Widerness Scotland is a wonderful tour…
Widerness Scotland is a wonderful tour arranging oranization. They took care of everything - hiking tours, hotels, packing lists, and most of the meals. Our guide Petra was amazing. She was knowlegeable and we always felt safe in her hands.
Wilderness Scotland - As Advertised!
Bikes were as expected. The guides were great and able to reroute us when we were unable to get on the ferry due to ferry not running to get to Islay. The hotels were all quaint & we had delicious meals there as well. The views are spectacular of course!
Our Shetland and Orkney Islands hiking…
Our Shetland and Orkney Islands hiking trip was fantastic. The views from the cliffs were spectacular and the hikes were fun. Our guide, Martin, was outstanding. He had lots of knowledge of the area and loved sharing the information with us. He always showed us a map and traced out our hikes.
Scottish Adventure of a Lifetime.
I asked for the trip of a lifetime and Wilderness Scotland delivered - above and beyond. I will never forget our Scottish adventure.
Our Wilderness Scotland trip planner listened to my desires for this trip and delivered everything I asked for and more. She planned a trip where we learned the history of Scotland, complete with battlefields and castles; we experienced the beauty of the Scottish seas & highlands complete with hikes and bike rides. We saw Harry Potter & Outlander filming sites. We ate delicious Scottish fare at historic locations, and we learned about the Scottish whisky and sheep industries. The most memorable part of this trip came on the last day with our guide. Our planner went above and beyond by locating two of my ancestors' burial plots and even had her parents confirm these locations. Our guide drove miles in the Scottish countryside to surprise us with stops at not one, but two cemeteries. He came prepared with flowers, a beautiful quaich and whiskey to toast our family heritage at each stop. On our last day in Edinburgh, our planner even arranged for us to meet with a genealogist.
Our tour guide for the week was perfect for us. He met us in Inverness then for the next week he drove us through Isle of Skye, on to Glencoe and the Highlands, then ending our journey in Edinburgh. He was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He explained everything about Scottish culture and history. He was patient with me as I took hundreds of pictures, and he presented great challenges for our 29-year-old son. He was a good conversationalist and made our 1-week journey with him quite enjoyable.

A wonderful and authentic travel experience
On our trip to the Northern Isles, we were blessed with an absolutely outstanding guide, Martin, and he made sure that we were able to optimally use our time. We took 10 magnificent hikes in 9 days, all of which we beautiful and invigorating in their own way. Wilderness Scotland set up the itinerary beautifully, allowing us to experience the very best of our destination. Additionally, WS arranged accommodations that exceeded our expectations and greatly enhanced our journey. While many travel activities have become common and mundane, Wilderness Scotland gave us an exhilarating travel experience that felt like something very special and authentic.

Cairngorms National Park & Royal Deeside
The 3 things that stood out most about the Cairngorms National Park & Royal Deeside Hike and why it justifies a 5 star rating are:
The excellent guide
The beautiful, varied and well thought out hikes
The hight quality of the accommodation & food
These all combined, along with my fellow hikers, to make this a most enjoyable and memorable week
The Wilds of Assynt - great trip
My Wilderness Scotland trip to the Highlands around Ullapool was wonderful. Our guide Pete was knowledgeable and personable. Some of the hikes were definitely challenging but we felt great accomplishment getting to the top and I felt like I was in good hands with our excellent guide. Be prepared for a good deal of mud and insects and changeable weather. The views were beautiful. The food - lots of seafood in this waterfront town - was excellent. The lodging was good with a delicious breakfast and a view from our window of the water. Often dolphins were leaping out of the water.
Fabulous itinerary
Fabulous itinerary. Superb guide. Wonderful food and accommodation. Perfection! Even the weather as brilliant!
Well planned out self guided trip
Great experience, all accommodations, written guides were excellent. They even reached out to help if needed when a large storm was entering the area.
Wonderful Isle of Muck Photography
I recently was on a photo tour through Wilderness Scotland in and around The Isle of Muck. It was a first class tour all the way, from start to finish! Working with the company before the trip was easy, as they had a phone number that I could call here in the states. They were very responsive to quest via email as well.
The tour itself was fabulous, complete with great lodging and food, as well as a fabulous teacher in Colin Prior. And of course, the location was unbeatable, with beautiful photography subjects on several islands which we went to.
Exceptional hosts make all the difference.
The people. Mungo and Stella, masters of the Eda Frandsen, were not just exceptionally skilled in all aspects of chartering their beautiful boat, even more, they were simply delightful people to spend six days with - - gracious, kind, funny hosts. Alan Smith, our experienced and knowledgeable guide on land, was also a real pleasure to get to know. I was especially grateful for his subtle way of watching out for his less-skillful trekkers (me!) without making me feel out-of-place.
