: 8 TB is also kind a lie as you don't get full 8TB you looking at 7.60 tb after formatting or far less if you set to raid 1. WB No longer support the devices and software and the warranty is no more than just bog paper from day one. For people like myself I think WD should treat there customer fairly and offer an alternative device that is fully supported with the intended 2 year guarantee, this will never happen again and I won't be buying anything from WD every again. Only support they can give is trying to isolate the device so you can use as a local network storage which is defaulting what people brought this device for in the first place, Mac wise it a case of wiping the eniler hods again and loosing all data.

Bought a WD 12TB My Cloud EX2 Ultra…

Bought a WD 12TB My Cloud EX2 Ultra Network via Amazon - one of the mirror drives went bad - Amazon offered to replace the whole thing but I would loose all my data - WD would change just the one drive so I could restore my data. Contacted WD and first impressions were good but alarm bells should have been ringing when it was said it would have to be referred to another department and they would get back to me. Weeks went by and they never contacted me and each time I contacted them I got a response from a different person - in the end they stopped responding altogether.
Their commercial quality drive shouldn’t have failed - WD shouldn’t have hesitated to replace it - their customer service department should have been honourable and provided a service.
I checked with Trust Pilot and I see they have no reputation to protect - what a terrible company - avoid like the plague.

The company is the worst.

I ordered a WD Black External game drive. It was rattling inside when I opened it, so I sent it back for a refund. They now claim I sent in an internal surveillance drive. I sent this in for a refund on Feb 14, 2023. Nothing about that until now when I ask for my refund. Avoid this company at all costs.

Sad way to treat your customers. No longer supporting the Ibi personal drive.

No longer supporting the Ibi software or the app. I can't believe a company will create a product, promote it and then just abandon it. What a disrespect to those people that bought your product, like myself. Awful way to treat your customers. Don't expect me to buy anything from your company ever. You'll need to have your character and values evaluated in your company. Good riddance.
